Spiritual Growth: Why Does True Love Refuse to Bow to Cultural Convenience?

True Christian love doesn't bow down to cultural convenience or legal accessibility, it stands firm in the sanctity of life. Following the Supreme Court's decision to keep abortion pills available nationwide via mail and telehealth, we are exploring what it means to be a "Refining Fire" in a world that often prioritizes ease over the eternal value of the unborn. While the legal system may fluctuate, the Word of God remains an unshakeable foundation for those who believe that every life is fearfully and wonderfully made.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that faith is more than just a Sunday activity; it is a commitment to the truth of Jesus Christ, even when that truth is unpopular. When society makes the destruction of life "accessible" and "convenient," the follower of Christ is called to a different path, one of protection, compassion, and unwavering conviction. We are called to be a light that exposes the darkness and a refining fire that purifies our own hearts of the world’s apathy.

Bible Verses on the Sanctity of Life

  • Psalm 139:13-16: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

  • Proverbs 31:8: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute."

  • Jeremiah 1:5: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

  • Proverbs 24:11-12: "Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?"

  • Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"

Understanding the Refining Fire: Faith Over Convenience

In May 2026, the legal landscape surrounding abortion underwent another significant chapter. The Supreme Court's decision to maintain broad access to mifepristone, allowing it to be prescribed via telehealth and sent through the mail, has brought the issue of "convenience" to the forefront of our national conversation. For many, this is seen as a victory for autonomy. But for the believer, it is a call to deeper intercession and a reminder that what is legal is not always what is holy.

The "Refining Fire" of the Holy Spirit does not leave us as we are. It burns away the parts of us that want to follow the path of least resistance. It challenges us to look at the "least of these", the unborn, with the eyes of Jesus. When the world says, "This is easier," the Spirit says, "This is sacred."

1. Life is a Divine Gift, Not a Social Choice

The first takeaway in our journey through this refining fire is the recognition that life begins with God. We do not "create" life; we participate in the life that God breathes into existence. In our Online Christian Bible Study, we often discuss how the sovereignty of God extends to the very womb. If God is the one who knits us together, then we do not have the authority to unravel what He has made for the sake of convenience.

2. Love Protects the Vulnerable

True love is not just a feeling; it is a protective action. In a culture that prioritizes "telehealth" for the sake of speed, we must prioritize the "soul-health" of our nation. Protecting the vulnerable is a hallmark of the Assemblies of God and the broader evangelical faith. This means speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Whether you are in Memphis, across the United States, or watching from around the globe, your voice matters in the defense of life.

3. Truth Over Convenience

We live in an "on-demand" society. We want our food, our entertainment, and even our healthcare delivered to our door with the click of a button. But the weightiest decisions of life, those concerning life and death, should never be relegated to the realm of convenience. The refining fire of God’s truth teaches us that the hardest paths often lead to the most beautiful destinations. Choosing life is often the harder path, requiring more support, more sacrifice, and more community. That is why we exist as a virtual church community, to provide that support when the world offers only a pill.

4. Faith in the Refining Fire

The term "refining fire" comes from the process of purifying gold. The heat is intense, but the result is something pure and valuable. When we stand for the sanctity of life in a culture that mocks that stance, we are in the fire. But this is where our faith becomes unshakeable. We are not defined by the laws of the land, but by the Law of Love. This love is compassionate toward those who are hurting, yet uncompromising in its pursuit of what is right.

Standing for Truth

5. Support in Virtual Community

Many people feel isolated when they hold pro-life convictions in a digital age that seems to trend in the opposite direction. You may feel like you are the only one in your workplace, your school, or even your family who believes that life is sacred from conception. Boundless Online Church is designed for people exactly like you. We are a bridge from isolation to connection. Our online church services in Memphis, TN reach people who are homebound, traveling, or simply seeking a safe place to grow in their faith without judgment.

Why This Matters Now

The May 2026 SCOTUS decision is a snapshot of a much larger spiritual battle. It is a battle for the heart of our culture. As medication abortions via telehealth become the most common form of abortion in America, the "invisibility" of the act grows. When things are invisible, it is easy to become indifferent.

But God sees. He sees the "unformed body" mentioned in Psalm 139. He sees the woman who feels she has no other choice because she lacks a support system. He sees the father who is absent or the family that is pressured. Our response as a church is not just to condemn, but to provide a "Boundless" alternative, one that offers mentoring, prayer support, and a community that walks alongside those in need.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. This mission is critical because the digital world is where these life-and-death conversations are happening. If the abortion pill is being marketed through a screen, then the Gospel of Life must be preached through that same screen with even more power and clarity.

A Prayer for Life and Courage

Lord Jesus, we thank You for the gift of life. We thank You that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by Your hand. Today, we pray for our nation and its leaders. We pray for the Supreme Court and for every person involved in the legal and medical systems. We ask that Your refining fire would sweep through our hearts, purifying us of apathy and filling us with a courageous love for the vulnerable.

We pray for the women today who are feeling alone and considering an abortion. We ask that You would place someone in their path to offer hope and help. Let them find their way to a community that will love them and their child. Strengthen us, Your Church, to be a place of refuge and a voice for the voiceless. May we never bow to convenience, but always stand for the truth of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
