The Boundless Daily: Day 2 , The One True God

Welcome back to The Boundless Daily.

If you're reading this on a night shift break, between caregiving tasks, or in a quiet moment wherever you are in the world, you're in the right place.

Today we're tackling something big: who God actually is.

Not what we think He might be. Not what culture says. Not what feels right.

Who He really is, according to His own word.

One God. That's It.

Let's start simple.

There is one true God.

Not many gods. Not a pantheon. Not a cosmic force you can customize to fit your preferences.

One.

The Bible is crystal clear about this from the very beginning. Deuteronomy 6:4 says, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one."

This was revolutionary in ancient times.

Everyone around Israel worshiped multiple gods, gods of weather, war, fertility, the sea. Different gods for different problems.

But the God of the Bible said, "I'm it. There's no one else."

Isaiah 45:5 puts it bluntly: "I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God."

This matters because if God is one, He's consistent. Trustworthy. Not competing with other powers or changing His character based on the situation.

You can know Him. You can count on Him.

He's the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The Mystery: One God, Three Persons

Here's where it gets beautifully complex.

The one true God exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This is called the Trinity.

Not three gods. One God in three distinct, co-equal, co-eternal Persons.

Three streams of light merging into one representing the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

If your brain just cramped up a little, that's okay. The Trinity is a mystery we can explore but never fully contain.

Think of it this way: God is one in essence, His nature, character, and being. But He exists in three Persons who relate to one another and to us in distinct ways.

  • God the Father is the source, the creator, the planner.

  • God the Son (Jesus) is the Word made flesh, the Redeemer, the one who walked among us.

  • God the Holy Spirit is the presence of God with us now, the comforter, the empowerer.

All three are fully God. All three have always existed. All three are involved in your story.

Why the Trinity Matters to You

You might be thinking, "Okay, theology class is great, but what does this mean for me at 2 a.m. in a hospital room or alone in my apartment?"

Everything.

Because the Trinity tells us God is relational by nature.

He's not a lonely, distant force. He's a community of love: Father, Son, and Spirit: in perfect relationship.

And He created you for relationship too.

When you feel isolated, remember: you were made in the image of a relational God. Connection isn't optional for you. It's wired into your design.

When you feel unseen, remember: Jesus knows what it's like to be human. He walked dusty roads, felt tired, cried at funerals, and faced rejection. God the Son gets it.

When you feel weak, remember: the Holy Spirit lives in you if you've trusted Christ. You're never truly alone. His power is available in your exhaustion, confusion, and fear.

The Trinity isn't an abstract doctrine. It's the foundation of why you matter, why you're loved, and why you're never abandoned.

God Reveals Himself

Throughout Scripture, God progressively reveals who He is.

In the Old Testament, we see glimpses. The Spirit of God moving over the waters in Genesis 1. The "Angel of the LORD" appearing to people in ways that suggest deity. Hints of plurality in "Let us make mankind in our image" (Genesis 1:26).

Then Jesus shows up.

And everything becomes clearer.

At His baptism, all three Persons of the Trinity appear: Jesus in the water, the Spirit descending like a dove, and the Father speaking from heaven (Matthew 3:16-17).

Jesus prays to the Father. He promises to send the Spirit. He claims to be one with the Father (John 10:30).

After His resurrection, Jesus commissions His followers to baptize "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).

Not "names" (plural). "Name" (singular). One God. Three Persons.

This is who we worship. This is who pursues us. This is who saves us.

He's Not What We Invent

Here's something we need to be honest about:

The human heart loves to create gods.

We invent versions of God that suit us. A cosmic therapist. A judgmental bully. A distant watchmaker. A genie who grants wishes.

But the one true God isn't who we make Him to be. He's who He is.

And He's told us who that is.

That's why Scripture matters. That's why doctrine matters. Not to be stuffy or boring, but to protect us from wandering after false versions of God that can't save, can't satisfy, and can't change our lives.

The God of the Bible: Father, Son, and Spirit: is holy and loving. Just and merciful. Powerful and gentle. Transcendent and near.

He's bigger than our boxes. And He's better than our best ideas.

Living in Light of the One True God

So what do we do with this?

We worship Him as He is.

Not as we wish He were. Not as culture redefines Him. But as He's revealed Himself.

We trust Him completely.

Because there's only one God, we don't need backup plans. We don't hedge our bets with other belief systems. We stake everything on Him.

We relate to Him fully.

We pray to the Father through the Son in the power of the Spirit. We experience all three Persons in our daily walk.

And we remember: this God wants relationship with you.

He's not distant. He's not disinterested.

He's close. Present. Active.

Whether you're clocking into a night shift, sitting beside a hospital bed, or halfway around the world reading this on your phone: He sees you. He knows your name. He's with you.
