The Boundless Daily: Day 6

Welcome to Day 6.

If you're reading this during a break at work, between caring for someone you love, or in a quiet moment before the world wakes up, you're exactly where you need to be.

Today we're talking about rest.

Not the kind you earn.

The kind that's already yours.

The Rhythm You Were Made For

In Genesis, God creates the world in six days.

Then He rests.

Not because He's tired.

God doesn't get tired.

He rests because rest is part of the design.

It's woven into the fabric of how things are supposed to work.

"By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done." (Genesis 2:2-3, NIV)

Notice what happens.

God doesn't just rest.

He blesses the day.

He makes it holy.

Rest isn't laziness.

It's worship.

When Rest Feels Impossible

Maybe you're thinking, "That's great for God, but I don't have time to rest."

You work nights.

You care for aging parents.

You're balancing three jobs and still barely making it.

Rest feels like a luxury you can't afford.

Here's the truth: rest isn't about having time.

It's about trusting God with your time.

Jesus said it this way: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:28-29, NIV)

He's not talking about a vacation.

He's talking about a different way to carry your life.

A lighter yoke.

A gentler rhythm.

Rest Is an Act of Faith

When you rest, you're saying something powerful.

You're saying, "God, You can handle this while I step back."

You're declaring that the world doesn't depend on you holding it together 24/7.

You're trusting that God is still working even when you're not.

This is especially important if you're a caregiver, a shift worker, or someone whose schedule doesn't follow traditional patterns.

Your rest might not look like everyone else's.

That's okay.

God meets you where you are.

What Rest Actually Looks Like

Rest doesn't always mean sleep.

Sometimes rest is:

Silence.

Turning off the noise for five minutes.

Just breathing.

Just being.

Connection.

Texting a friend who makes you laugh.

Calling someone who knows your story.

Worship.

Listening to a song that reminds you who God is.

Praying a simple prayer: "Jesus, I need You."

Boundaries.

Saying no to one more thing so you can say yes to what matters most.

Rest is any moment when you stop striving and start receiving.

The Permission You've Been Waiting For

Here it is.

You have permission to rest.

Not because you've earned it.

Not because your to-do list is done.

(It never will be.)

You have permission to rest because God built rest into the rhythm of life.

You have permission to rest because Jesus offers it freely.

You have permission to rest because you are a human being, not a human doing.

If you've been running on empty, hoping you'll get a break "someday": this is your sign.

Today is the day.

Even if it's just for ten minutes.

Even if it's just one deep breath.

Start there.

Rest and the Kingdom

Here's something beautiful.

When you rest in God, you become more effective: not less.

You make better decisions.

You love people better.

You see opportunities you would have missed in the blur of busyness.

Rest isn't the opposite of productivity.

It's the foundation for sustainable, Spirit-empowered living.

The early church understood this.

They didn't work themselves into the ground.

They gathered regularly.

They prayed together.

They shared meals.

They rested in community.

And the Gospel spread like wildfire.

A Simple Practice for Today

Here's something you can try right now.

Pause.

Take three deep breaths.

With each breath, say this:

Breath in: "Jesus, I receive Your rest."

Breath out: "I release what I cannot control."

Do it again.

And again.

That's it.

No complicated formula.

No perfect environment required.

Just you and Jesus and the gift of this moment.

For Those Who Feel Guilty

If you struggle with guilt when you rest, you're not alone.

Many of us were taught that rest is selfish.

That we have to earn our worth through constant productivity.

That stopping means falling behind.

But that's not what Scripture teaches.

Jesus rested.

He withdrew to quiet places.

He sent the disciples away to rest when they were overwhelmed.

He knows you need it.

He's not disappointed when you rest.

He's pleased.

Moving Forward

As you go through the rest of today, carry this with you:

Rest is not a reward.

It's a rhythm.

It's not something you earn.

It's something you receive.

And it's available to you right now: no matter where you are, what time zone you're in, or what your schedule looks like.

God is inviting you into a lighter way of living.

A way where you work from rest, not toward it.

Where you trust Him to be God while you simply be His beloved child.

What's Next
