We've all been there.
The doctor's appointment that changes everything. The diagnosis you didn't see coming. The chronic pain that won't quit. The health crisis that turns your world upside down.
And in those moments, we ask: Does God still heal?
The answer is yes.
Today we're diving into one of the Assemblies of God's 16 Fundamental Truths: Divine Healing. It's not just ancient history or theological theory. It's a present reality available to every believer.
What Is Divine Healing?
Divine healing is God's supernatural power restoring physical, emotional, and mental health.
It's not about positive thinking or mind-over-matter.
It's about the same power that raised Jesus from the dead working in your body right now.
The Bible is clear: healing is part of what Jesus purchased for us on the cross. Isaiah 53:5 says, "By his wounds we are healed." That's not just spiritual healing. It includes physical restoration too.

The Biblical Foundation
Let's look at what Scripture actually says about healing.
Exodus 15:26 - God reveals Himself as "the LORD who heals you." That's one of His names. Jehovah-Rapha. The God who heals.
Psalm 103:2-3 - "Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases."
Notice the connection. Forgiveness and healing. Both are benefits of belonging to God.
James 5:14-15 - "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well."
This isn't a suggestion. It's instruction.
When you're sick, you're supposed to bring it to the church community. You're supposed to ask for prayer. You're supposed to believe God can heal.
Jesus: The Great Physician
If you want to understand God's heart for healing, look at Jesus.
He didn't heal occasionally. He healed constantly.
Matthew 4:23 says Jesus went throughout Galilee "healing every disease and sickness among the people."
Every disease. Every sickness.

He healed the blind, the deaf, the paralyzed, the demon-possessed. He healed people with leprosy, bleeding disorders, fevers, and disabilities.
And here's what matters most: He did it with compassion.
When a man with leprosy begged Jesus for healing, Jesus reached out and touched him. In that culture, touching a leper was unthinkable. But Jesus did it anyway.
Why?
Because God's heart is moved by our suffering.
He doesn't stand at a distance. He comes close. He touches. He heals.
The Hard Question: What About Unanswered Prayer?
Let's be honest.
Not everyone who prays for healing gets healed.
You might be reading this right now while dealing with a condition that hasn't improved despite countless prayers.
Does that mean God doesn't care? Does it mean you don't have enough faith?
No.
Here's what we know:
We live in a broken world. Sin damaged everything: including our bodies. Until Jesus returns and makes all things new, we'll deal with the effects of living in a fallen creation.
God is sovereign. His ways are higher than ours. Sometimes He heals instantly. Sometimes He heals gradually. Sometimes He heals through medicine and doctors. And sometimes He heals completely when we get to heaven.
All of those outcomes still involve God's goodness and love.
Paul had a "thorn in the flesh" that God didn't remove, even though Paul asked three times (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). God's answer was, "My grace is sufficient for you."
That doesn't mean God doesn't heal. It means God's plan is bigger than we can see in the moment.
Your faith isn't measured by your healing.
Your faith is measured by your trust in God's character: whether He heals you today or not.
How to Approach God for Healing
So how do we pray for healing?
1. Come with confidence.
Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
You don't have to beg. You don't have to earn it. You're coming to a loving Father who wants to help.
2. Pray according to God's will.
We know God desires healing because Jesus healed everyone who came to Him. So we can pray boldly, asking God to heal according to His power and His promises.
3. Ask others to pray with you.
James 5:16 says, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
Don't carry the burden alone. Invite trusted believers to stand with you in prayer. There's power in agreement.
4. Thank God in advance.
Philippians 4:6 tells us to present our requests to God "with thanksgiving."
Before you see the answer, thank God for hearing you. Thank Him for His love. Thank Him for His power.
That's faith in action.

Healing Is Part of the Gospel
Here's what you need to remember today:
Healing isn't a side benefit. It's central to who God is and what Jesus accomplished.
When Jesus sent out His disciples, He gave them authority to heal the sick (Matthew 10:1). That authority is still active in the church today.
The same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you if you're a believer (Romans 8:11). That means resurrection power is available to you right now.
Does that guarantee you'll never be sick? No.
Does it mean God has abandoned you if you're struggling with illness? Absolutely not.
It means you serve a God who sees you, loves you, and has the power to change your situation.
So bring your pain to Him.
Bring your diagnosis to Him.
Bring your fear to Him.
He is the God who heals. And His power is still at work today.
Next Steps
If you're facing a health challenge right now, here's what you can do:
Pray. Ask God specifically to heal you. Be honest about your fear and your faith.
Reach out. Ask trusted believers to pray with you. Don't face this alone.
Trust. Whether you see immediate healing or not, trust God's goodness and His plan.
And if you'd like someone to pray with you right now, we're here.
