The Deity of Christ: Why it Matters

Who do you think Jesus is?
If you ask ten people on the street, you might get ten different answers.
Some say He was a great moral teacher. Others call Him a social revolutionary. Some see Him as a prophet or a misunderstood martyr.
But for those of us at Boundless Online Church, the answer is deeper. It is more radical. It changes everything.
We believe Jesus is God.
This isn't just a "churchy" detail. It isn't a minor point of history. The deity of Christ is the foundation of our hope.

More Than a Good Man
If Jesus was only a "good man," He couldn't save us.
A good man can give you advice. A good man can set a nice example. But a good man cannot bridge the gap between a holy God and a broken world.
The Bible tells us that Jesus was fully human and fully divine. He felt hunger. He felt pain. He felt the weight of loss.
Yet, He also commanded the wind and the waves. He healed the sick with a word. He forgave sins: something only God has the right to do.
If He isn't God, His claims are either lies or the words of someone who lost their mind. But if He is God, His words have absolute authority over our lives.
Why the Virgin Birth Matters
You might wonder why we talk about the virgin birth. It sounds like a strange detail from a Christmas story.
But it matters because it explains how Jesus entered our world. He wasn't just another person born into the human cycle of brokenness. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
This allowed Him to be the "Second Adam." He was fully human, so He could represent us. He was fully God, so He was without sin.
This unique identity is what made Him the perfect sacrifice.

The Power of the Miracles
Jesus didn't perform miracles to put on a show. He performed them to prove who He was.
When He turned water into wine, He showed authority over nature. When He multiplied bread, He showed He is the Provider. When He raised Lazarus from the dead, He showed authority over life and death itself.
Every miracle was a signpost pointing to the truth: God is here.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online by looking at these signs. They aren't just stories from 2,000 years ago. They are proof that the Creator cares about the creation.
The Problem of Sin
Why did God have to become a man? It comes down to a debt we couldn't pay.
Sin isn't just "making mistakes." It is a separation from the source of life. Because God is perfectly just, sin has a price.
If Jesus were only a man, His death would have only counted for Himself. But because He is the eternal God, His sacrifice has infinite value.
His death on the cross was a substitution. He took what we deserved so we could have what He deserves. Only God could carry the weight of the world's sin and not be crushed by it.

The Resurrection: The Final Proof
The deity of Christ isn't just about how He lived or how He died. It is about the fact that He is alive right now.
The resurrection is the ultimate "mic drop" of history. Anyone can claim to be God. Anyone can start a religion. But only one person walked out of a guarded tomb three days after being executed.
Because Jesus is God, death had no claim on Him. He broke the power of the grave. When He rose, He proved that everything He said was true.
If you are looking for a reason to trust Him, look at the empty tomb. It is the anchor for our faith and discipleship.
Why This Matters for You Today
This might feel like heavy theology. You might be wondering how this affects your Monday morning.
It matters because it means God is not distant. He isn't a cold force in the universe. He isn't a grumpy judge waiting for you to fail.
Because Jesus is God, we know what God is like. He is kind. He is patient. He is full of grace.
When you look at Jesus, you see the heart of the Father. You see a God who would rather die for you than live without you.
It also means that when you pray, you are talking to someone who understands. He knows what it feels like to be tired. He knows what it feels like to be lonely. He is the God who "moved into the neighborhood."

A Choice to Make
The deity of Jesus isn't an opinion. It’s a reality that demands a response.
Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" That is the most important question you will ever answer.
If He is just a man, you can ignore Him. If He is just a teacher, you can take His advice or leave it. But if He is God, then He is Lord.
He is the one who gives our lives purpose. He is the one who offers us a fresh start. He is the one who holds the keys to eternity.
Growing in Faith
Understanding who Jesus is changes how we read the Bible. It changes how we treat our neighbors. It changes how we view our future.
We invite you to explore this truth more deeply. Check out our online programs or join a Bible study. There is so much more to discover about the character of Christ.
You don't have to have it all figured out today. You just have to be willing to look at the evidence.
Jesus is standing at the door. He is inviting you into a relationship with the God who made you. The God who loves you. The God who became one of us so we could be with Him forever.
