Where do you meet with God?

Sacred Ground in Unexpected Places

Moses encountered God at a burning bush in the middle of nowhere.

God told him: "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground" (Exodus 3:5).

Not a temple. Not a church building.

Just ordinary dirt that became sacred because God showed up.

The same thing happens today: just with WiFi.

Your everyday spaces can become sanctuaries when you invite God's presence through digital connection.

Think about it.

You're standing in your kitchen, phone propped against the coffee maker, watching a livestream worship service while you make breakfast.

Suddenly, that narrow galley kitchen becomes a cathedral.

You're in your car, stuck in traffic, listening to a sermon podcast.

That Honda Civic becomes your personal prayer room.

You're sitting in a hospital room at 2 a.m., exhausted and worried, scrolling through prayer requests on your phone.

That uncomfortable chair becomes a place of intercession.

The Kitchen Counter Cathedral

Morning routines are powerful.

Before the chaos starts. Before the emails flood in. Before the demands pile up.

Many people find their most authentic worship moments happen in the kitchen.

Phone on the counter. Coffee brewing. Worship music playing softly.

It's not fancy.

It's real.

One mom told us she discovered this accidentally during the pandemic. She couldn't make it to physical church services, so she started streaming Sunday Live Worship while making pancakes.

Her kids would wander in. They'd all sing along while flipping breakfast.

That kitchen became their sanctuary.

It still is.

Jesus said, "Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" (Matthew 18:20).

He didn't specify the venue.

He promised His presence.

That's what makes a space sacred: not the architecture, but the presence of God.

The Commute Chapel

Your car might be the only place you're truly alone all day.

No coworkers. No family members. No interruptions.

Just you and the road.

Thousands of people have transformed their commutes into spiritual practices.

Sermon podcasts during the morning drive.

Worship playlists on the way home.

Prayer time at red lights.

One truck driver shared how he streams church services during long hauls. His cab becomes his sanctuary miles from anywhere. He's never alone because his faith community travels with him digitally.

Another woman uses her 45-minute commute to pray through the Prayer Wall requests she sees online.

She literally carries people's burdens while carrying herself to work.

"In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:6).

Even the paths paved with asphalt and traffic lights.

Hospital Rooms and Holy Moments

Some of the most powerful worship happens in the hardest places.

Hospital rooms. Nursing homes. Hospice centers.

These aren't typically considered sanctuaries.

But they become sacred when people connect to their faith community digitally.

A nurse told us about a patient who streamed worship music during chemotherapy treatments. Other patients in the infusion center started asking about it. Eventually, several patients were joining in worship together: each on their own devices, but united in spirit.

The infusion center became a sanctuary.

Another family kept a tablet propped up in their mother's hospice room, playing continuous worship and Scripture readings. They said it transformed the atmosphere. Fear lifted. Peace settled in.

That hospital room became holy ground.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

He shows up in ICUs and waiting rooms.

Sometimes the technology itself becomes an instrument of ministry: not a distraction from God, but a connection point to Him.

Breaking Down the Walls

Traditional church buildings serve important purposes.

Community. Gathering. Shared experience.

But they also create limitations.

Geography. Schedule. Accessibility.

What about the single parent working night shifts who can't make Sunday morning services?

What about the person with severe anxiety who finds crowds overwhelming?

What about the caregiver who can't leave their loved one's bedside?

What about people in countries where gathering for church is illegal?

Digital connection removes those walls.

It doesn't replace physical community: it extends it.

It makes faith accessible to people who otherwise might be isolated from spiritual nourishment.

Paul wrote letters to churches he couldn't visit in person. He used the technology of his day: written correspondence: to maintain spiritual connection across distance.

We do the same thing today with different tools.

The heart remains identical.

Stay connected. Keep growing. Never worship alone.

Creating Your Own Digital Sanctuary

You don't need special equipment or technical skills.

You need intention.

Here's how to transform your everyday spaces into sacred ground:

Choose a consistent space. It might be your kitchen, your car, your bedroom, your backyard. Pick somewhere you can regularly connect with God.

Set a realistic rhythm. Five minutes is better than zero minutes. Start small. Be consistent.

Use digital tools intentionally. Stream worship services. Listen to sermons. Read Bible apps. Join online prayer communities. Let technology serve your spiritual growth.

Eliminate the guilt. Meeting with God in your pajamas at your kitchen counter is legitimate worship. You're not "less than" because you're not in a building.

Invite others in. Share what you're learning. Connect with your digital faith community. You're not isolated: you're part of something global.

The early church met in homes. In caves. In secret locations.

They didn't have buildings for 300 years.

They had presence. They had community. They had the Holy Spirit.

That's what makes a sanctuary: not the location, but the Lord.

The Global Gathering

Here's something beautiful about digital sanctuaries.

When you worship in your kitchen in Memphis at 6 a.m., someone in Australia is worshiping in their kitchen at 9 p.m.

When you pray in your car in Texas, someone is praying on a bus in Kenya.

When you stream a service from a hospital room, someone is watching from a refugee camp.

You're not alone.

You're part of a global body of believers gathering in ten thousand different sanctuaries: all connected by the same Spirit.

Jesus promised, "I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20).

He didn't say, "I'll meet you at the building."

He said always.

That means kitchens count.

Cars qualify.

Hospital rooms are included.

Wherever you are, He is.

And where He is, that ground becomes holy.
