The Evidence of the Spirit: Living Empowered

Have you ever felt like you were trying to live the Christian life on a low battery?
You have the desire. You have the heart. But sometimes, the strength just isn't there.
We’ve all been there. Trying to be kind, trying to be bold, and trying to stay faithful through our own willpower.
But Jesus didn't want us to live that way.
Before He left this earth, He made a specific promise. He told His followers to wait for a gift. Not a gift of knowledge or a gift of rules, but a gift of power.
That gift is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
In the Assemblies of God, we believe this experience is distinct from salvation. It is an empowerment for life and service.
Today, we are looking at what we call "The Evidence." How do we know the Spirit is moving? How do we live truly empowered?
The Promise of the Father
Jesus called the Holy Spirit the "Promise of the Father."
Think about that for a second.
God the Father made a promise to you. He promised that you wouldn't have to navigate this world alone. He promised that His very presence would dwell within you, giving you the ability to do things you couldn't do on your own.
When we talk about being "empowered," we aren't talking about hype. We aren't talking about emotional highs that fade by Monday morning.
We are talking about a spiritual reality that changes your DNA.

What is the Evidence?
In our community, we look to the Book of Acts as our blueprint.
In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit fell on the believers in the Upper Room. The Bible says they were all filled and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
This brings us to a core truth. The initial physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues.
Now, let's keep it simple.
Tongues isn't a badge of honor. It isn't a sign that you are "better" than someone else. It is a sign of surrender.
When the Holy Spirit fills a person, it often overflows through their speech. It is a beautiful, supernatural language that allows your spirit to communicate directly with God.
It is the outward sign of an inward overflow.
Beyond the Sign
While the initial evidence is speaking in tongues, the purpose is power.
If you have a car, the "evidence" that it’s running might be the sound of the engine. But the "purpose" of the car is to get you where you need to go.
The Holy Spirit isn't just about a one-time experience in a church service.
It’s about what happens next.
It’s about having the courage to share your faith with a coworker. It's about having the patience to love a difficult family member. It’s about the "signs following" your life.
When you are empowered, your life looks different. You find a new love for the Bible. You find a deeper hunger for prayer. You find a passion for those who don't know Jesus yet.

Why Do We Need This Today?
The world in 2026 is loud. It’s fast. It’s often overwhelming.
As believers, we are called to be a light. But you can't be a light if you don't have a power source.
Living empowered means you aren't reacting to the world from a place of fear. You are responding to the world from a place of Spirit-led peace.
We see this empowerment manifest in several ways:
Boldness: The same Peter who denied Jesus became the man who preached to thousands.
Gifts: The Holy Spirit brings gifts: healing, prophecy, discernment: to help the church.
Fruit: Your character begins to reflect Jesus more naturally.
Prayer: You have a direct line to the Father when words fail you.
If you feel like your spiritual life has hit a plateau, this is for you.
It Is for Everyone
One of the most beautiful things about the Holy Spirit is that He is no respecter of persons.
It doesn't matter how long you’ve been a Christian. It doesn't matter what your background is. It doesn't matter if you’ve made a thousand mistakes.
The Promise is for you.
In Acts 2:39, it says the promise is for you, your children, and all who are far off. That includes us today.
You don't have to "earn" the Holy Spirit. You don't have to be "perfect" to be filled. You just have to be hungry.
If you are thirsty, Jesus says, come and drink.

How to Receive
If you desire to live empowered, it starts with a simple step of faith.
First, ask.
Jesus said that if earthly fathers know how to give good gifts, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?
Second, believe.
Believe that God wants to empower you. Believe that His Word is true.
Third, receive.
This is the part where we often get stuck. We try to work for it. But receiving is an act of surrender. It’s opening your heart and letting the Spirit flow through you.
Many people find it helpful to spend time in worship. Some find it helpful to have others pray with them.

A Daily Walk
Living empowered isn't a "one and done" event.
Paul the Apostle told the church to "be filled" with the Spirit. In the original language, that implies a continuous action.
"Keep on being filled."
Every morning is a new opportunity to ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. Every day is a new chance to rely on His strength instead of your own.
When you wake up, try saying a simple prayer: "Holy Spirit, I surrender to You today. Lead me. Speak through me. Empower me."
Watch how your day changes. Watch how your perspective shifts.

Walking in the Spirit
When we walk in the Spirit, we start to see the world through God’s eyes.
We see needs we didn't see before. We feel a compassion we didn't have before.
This is the heart of Boundless Online Church. We want to help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. We believe that technology is just a tool, but the Holy Spirit is the engine.
Whether you are watching a service from your living room or joining a digital small group, the Spirit is there. He isn't limited by geography or screens.
He is boundless.
