The Living Word: Why We Trust the Bible Today

We live in a world overflowing with information. Between social media feeds, 24-hour news cycles, and the endless scroll of our phones, it is easy to feel like truth is moving target. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone claims to have the "real" story.

For many people exploring faith, the Bible can feel like just another voice in the crowd. Maybe you’ve wondered: Is this just an old book of fables? How do we know it hasn't been changed over the years? Why should I base my life on something written thousands of years ago?

At Boundless Online Church, we believe the Bible isn't just a historical artifact. It is the foundation of everything we do. We believe it is the inspired, authoritative Word of God: a steady anchor in a shifting world.

If you are a new Christian or just someone searching for answers, let’s talk about why we trust this book and why it still matters today.

It’s More Than Just a Good Book

When we talk about the Bible, we often use the word "inspired." In the Assemblies of God, our very first fundamental truth is that the Scriptures are "verbally inspired by God."

But what does that actually mean? It doesn't mean the authors were in a trance or that God took over their hands like a robot. Instead, it means that God worked through human writers: their personalities, their languages, and their styles: to communicate exactly what He wanted us to know.

The Apostle Paul described it as being "God-breathed." Just as your breath carries your words, God’s Spirit carried His truth through these writers. This makes the Bible unique. It’s not just human wisdom; it’s a divine message meant for you.

The Jesus Connection

One of the most compelling reasons to trust the Bible is actually quite simple: Jesus trusted it.

If we believe that Jesus is who He said He was: the Son of God who rose from the grave: then His perspective on the Bible carries a lot of weight. Throughout His life, Jesus treated the Scriptures (which was the Old Testament at the time) as the ultimate authority.

When He was tempted, He quoted Scripture. When He taught about marriage or justice, He looked to the Word. He didn't see it as a collection of suggestions; He saw it as the voice of His Father.

For those of us following Him today, we follow His lead. If the Bible was good enough for Jesus to rely on during His hardest moments, it’s certainly good enough for us.

Tangible Evidence: The Paper Trail

Faith is important, but God didn't ask us to leave our brains at the door. One of the biggest hurdles for seekers is the fear that the Bible has been changed like a giant game of "telephone" over the centuries.

The historical evidence actually suggests the opposite.

The New Testament is the most well-documented ancient text in history. We have thousands of early manuscripts that allow scholars to compare and verify that what we read today is what was originally written. Compared to other famous ancient works: like those of Plato or Caesar: the Bible has far more evidence backing its accuracy.

It was also written by eyewitnesses. These weren't stories passed down for hundreds of years before being written; these were accounts from people who saw Jesus, ate with Him, and watched Him work. They had nothing to gain and everything to lose by telling the truth, yet they stood by their accounts even in the face of death.

One Story, Forty Authors

Think about this for a second: The Bible was written over a span of 1,500 years by about 40 different authors.

These authors came from all walks of life. Some were kings, some were fishermen, others were poets, doctors, or tax collectors. They wrote from different continents and in three different languages.

Despite all that diversity, the Bible tells one unified story. From the very first page of Genesis to the very last page of Revelation, there is a consistent theme: God’s love for humanity and His plan to rescue us through Jesus Christ.

That kind of theological unity is statistically impossible by human effort alone. It points to a "Divine Editor" behind the scenes, guiding the process so that every piece fits together perfectly.

It Actually Works

The final reason we trust the Bible today is the most personal: it changes lives.

Hebrews 4:12 says that the Word of God is "alive and active." It isn't a dead text. When you read it, it has a way of reading you. It addresses our deepest fears, our hidden shames, and our greatest hopes.

Throughout history, this book has been banned, burned, and mocked. Yet, it remains the best-selling book of all time because people keep finding life within its pages. We see it every day in our community: people finding freedom from addiction, families being restored, and individuals finding a peace that doesn't make sense to the rest of the world.

If you’re looking for a place to discuss these truths with others, you might want to check out our Bible Study Club. It’s a great spot to ask questions and grow alongside people who are on the same journey.

How to Start Reading

If the Bible is the "Living Word," how do you start engaging with it? If you're new to this, it can feel a bit intimidating. You don't have to start on page one and power through.

Here are a few casual tips:

  1. Start with Jesus: Read the Gospel of John. It’s a beautiful account of who Jesus is and why He came.

  2. Take it slow: You don't need to read five chapters a day. One paragraph that you actually think about is better than five pages you don't remember.

  3. Ask for help: The Holy Spirit is the best teacher. Before you read, just say, "God, show me something today."

  4. Join a group: We weren't meant to figure this out alone. Whether it's our Bible Study for Men or our general welcome center, there are people ready to walk with you.

We want to help you meet Jesus and grow in faith online. The Bible is the primary way that happens. It’s not about following a set of rules; it’s about getting to know the Person who created you and loves you beyond measure.

What Are Your Questions?

We know that trusting the Bible can be a big step. Maybe you have specific questions about a verse you read, or perhaps you’re struggling with how the Bible fits into modern science or history.

Whatever it is, don't keep those questions to yourself. We love diving into these topics. You can explore our I'm New Q&A Welcome Center to connect with others who are asking the same things.

The Bible has stood the test of time. It has survived empires and outlasted its critics. But more importantly, it can handle your questions.

If you're ready to take a next step, whether that's starting a reading plan or joining an online group, we are here for you. Visit us at www.boundlessonlinechurch.org to see all the ways you can get plugged in.
