The Ultimate Guide to Finding Purpose Through Jesus: Life's Hardest Questions Answered in One Podcast Series

We all ask the hard questions eventually.

Why am I here? What's my purpose? How do I know I'm on the right path?

These aren't just philosophical puzzles. They're deeply personal questions that shape how we live every single day.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe the answers aren't found in a self-help formula or a five-step program. They're discovered through relationship with Jesus.

That's what our Life Questions Series is all about.

Purpose Isn't Something You Chase: It's Someone You Know

Here's the shift that changes everything:

Purpose isn't a destination. It's a relationship.

Too many of us exhaust ourselves trying to find our purpose like it's hidden treasure buried somewhere out there. We chase career goals, compare ourselves to others, and wonder if we're doing enough.

But according to Scripture and seasoned teachers like Stephanie Ike Okafor, purpose is revealed as you walk in relationship with Jesus. When you rest in who He is, you begin to understand who you are and why you were created.

This isn't passive. It's active trust.

It's waking up each day and asking, "Lord, what can I do today for You?" instead of "What am I supposed to do with my entire life?"

The Two Levels of Purpose: Universal and Specific

One of the most helpful distinctions in understanding purpose is recognizing that God has two levels of calling for your life.

First, the universal purpose.

Every believer shares this calling: love God, love others, and make disciples. This is your mission regardless of your job title, location, or season of life. Whether you're a teacher, a barista, a stay-at-home parent, or a CEO, this calling applies.

You don't need a burning bush moment to start living this out. You can begin today: right where you are.

Second, the specific purpose.

Some people receive clear guidance about a particular mission or role. Maybe it's starting a nonprofit, moving to a new city, or stepping into ministry leadership.

But here's the truth: most people don't get crystal-clear specifics early on.

Your specific purpose often unfolds as "a series of events and experiences" combined with your passions and natural gifts. God leads you step by step, not all at once.

And that's okay.

You don't need the full roadmap to take the next faithful step.

Knowing Your "Why" Changes Everything

Investment banker and author Ken Costa says it this way:

"If you know your why, you'll find your way in life. If you don't know your why, everything else is in the way."

That's powerful.

Your "why" isn't just a tagline or a motivational phrase. It's the deep conviction that anchors you when life gets hard. It's what keeps you going when obstacles pile up.

And here's the good news: you discover your "why" through prayer and submission to God.

When you submit your plans, your dreams, and your uncertainties to Him, clarity begins to emerge. Not always instantly, but gradually. The fog lifts. The path becomes clearer.

Obstacles that once felt impossible start to feel manageable because you know who you're doing this for and why it matters.

Becoming, Not Just Doing

One of the biggest traps in the purpose conversation is focusing exclusively on what you're doing instead of who you're becoming.

God isn't just interested in your output. He's interested in your transformation.

The Life Questions Series digs into this tension. How do you pursue purpose without burning out? How do you stay faithful in the mundane moments when nothing feels significant?

The answer is surprisingly simple: draw closer to God daily.

Ask Him, "What can I do today for You?"

Seek contentment in your current circumstances.

Remain open to His leading.

This is the rhythm of a purpose-filled life. Not frantic striving, but steady faithfulness.

Finding Purpose in the Hard Seasons

Let's be honest: some of life's hardest questions come during the most painful seasons.

Why is this happening to me? Where is God in this mess? Does my suffering have any meaning?

The Life Questions Series doesn't shy away from these realities. Faith and calling often develop through suffering, not around it.

Jesus Himself modeled this. His purpose led Him to the cross: the ultimate act of love and sacrifice. And through that pain, the world was redeemed.

Your pain isn't wasted when it's surrendered to Him.

God can use your hardest moments to shape you, refine you, and prepare you for the unique purpose He has for your life.
