The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: Everything You Need to Succeed

Bible Study | The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths | Everything You Need to Succeed

The 16 Fundamental Truths represent the non-negotiable core doctrines of the Assemblies of God. These biblical principles provide a solid foundation for faith, ensuring that believers remain grounded in sound teaching. By understanding these truths, you gain the spiritual clarity and scriptural "guardrails" necessary to succeed in your walk with Christ.

**Bible Verses**

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." : 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment." : Hebrews 6:1-2 (NIV)

**Understanding Your Foundation**

I’ve always believed that if you want to build something that lasts, you have to start with the foundation. Whether you’re building a house, a career, or a life of faith, what’s underneath determines how high you can go. In our community, we look to the 16 Fundamental Truths not just as a list of rules, but as a roadmap for spiritual success.

When the world feels like it’s shifting under your feet, you need to know what you stand on. These truths aren't just for scholars or pastors; they are for every seeker and believer who wants to live a life aligned with God's heart. As we dive into this 16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study, remember that the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. These truths keep us safe, keep us focused, and keep us moving toward the "Blessed Hope."

**The Four Cardinal Doctrines**

Before we list all sixteen, I want to highlight the four "Cardinal Doctrines." These are the pillars of our mission. If you understand these four, you understand the heartbeat of the Assemblies of God:

1. **Salvation:** Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are restored to God. 2. **Baptism in the Holy Spirit:** An empowering experience that gives us the strength to live for Him. 3. **Divine Healing:** God still heals the sick today as part of the atonement. 4. **The Second Coming:** Jesus is coming back for His Church.

**A Deep Dive into the 16 Truths**

**1. The Scriptures Inspired** The Bible is our ultimate authority. It’s not just a book of good advice; it is God’s Word to us. When you’re looking for success in life, start by looking at the manual. Every answer you need for your family, your finances, and your future is found within these pages.

**2. The One True God** We believe in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM." Understanding that God is one, yet three persons, helps us see the depth of His relationship with us.

**3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ** Jesus isn't just a "good teacher." He is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died for our sins, and rose from the grave. To succeed in faith, you must acknowledge Jesus as Lord.

**4. The Fall of Man** Man was created good, but we chose to go our own way. This "fall" brought sin and death into the world. Acknowledging this isn't about shame; it’s about realizing why we need a Savior. It’s the honest starting point for any transformation.

**5. The Salvation of Man** This is the "Good News." We can’t earn our way to God. Salvation comes through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. It’s a gift of grace, and it's available to everyone.

**6. The Ordinances of the Church** We practice water baptism by immersion (showing the world we’ve died to our old lives) and Holy Communion (remembering Christ’s sacrifice). These are outward signs of an inward change.

**7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit** Jesus promised us a Helper. This experience is distinct from salvation and provides the "fire" and "power" needed for life and service. If you feel like your spiritual life is running on empty, this is the gift you need to seek.

**8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit** We believe that speaking in other tongues, as the Spirit gives utterance, is the initial physical sign of this baptism. It’s a beautiful, personal way to communicate with God and be built up in faith.

**9. Sanctification** Success in Christ involves growth. Sanctification is the process of being set apart from sin and dedicated to God. It’s not about being perfect tomorrow; it’s about being more like Jesus today than you were yesterday.

**10. The Church and Its Mission** The Church isn’t a building; it’s the body of Christ. Our mission is to reach the world, worship God together, and build up one another. In a digital world, this means creating safe spaces online where we can grow together.

**11. The Ministry** God calls people specifically to lead, teach, and care for the body. This helps keep us organized and focused on the Great Commission.

**12. Divine Healing** We believe God cares about your body as well as your soul. Healing is provided for in the atonement and is a privilege for all believers.

**13. The Blessed Hope** This is the "Rapture." We believe Jesus will return to gather His believers. This truth gives us perspective during hard times: this world is not our final home.

**14. The Millennial Reign of Christ** Jesus will return with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. This will be a time of universal peace and the fulfillment of God’s promises to Israel.

**15. The Final Judgment** There will be a day of accounting. Those who have rejected Christ will face eternal punishment, while the righteous enter eternal life. This truth underscores the urgency of our mission to share the Gospel.

**16. The New Heavens and the New Earth** Finally, we look forward to a perfect world where God dwells with His people forever. No more tears, no more pain. That is the ultimate success.
