A Message from FA Memphis
Hey there. If you’re reading this from a crew lounge, a hotel room in a timezone that doesn't quite match your internal clock, or maybe at the gate before a long-haul flight, welcome.
There is something unique about the life of a pilot or a frequent traveler. You spend your days: and often your nights: in that "thin place" between heaven and earth. You see the world from a perspective most people only get to glimpse through a tiny oval window for a few hours a year.
But with that incredible view comes a specific set of challenges.
How do you maintain a consistent walk with God when your schedule is anything but consistent? How do you keep your faith grounded when you’re literally off the ground for half your life?
At Boundless Online Church, we get it. We are built for people who are on the move. We believe that God’s presence isn't restricted by GPS coordinates or flight levels.
The Sovereignty of God at 30,000 Feet
One of the core beliefs we hold dear in the Assemblies of God is the sovereignty and providence of God. We believe He is the creator and sustainer of all things. When you’re sitting in that cockpit, surrounded by advanced avionics and the hum of powerful engines, it’s easy to feel like the master of your domain.
And in a technical sense, you are. You’ve put in the hours, passed the check-rides, and earned those stripes.
But there is a deeper peace that comes from acknowledging that even the air that generates your lift belongs to Him.

History tells us that pilots have always reached for something higher than the ceiling of their aircraft. During World War II, aviators often had "The Pilot's Prayer" tucked into their flight suits. It wasn't out of superstition; it was a recognition of human limitation. They knew that in the high-stakes environment of aerial combat, they needed a Co-Pilot who didn't blink.
Today, while the risks have changed, the spiritual need remains. Whether you’re navigating clear blue skies or pushing through a line of thunderstorms, acknowledging God’s hand in your journey changes the atmosphere of the cockpit.
Rituals of Readiness
Every pilot knows the importance of a pre-flight checklist. You don't skip it. You don't "eye-ball" it. You go through it methodically because your life and the lives of your passengers depend on it.
Your spiritual life needs a pre-flight checklist, too.
Maintaining faith while traveling requires intentionality. Many Christian pilots we’ve spoken with have developed a "Pilot’s Prayer" ritual. It’s a moment of quiet before the "Before Start" checklist begins.
It might be as simple as: “Lord, thank You for this day. Give me clarity of mind, precision in my hands, and Your peace in this flight deck. Watch over those in the cabin and my family back home. Amen.”
This isn't just a religious exercise. It’s a psychological and spiritual anchor. It humbles the heart and focuses the mind. It reminds you that you aren't carrying the weight of the world alone.
Peace in the Turbulence
Turbulence is a part of the job. You know it’s coming, even if you don't know exactly when. In life, spiritual turbulence works much the same way.
When things go wrong: an engine light flickers, weather closes in, or personal news from home hits you during a layover: where do you turn for composure?
The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter and Guide. In the Assemblies of God, we believe in the present-day power of the Holy Spirit to give us peace that passes all understanding.
I’m reminded of stories of modern commercial pilots who, when faced with catastrophic emergencies, didn't just rely on their training. They whispered prayers. They drew on a lifetime of faith to stay calm while their hands performed the procedures they were trained to do.
Faith doesn't replace skill; it empowers it. It keeps the panic at bay so the professional can do the work.

Staying Connected While on the Move
One of the hardest parts of being a traveler is the "disconnection." You miss the Sunday morning service. You miss the mid-week Bible study. You miss the community that keeps you sharp.
This is exactly why we created Boundless Online Church.
We want to be your home church, even when you’re 5,000 miles away from home. We believe that the church is not a building: it’s a body of believers connected by the Spirit.
If you’re looking for ways to stay grounded, here are a few practical tips for the traveling believer:
Digital Community: Join a group that understands your life. Our Bible Study Club is a great place to connect with others who are seeking God in the margins of their busy lives.
Audio Bible & Podcasts: When you’re in the hotel or commuting to the airport, fill your mind with the Word. It sets the tone for your day before the world starts making demands on you.
Scheduled Prayer: Use your "top of descent" or your arrival at the hotel as a trigger to check in with God.
Men’s Groups: For the guys in the flight deck, check out our Bible Study for Men. It’s a private space to talk about the unique pressures of leadership and travel.
The Great Commission at 30,000 Feet
Did you know that as a traveler, you have a unique mission field?
You encounter people from every walk of life. You see the brokenness and the beauty of the world in a way most people never will. In the Assemblies of God, we are passionate about global missions. We believe everyone needs to hear the good news of Jesus.
Sometimes, your "mission" isn't a sermon. It’s the way you treat the gate agent who is having a bad day. It’s the calm you project when a passenger is nervous. It’s the integrity you show in your pre-flight duties.
You are an ambassador for Christ in a uniform.

A Prayer for the Journey
Whether you are a pilot, a flight attendant, or someone who travels for business, we want to leave you with a prayer you can carry with you.
Heavenly Father,
I thank You for the gift of flight and the ability to see Your creation from above. As I travel today, I ask for Your divine protection. Guide my path and keep my way clear. Give me wisdom in every decision and peace in every situation.
Lord, keep my family safe while I am away. Let them feel Your presence as I feel it here. Use me to be a light to those I encounter today: at the gate, in the air, and in the hotel. Thank You for being the God of the heavens and the earth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
