Unlimited Access: A Simple Gospel for Someone Who’s Been Hurt by Church

If you are reading this and your heart feels a little heavy or your defenses are up, I want you to know right now that you are in a safe place. We know that for many people, the word church doesn't bring to mind feelings of peace or community. Instead, it might bring up memories of judgment, exclusion, or even deep personal pain. Maybe you were told you didn’t belong, or perhaps the people who were supposed to represent God’s love ended up showing you something else entirely. If that is your story, I am so sorry. Your pain is valid, and your hesitation is completely understandable.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that your past experiences with religion should never be a barrier to your relationship with God. We are walking through a series called Unlimited Access because we want to strip away the complications and the hurt to get back to the heart of the matter. The Gospel is not a weapon used to keep people out; it is an invitation for everyone to come in. It is a simple message of hope that says you have direct, unhindered access to a Creator who loves you more than you can imagine.

It is important to start by acknowledging a hard truth that is often overlooked in religious circles. People are imperfect. Even in the best of circumstances, humans can be messy, selfish, and deeply flawed. In the Assemblies of God, we recognize this as the fall of man. We believe that sin entered the world and affected everything, including the way we treat one another. Unfortunately, this means that even inside a church building, people can do things that hurt others. But here is the distinction we want to help you make: the people who hurt you are not God. The system that failed you is not the Savior.

Jesus spent much of His time on earth talking to people who had been sidelined by the religious establishment of His day. He sat with the outcasts, healed the people the "pious" wouldn’t touch, and reserved His harshest words for the leaders who made it difficult for ordinary people to find God. He came to bridge the gap that human failure and religious rules had created. When we talk about the Gospel, we are talking about the person of Jesus, not the politics or the social pressures of a local congregation.

The core of what we believe starts with the Bible. We see the Scriptures as our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. But for someone who has been hurt, the Bible can sometimes feel like a book of rules used to point out your mistakes. We want to invite you to look at it differently. It is actually a long story of God’s relentless pursuit of people who were lost, hurting, and tired. It tells us about the one true God who exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and how He has gone to incredible lengths to make sure you have unlimited access to His presence.

Salvation is the central theme of this story. In our tradition, we focus on the sixteen fundamental truths, and the necessity of salvation is right at the top. But salvation isn’t about joining a club or passing a test. It is about a gift. It is the realization that while we couldn’t get to God on our own, He came to us. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, the price for our mistakes was paid in full. This means that you don’t have to "fix" yourself before you can talk to God. You don’t have to wait until you feel "holy" enough to pray. You have access right now, exactly as you are.

One of the most beautiful aspects of this access is the role of the Holy Spirit. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which many people think sounds very "churchy" or intimidating. Simply put, we believe that God gives us His Spirit to be our Comforter and our Helper. If you are dealing with church hurt, the Holy Spirit is the one who can bring healing to those deep wounds. He is the one who speaks peace to your mind when the old voices of judgment try to creep back in. He empowers us to live a life that is different, a life defined by love and grace rather than fear and performance.

You might be wondering how to even begin moving forward when your trust has been broken. We suggest starting with a very simple step: separate the message from the messengers. If a person in a church treated you poorly, that was a reflection of their own brokenness, not God’s heart toward you. God’s heart is revealed in the life of Jesus, who gave everything so that you would never have to be separated from Him again. You have unlimited access to the Father, which means you can talk to Him in your living room, on your commute, or in the middle of a sleepless night. You don't need a middleman to find His grace.

Healing from church hurt is rarely a quick process. It takes time to unlearn the things that caused you pain. It takes time to realize that God isn't angry with you or disappointed in your questions. In fact, He welcomes your questions. He is not threatened by your doubts or your anger about what happened to you. He wants to walk through those things with you. If you want to dive deeper into the basics of what we believe without the pressure of a traditional setting, you might find it helpful to read about what are the 16 fundamental truths of the assemblies of god. It is a straightforward look at the foundations of our faith, centered on the grace of Jesus.

Our community at Boundless Online Church is designed for people who need a different kind of space. Whether you are a shift worker, someone living with a disability, or someone who simply isn't ready to walk into a physical church building again, we are here for you. We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. We want to provide a space where you can explore the Gospel at your own pace, with no strings attached and no judgment. We are just a group of people who have found hope in Jesus and want to share that hope with others.

If you are feeling a pull toward faith but you are still scared, that is okay. You can start small. Maybe that means joining us for sunday live worship from the comfort of your own home where you can participate as much or as little as you like. Or maybe it means simply asking God to show you who He really is, apart from the noise of your past experiences. We believe that God is faithful to answer that prayer. He wants to be known by you.

As you navigate this journey, remember that the goal of the Christian life is not to become a perfect "church person." The goal is to know Jesus. When we focus on Him, the other things start to fall into their proper place. We learn that we are forgiven, we learn that we are chosen, and we learn that we have a purpose. This is the promise of the simple Gospel. It is a message of redemption and restoration. It is the assurance that no matter what has been done to you or what you have done, the door to God’s presence is wide open.

We are here to support you in whatever way we can. If you have questions about faith, or if you just need someone to acknowledge the pain you've been through, please reach out. You can visit our prayer wall to share a request or see how others are walking through their own struggles. You are not alone on this path, even if it feels like it right now. There is a whole community of people who are learning what it means to live in the freedom of unlimited access to God’s love.

Thank you for being here and for being willing to open your heart even just a little bit. We don't take your trust for granted. We hope you find the peace and the healing that only Jesus can provide. This journey isn't about finding a perfect church; it's about finding a perfect Savior who loves you exactly as you are today.
