Unlimited Access: How to Follow Jesus When You Can't Leave Home

Life has a way of changing our "normal" without much warning. For some, the four walls of home have become the primary sanctuary. Whether you are managing a long-term illness, navigating the golden years of life with limited mobility, or walking the courageous path of recovery, the feeling of being "left out" of church life can be heavy.

But here is the beautiful truth: God is not confined to a steeple or a zip code.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that your living room, your hospital bed, or your kitchen table can become holy ground. The "Unlimited Access" we have to the Father through Jesus Christ isn't dependent on our ability to walk through a set of double doors on Sunday morning.

If you can't leave home today, you are still part of the Body of Christ. You are still called, you are still loved, and you still have a vital role to play in God’s kingdom. Let’s talk about how to follow Jesus with everything you’ve got, right where you are.

The Church Has No Walls

One of the core beliefs we hold dear is that the Church is not a building, it is a people. In the book of Acts, we see the early believers meeting in homes, sharing meals, and praying together. They didn't have massive cathedrals; they had the Holy Spirit and each other.

If you are homebound, it is easy to feel like your spiritual life is on "pause." You might miss the sound of the choir or the handshake at the door. Those things are wonderful, but they are not the source of your salvation or your connection to God.

Following Jesus from home starts with a shift in perspective. You aren't "missing" church; you are being the church in a different space. Jesus promised that where two or three are gathered in His name, He is there in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20). When you log on to a Sunday live worship service, you are gathering with a global family. The Holy Spirit doesn't need a physical bridge to connect your heart to the hearts of thousands of others worshipping at the same time.

Creating Your Sacred Space

When you can’t get to the sanctuary, bring the sanctuary to you. It helps to be intentional about your environment. If you’re watching a service on your tablet or listening to a sermon on your phone, try to treat it with the same reverence you would if you were sitting in a pew.

Find a comfortable spot where you feel at peace. Maybe it’s a favorite armchair or a spot by the window. Light a candle, have your Bible open, and keep a notebook nearby. By creating a physical routine, you signal to your heart and mind that this time is set apart for God.

Following Jesus is about relationship, and relationships require communication. Even if your physical strength is low, your spirit is powerful. You can talk to God all day long. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother, and He is especially near to the brokenhearted and those who feel isolated.

Staying Connected Through Digital Community

Isolation is one of the enemy’s favorite tools. When we feel alone, we are more prone to discouragement and doubt. That is why digital community is such a gift for those who are homebound or in recovery.

You don’t have to do this alone. At Boundless, we have various groups designed to help you connect with others who are walking similar paths. Whether it's a prayer circle or a Bible study group, these digital spaces allow you to share your life, your struggles, and your victories with people who care.

Technology has given us the tools to fulfill the "Great Commission" from our couches. You can encourage a fellow believer through a comment, share a verse that helped you get through the night, or even join a global prayer movement. Your physical limitations do not limit your digital reach.

Feeding Your Soul Daily

Growth doesn't just happen on Sundays. For someone who spends most of their time at home, the days can sometimes blur together. Establishing a daily rhythm of looking into God's Word is vital for staying spiritually healthy.

If you aren't sure where to start, we offer resources like The Boundless Daily to give you a focal point for your day. Reading the Word is like bread for your soul, it sustains you when things get tough.

For parents or grandparents who are homebound, you still have a massive influence on the generations coming after you. Even from home, you can lead your family in faith. Check out our daily devotionals for parents to find ways to weave faith into your conversations with your children or grandchildren, whether in person or over a video call.

The Power of the Prayer Wall

One of the most profound ways to follow Jesus is through intercession, praying for others. When you can’t "do" much physically, you can do a massive amount spiritually.

We invite you to visit our Prayer Wall. There, you can see the needs of people all over the world. As you read those requests, you can lift them up to the Father. There is something incredibly healing about taking the focus off our own circumstances and standing in the gap for someone else.

Intercession is a high calling. Many of the greatest prayer warriors in history were people who were confined to their rooms but moved the hand of God through their persistent faith. Your prayers are not small. They are "unlimited access" powerhouses that can change lives.

You Are Not Forgotten

If you are reading this and you feel like you've been forgotten by the world, please know that you are seen by God. He knows the number of hairs on your head and He sees every tear you’ve shed in the quiet hours of the night.

In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe in the present power of the Holy Spirit to comfort, to heal, and to empower. That power isn't reserved for the people standing on a stage; it's for you. Right now.

If you’re in recovery, every day you choose to follow Jesus is a victory. If you’re homebound due to age or illness, every moment you spend in His presence is an investment in eternity. You are a vital part of what God is doing in the world.

Taking the Next Step

Following Jesus is a journey of small steps. If you’ve felt disconnected, your next step might be as simple as joining us for a live service or reaching out for prayer.

We are here to walk with you. Boundless Online Church was built for this very reason: to ensure that no one is ever truly "stuck" at home when it comes to their faith. We are a digital church serving those who cannot attend in person, and we would be honored to be your church home.
