Unlimited Access: The Single Parent's Sunday Morning

Sunday morning.

For many, those two words conjure up images of quiet coffee, ironed clothes, and a peaceful drive to a church building. But for you: the single parent: Sunday morning often feels like a cross between a marathon and a wrestling match.

The alarm goes off. Maybe a toddler is already jumping on your bed, or perhaps you’re staring at the ceiling, mentally calculating how many loads of laundry stand between you and a "restful" day. You want to connect with God. You want that spiritual recharge. But between the cereal spills, the missing socks, and the sheer exhaustion of carrying the weight of your household alone, getting out the door can feel impossible.

Here is the good news: God isn’t waiting for you at a specific GPS coordinate.

As part of our Unlimited Access series, we’re exploring how the grace of Jesus Christ isn’t gated behind a sanctuary door. It’s available right there on your sofa, in your kitchen, and even in the middle of the morning chaos.

The Myth of the "Perfect" Sunday

There’s a heavy pressure that often sits on the shoulders of single parents. We feel like if we aren’t sitting in a pew by 10:00 AM with perfectly behaved children, we’re somehow "failing" at our faith.

But let’s look at the heart of the Gospel. Jesus didn't spend His time waiting for people to get their acts together so they could visit Him in a formal setting. He went to the well. He went to the messy dinner tables. He went to the places where people were tired and overwhelmed.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that your living room is holy ground. Whether you are a single mom trying to find five minutes of peace or a single dad working a double shift on the weekend, you have unlimited access to the presence of God.

Finding Your "Before the Chaos" Moment

Research into the routines of successful single parents often points to one thing: the power of the early morning.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. "Penny, I’m already exhausted. You want me to wake up earlier?"

It doesn’t have to be an hour. Even fifteen minutes before the house wakes up can change the trajectory of your day. This is your time to ground yourself in the truth.

One of the 16 Fundamental Truths we hold dear is the authority of the Scriptures. When you open your Bible: or even a Bible app: for ten minutes before the kids wake up, you are anchoring your soul. You are reminding yourself that you aren't doing this alone.

Try this:

  1. Start small. Set your alarm just 10 or 15 minutes early.

  2. Keep it simple. Don’t feel like you need to do a deep theological study. Just read a Psalm or a few verses from the Gospels.

  3. Invite the Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you strength and patience for the day ahead.

This isn't about checking a religious box. It’s about filling your cup so you have something to pour out when the kids start asking for breakfast.

The Living Room Sanctuary

When the kids are up and the day is moving, Sunday can still be a day of worship. One of the beautiful things about being a "Content Creator" ministry is that we provide resources that fit into your life, not the other way around.

You can turn your living room into a sanctuary.

Maybe you can't make it to a physical building because a child is sick, or you don't have a car, or the social anxiety of entering a crowded space alone is just too much today. That is okay.

Put on a worship playlist while you make pancakes. Let the kids see you engaging with a Prayer & Worship video on your phone or TV. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe in the "Blessed Hope": the reality that Jesus is coming back and that He is with us right now through His Spirit. That Spirit is just as present in your cluttered kitchen as He is in the grandest cathedral.

Discipleship in the Mess

As a single parent, you are the primary spiritual leader of your home. That sounds intimidating, doesn't it? But discipleship isn't about having all the answers. It’s about invitation.

Invite your kids into your faith journey.

  • If you’re listening to a sermon online, explain to them why.

  • If you’re praying over a bill, let them see you trust God.

  • Check out our Family Resources for ways to talk to your kids about Jesus in a way they’ll actually enjoy.

Your children will learn more from seeing your "real-life" faith: how you handle a burnt breakfast or a stressful morning: than they will from a Sunday school lesson alone. When they see you leaning on God’s strength, they learn that they can too.

For the Sunday Shift Workers

We know that for many single parents, Sunday morning isn't a day off. You might be a nurse, a retail worker, or a first responder. You might be finishing a night shift just as the rest of the world is waking up.

If your "Sunday morning" happens on a Tuesday afternoon or a Friday night, your access to God is still unlimited.

The beauty of Boundless Online Church is that the "doors" are always open. You can engage with our community, watch a message, or participate in a Challenge whenever your schedule allows. God isn't checking the clock. He is looking at your heart.

If you’re working today, know that your work is a form of worship too. You are providing for your family, and God sees that sacrifice.

A Word of Encouragement

If you feel overwhelmed today, take a deep breath.

God is not a taskmaster demanding a perfect performance. He is a Father who loves you. He knows exactly how many hours of sleep you got last night. He knows the weight of the decisions you’re making alone.

Our mission at Boundless is simple: We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. We want to walk alongside you, offering a hand when you feel like you’re slipping.

You don't need a fancy outfit or a stress-free morning to talk to God. You just need a "yes" in your heart. You have unlimited access to His grace, His mercy, and His strength.
