Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. It is a total trust in the reliability of God and His Word. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are justified and empowered to live a life that is pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
Key Bible Verses:
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV): "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Romans 10:17 (NIV): "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV): "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith: and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God: not by works, so that no one can boast."
When we talk about faith, we aren't just talking about a "good vibe" or a positive outlook on life. True biblical faith is the bedrock of our relationship with God. I often hear from people all over the world who are searching for something solid to hold onto when life feels like it's shifting beneath their feet. They ask, "How do I get more faith?" or "What does the Bible actually say about it?" To understand faith, we have to look at it through the lens of Scripture, keeping in mind that our Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails for how we interpret these truths.
Faith is both a starting point and a journey. It begins with the realization that we cannot save ourselves. According to the 16 Fundamental Truths, salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. This is exactly what Paul is talking about in Ephesians 2:8-9. It’s a gift. You can’t earn it by being "good enough" or doing enough chores for the kingdom. It is a humble acceptance of what Jesus has already done on the cross. When we place our trust in Him, we are justified: declared righteous: not because of our perfection, but because of His.

But how does that faith grow? Romans 10:17 gives us the blueprint: faith comes by hearing the Word of God. This is why spending time in the Bible is so vital. You can't trust someone you don't know, and you can't know God without engaging with His revelation of Himself. As you read about His faithfulness to Noah, His provision for Elijah, and His ultimate love shown through Jesus, your confidence in Him begins to outweigh your fear of the unknown. Hebrews 11 is often called the "Hall of Faith." It defines faith as the "assurance of things hoped for." This isn't "I hope it rains" kind of hope; it’s a confident expectation. It’s like sitting in a chair. You don’t think about whether the chair will hold you; you simply sit because you have "faith" in its construction. Biblical faith is sitting in the "chair" of God’s promises. Even when we can’t see the outcome, we know the One who holds the future.
Living by faith means we operate differently than the rest of the world. 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that "we walk by faith, not by sight." This is a daily challenge! Our eyes see the bills, the health reports, and the chaos in the news. But faith looks past the physical circumstances to the spiritual reality that God is still on the throne. He is our provider, our healer, and our peace. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe in the present-day power of the Holy Spirit to strengthen our faith. We aren't just reading about a God who acted thousands of years ago; we are serving a God who is active right now.

Proverbs 3:5-6 is another cornerstone for us: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This verse highlights the "total trust" aspect of faith. It requires us to lay down our need to control everything. Our own understanding is limited. We see a tiny sliver of the map, but God sees the whole landscape. When we acknowledge Him in everything: from our career choices to our family dynamics: He promises to direct our steps.
Sometimes, faith is tested. James 1:2-4 reminds us that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. I know that’s not always what we want to hear when we’re in the middle of a trial, but it’s a profound truth. Faith is like a muscle; it needs resistance to grow. When you choose to trust God in the middle of a storm, your faith becomes stronger and more resilient. You begin to realize that you are never forgotten, never alone, and deeply loved by God, regardless of what the storm looks like.
Jesus often spoke about the power of faith. In Mark 11:22-24, He told His disciples to "have faith in God" and mentioned that even faith as small as a mustard seed could move mountains. This isn't about the quantity of your faith, but the object of your faith. A tiny seed of faith placed in an Almighty God is far more powerful than a massive amount of "faith in yourself." When we pray, we pray with the conviction that nothing is impossible for Him. This aligns with our belief in divine healing and the miraculous as outlined in the Fundamental Truths.

As we navigate this journey together at Boundless Online Church, remember that faith is also communal. We weren't meant to believe in a vacuum. We need each other to stand firm when our own faith feels weak. That’s why we emphasize the importance of the global community. Whether you are homebound, unchurched, or just seeking a deeper connection, there is a place for you here. We want to meet you where you are and help you take that next step in your spiritual walk.
Every blog post we share is designed to build you up and offer practical solutions for living out your faith. Whether it’s finding rest on the Sabbath or learning how to lead your family in a digital detox, the goal is always the same: to grow closer to Jesus. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He started the work in you, and He is faithful to complete it.
If you're feeling like your faith is small today, don't be discouraged. Even the apostles prayed, "Increase our faith!" (Luke 17:5). It’s a prayer God loves to answer. Start by dwelling on the verses we've discussed today. Write them down, put them on your fridge, or save them on your phone. Let the Word of God wash over your mind and heart.

A Prayer for Increased Faith:
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are the source of all truth and life. Lord, I ask that You would increase my faith today. Help me to trust in Your Word more than I trust in my own feelings or circumstances. When I am tempted to lean on my own understanding, remind me of Your faithfulness throughout history and in my own life. I place my total trust in Jesus Christ, my Savior. Strengthen me by Your Spirit to walk by faith and not by sight. Amen.
