Salvation is the work of God’s grace where a person is redeemed from sin through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It is received through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus, resulting in a spiritual new birth. This gift is available to every person across every nation, tribe, and tongue.
In this study, we explore the fifth of the 16 Fundamental Truths: The Salvation of Man. We will examine the biblical foundations of repentance, faith, regeneration, and the beautiful assurance of eternal life through Christ.
The Universal Need for a Savior
Before we can appreciate the magnitude of salvation, we must understand the condition that makes it necessary. As we discussed in our study on what the Bible says about sin, humanity is naturally separated from God. This separation isn't just a minor distance; it is a spiritual rift that we cannot bridge on our own. Because God is holy and just, the penalty for sin is death: both physical and spiritual.
But the story doesn't end with separation. The 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God remind us that "man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." This is a global message. No matter where you are in the world: from a busy city street to a remote village: the need for Christ is the common thread of the human experience, and His grace is the universal solution.
The Conditions of Salvation: Repentance and Faith
Salvation is a gift, but it is a gift that must be received. Scripture outlines two essential responses to the Gospel: repentance and faith. These are not "works" we do to earn God's love, but rather the opening of our hands to receive what He has already provided.
Repentance toward God: This involves more than just feeling sorry for our mistakes. True repentance is a "change of mind" that leads to a change of direction. It is turning away from our own self-governance and turning toward God in humble surrender. As the Bible says, "repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations" (Luke 24:47).
Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ: This is the total reliance on Jesus as Savior and Lord. It is the belief that His death satisfied the debt of our sin and His resurrection secured our future. Romans 10:9-10 reminds us, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This faith is the bridge from death to life.

The Miracle of Regeneration and Justification
When we respond in faith, something miraculous happens inside our hearts. The Holy Spirit performs a work that theologians call "regeneration": the new birth. Jesus told Nicodemus that unless a person is "born again," they cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). This is a spiritual awakening where the Holy Spirit makes us alive in Christ (1 Peter 1:23).
Alongside this new birth is the legal reality of justification. To be justified means that God declares you righteous in His sight. He doesn't do this because you became perfect overnight, but because you are now "in Christ." Titus 3:5 states it clearly: "he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit."
Through this grace, you are no longer a stranger or an outcast. You are an heir of God, adopted into a global family of believers. This is the heart of how digital discipleship connects us; we are one body, justified by one Savior, serving one King.
The Evidence and Assurance of Your Salvation
How can you be sure you are saved? The Assemblies of God teaching emphasizes two forms of evidence. First, there is the inward evidence. This is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit to your spirit, whispering that you are a child of God (Romans 8:16). It is a deep-seated peace and a new desire for the things of God.
Second, there is the outward evidence. A life that has been touched by the grace of Jesus cannot stay the same. While we are not saved by our works, we are saved for good works. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us that grace is the source, but the result is a life of "righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:24). This transformation is a light that shines to everyone around you, showing the power of the Gospel in action.
If you have questions about how these truths fit into the character of God, you might find our study on the nature of the Trinity helpful as you see how the Father, Son, and Spirit work together for your redemption.
A Prayer for Your Journey
Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your salvation is not limited by borders, languages, or past mistakes. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, whose blood washes us clean. I pray for the one reading this right now: may they feel the witness of Your Spirit today. Grant them the courage to repent, the strength to trust, and the joy of knowing they are an heir to eternal life. Lead us as we walk this path of holiness together. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is salvation really free, or do I have to do something first? Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8). You cannot earn it through good deeds or religious rituals. The only "requirement" is to receive it through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
What does it mean to be 'born again'? Being born again, or regeneration, is the spiritual transformation that happens when the Holy Spirit gives new life to your spirit. It is the beginning of a personal relationship with God.
Can I lose my salvation if I make a mistake? Our assurance rests on the finished work of Christ and the ongoing witness of the Spirit. While we all stumble, a heart that is truly surrendered to Christ will continue to grow in holiness and repentance. God is faithful to keep those who trust in Him.
Do I need to go to a physical church to be saved? Salvation is a personal transaction between you and God. While community is vital for growth, you can receive Jesus anywhere in the world. Boundless Online Church exists to provide that community for those who may not have access to a local building.
