Bible Study: What are the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God?

A Message from FA Memphis

The 16 Fundamental Truths are the core biblical doctrines of the Assemblies of God, including salvation, divine healing, and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Boundless Online Church provides an online Bible study platform to help you master these scriptural foundations and grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Bible Verses:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." , 2 Timothy 3:16-17

"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God." , Hebrews 6:1

The Foundation of Your Faith

Welcome home! I am so glad you’re here. If you’ve ever felt like the world is shifting beneath your feet, you aren't alone. We live in a culture that often treats truth like a suggestion rather than a foundation. But as we walk with Jesus, we need something solid to stand on. That is exactly what the 16 Fundamental Truths provide. They aren't just dry theological statements; they are the heart of our relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In my own life, I’ve found that whenever I feel confused or overwhelmed, returning to these basics brings immediate peace.

When we talk about our faith, we have to be clear: the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. These truths keep us from veering off into confusion and help us stay focused on the mission Jesus gave us. They remind us that you are never forgotten, never alone, and deeply loved by God.

Truths 1-3: Our Core Reality

Everything starts with the Word. We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God. This means the Bible is our ultimate rule for how we live and what we believe. When we are looking for entertainment for our families, we look to the Word for guidance on purity. That’s why I always recommend using family-safe options like VidAngel or "Enjoy Movies Your Way" to keep your home a sanctuary. To protect our hearts and minds in a digital age, tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes are essential for staying accountable to the truths we find in Scripture.

We also serve the One True God, revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This Trinity is at the heart of our worship. Closely tied to this is the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus isn't just a good teacher; He is God in the flesh, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose again. He is the only way to the Father, and that is a truth we hold onto with everything we have.

Truths 4-6: The Need and the Solution

We have to be honest about our condition: Truth 4 tells us about the Fall of Man. We all missed the mark, and sin separated us from God. But Truth 5 is the best news ever: Salvation. Through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, we are made new. Salvation is a gift of grace, you can't earn it, and you don't have to be "perfect" to receive it. Jesus meets you right where you are.

Truth 6 points us to the Ordinances of the Church: Water Baptism and Holy Communion. These are outward signs of the inward work God is doing in us. When we go under the water, we are telling the world we are dead to our old life and alive in Christ. When we take communion, we remember His sacrifice until He returns.

Truths 7-9: The Empowered Life

Walking with Jesus isn't something we do in our own strength. Truth 7 is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This is an experience distinct from salvation that gives us power for life and service. Truth 8 identifies the initial physical evidence of this baptism as speaking in other tongues. This isn't just a "denominational thing"; it’s a biblical promise for every believer to be empowered as a witness.

Truth 9 is Sanctification. This is the lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus. It’s about being set apart from the world and dedicated to God. It involves making choices every day, from the conversations we have to the media we consume, that reflect His holiness. Remember, you aren't doing this alone; the Spirit is your helper.

Truths 10-11: Our Purpose and Mission

We aren't just saved *from* something; we are saved *for* something. Truth 10 explains the Church and its Mission. The church is the body of Christ, meant to worship God, build up believers, and reach the world. Truth 11 highlights the Ministry, leaders called by God to help us grow and accomplish that mission. Whether you are unchurched, homebound, or a global seeker, you have a place in this mission. Boundless Online Church is here to make sure you have the resources, prayer, and community you need to fulfill your calling.

Truths 12-16: Our Hope for the Future

As we look ahead, we have incredible promises. Truth 12 is Divine Healing. We believe God still heals the sick today through the atonement of Jesus. Truth 13 is the Blessed Hope, the Rapture of the Church. Jesus is coming back for His people! This is followed by Truth 14, the Millennial Reign of Christ, where He will rule on earth in peace for a thousand years.

Truth 15 reminds us of the Final Judgment. Every wrong will be made right. Finally, Truth 16 gives us the ultimate "welcome home": The New Heavens and the New Earth. We will spend eternity in perfect fellowship with God, where there is no more pain, sorrow, or death. This is the future that awaits every person who puts their trust in Jesus.
