1. View Trials as Training, Not Punishment

One of the biggest hurdles to maturity is believing that hard times mean God is mad at us. But James 1:2-4 tells us to "count it all joy" when we face trials because the testing of our faith produces perseverance. When we view trials as training, we stop asking "Why is this happening to me?" and start asking "What are You teaching me?" This shift changes you from a victim of your circumstances into a student of the Holy Spirit.

2. Make the Choice: No Bowing Down

In Daniel chapter 3, three young men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced a literal furnace. They were told to bow down to an idol or face the fire. • 1 Peter 1:6-7:"In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith, of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire, may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

• Romans 5:3-5:"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

• Isaiah 43:2:"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

• 2 Corinthians 4:17:"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

A Pastoral Prayer for the Fire

Lord, I pray for my friend reading this right now. You know the weight they are carrying. You know the heat of the fire they are standing in. I ask that You would give them the strength to stand tall and the wisdom to see Your hand at work. Remind them that they are not alone, that You are walking with them in the flames. Refine them, grow them, and fill them with a peace that doesn't make sense to the world. We trust Your character and Your timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
