Bible Study: What Does the Qur'an Actually Say About Jesus?

Many Muslims are surprised to learn that the Qur’an speaks about Jesus with unusual honor, including His virgin birth, miracles, purity, and return. These shared truths do not erase important differences, but they can open respectful, honest conversations that point people toward the fuller biblical revelation of who Jesus truly is.

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14). The Qur’an’s account of Mary and the virgin birth can be a meaningful starting point for conversation. Christians do not see the virgin birth as a small detail. We see it as a sign of God’s saving plan unfolding in history. Matthew 1 and Luke 1 show that Jesus did not arrive like any other person. He came by God’s power and for God’s purpose. When someone already believes Jesus was born of a virgin, that can become a gentle bridge to ask why His birth was so unique and what God was revealing through it.

"Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?'" (John 10:32). The Qur’an also describes Jesus performing miracles by God’s permission. The Bible shows these miracles as signs that reveal His authority, compassion, and identity. He healed the sick, opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers, and raised the dead. These are not random wonders. They show that Jesus has power over sickness, brokenness, and even death itself. That matters pastorally too, because people carrying pain, fear, or disappointment need to know Jesus is not distant from human suffering.

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are: yet he did not sin" (Hebrews 4:15). Many Muslims may not realize how significant it is that Jesus is described with purity. The Bible makes His sinlessness even clearer. Jesus did not merely live better than others. He lived without sin. That is why He alone could stand in our place. A flawed savior cannot rescue a flawed world. The holiness of Jesus is not meant to push us away in shame. It is meant to draw us near to the only Savior who is pure enough to save and loving enough to welcome sinners.

"This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11). The Qur’an’s expectation of Jesus’ return creates another important bridge. Christians believe His return is not a side note. It is part of the good news that history is moving somewhere, justice will not sleep forever, and Christ will reign. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we hold to the Blessed Hope and the coming of the Lord with confidence and joy. The return of Jesus reminds us that every conversation about Him is urgent, loving, and deeply important.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Shared beliefs can open the door, but the Bible leads us further. Jesus is not only virgin-born, miracle-working, pure, and returning. He is the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again. That is where the bridge leads. Respectful conversation matters, but so does clarity. We honor people best when we speak with both kindness and truth. If someone is sincerely exploring Jesus, do not stop at comparison. Keep going until you reach the cross, the resurrection, and the invitation to trust Him personally.

Father, thank You for helping us speak about Jesus with love, wisdom, and courage. Give us grace to build respectful bridges and faithfulness to share the truth clearly. Open hearts to see the beauty, holiness, and saving power of Your Son. Let every searching person be drawn closer to Jesus today. In His name, amen.
