Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study - The Public 'Yes' and the Living Memory

Hey there, and welcome to Day 12 of our Global Micro-Study. We are so glad you’ve carved out a few minutes to be here. Whether you are reading this in a quiet house before the kids wake up, sitting in a breakroom on a 12-hour shift, or scrolling through this in a place where following Jesus isn't exactly easy, we see you.
Today, we are diving into something very special. In the Assemblies of God, we call these the "Ordinances of the Church." That sounds like a heavy, legal word, doesn’t it? But really, it just refers to two very specific things Jesus told us to do: Water Baptism and Holy Communion.
These aren't just traditions. They are markers. They are the moments where our faith moves from our hearts into our hands and our actions. They are the public "Yes" and the living memory of what Jesus did for us.
The Public 'Yes': Water Baptism
Let’s talk about baptism first. If you’ve ever seen someone get baptized, you know it’s a powerful moment. In our tradition, we believe in baptism by immersion. That means going all the way under the water and coming back up.
Why do we do it that way? Because it’s a physical picture of a spiritual reality.
When you go under the water, it symbolizes the "old you" dying and being buried with Christ. When you come up out of the water, it symbolizes you rising to a brand-new life. It is your way of telling the world, "I don’t belong to my past anymore. I belong to Jesus."

For many of you in our Boundless community, a physical baptism might feel complicated. Maybe you are a caregiver who can’t leave the house for long, or you are living in a region where a public gathering for baptism is dangerous.
Here is what you need to know: The water doesn’t save you, Jesus does. But the "Yes" matters. Baptism is an act of obedience. It is your first public declaration that you have decided to follow Jesus. If you haven't been baptized yet, we encourage you to make it a priority. It’s the outward sign of the inward change that has already happened in your heart.
If you are wondering how to make this happen in your specific situation, check out our guide on how to get plugged in fast to find community and support for these big steps of faith.
The Living Memory: Holy Communion
The second ordinance is Holy Communion, or the Lord’s Supper. This consists of two elements: the bread and the juice.
Jesus started this during His last meal with His disciples. He took the bread, broke it, and said, "This is my body, which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me." Then He took the cup and said it represented the new covenant in His blood.
When we take Communion, we are doing three things:
We are looking back. We remember the cross. We remember that Jesus took the stripes on His back for our healing and gave His life so we could have eternal life.
We are looking inward. It’s a time to check our hearts, to ask for forgiveness, and to make sure we are walking in unity with our brothers and sisters.
We are looking forward. The Bible says we do this "until He comes." Every time we take that small piece of bread and that sip of juice, we are reminding ourselves that Jesus is coming back. The story isn't over.

Why This Matters for the Weary and the Waiting
I want to talk specifically to those of you who feel like life is a constant uphill battle.
If you are a shift worker, your schedule might make it impossible to attend a traditional Sunday morning service where Communion is served. If you are a caregiver, you might feel like your world has shrunk to the size of a single room.
The beauty of these ordinances is that they connect you to the global Body of Christ, regardless of your location or your clock. When you take Communion, even if you are sitting alone at a kitchen table at 2 AM, you are participating in a meal that millions of believers across the globe are also sharing. You are not alone.
Jesus chose simple things, water, bread, and juice, because He knew we would always have access to the simple things. He wanted His grace to be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
For our friends in persecuted areas, these acts are even more profound. A "Public Yes" through baptism might have to be done in secret, in a bathtub or a river in the middle of the night. Communion might be shared with just one other person using whatever is available.
In those moments, the presence of God is just as real as it is in a cathedral with thousands of people.
The Heart of the Message: Jesus Paid it All
Everything we talk about in these studies comes back to one central truth: Jesus paid the price for your freedom.
He didn't just offer a philosophy or a set of rules. He offered Himself. He stood in our place, took our shame, and broke the power of sin and death. Taking the steps of baptism and participating in Communion are how we honor that gift. It’s how we keep the memory of His sacrifice alive in our daily lives.
If you haven't made that decision yet, to say "Yes" to Jesus, today is a great day to start. You don't have to have your life all figured out. You don't have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to follow Him.

Growing Together
We know that growing in faith online can sometimes feel like a solo journey, but it doesn't have to be. We have resources to help you navigate these big questions. If you want to dive deeper into how to lead your family in these truths, you might find our post on transforming family dynamics through daily study really helpful.
The goal of this Global Micro-Study isn't just to give you information. It’s to help you experience the transformation that comes from knowing Christ.
Whether you are in Memphis or Mumbai, you are part of this community. We are walking this path together, learning what it means to live out the "Public Yes" every single day.
Keep Moving Forward
Don't let the simplicity of these ordinances cause you to miss their power.
Baptism is your declaration of identity.
Communion is your declaration of dependence.
Both are essential for a healthy, growing walk with God. As we continue through these 16 Fundamental Truths, we hope you feel encouraged and empowered. God is for you. He is with you in the hospital room, the warehouse, the office, and the hidden corners of the world.
