Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study - Day 17: The Great Commission

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m just trying to make it through today… how am I supposed to change the world?”: you’re in the right place.

Day 17 is about The Great Commission and the mission of the Church (Assemblies of God Fundamental Truth #10). This isn’t pressure. It’s purpose.

And it’s for you: whether you’re on a night shift, home with a loved one who needs constant care, living with chronic pain, or quietly following Jesus in a place where faith can cost you something.

The Great Commission (The Assignment Jesus Gave the Church)

Jesus said:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” : Matthew 28:19–20

Here’s a simple way to say it:

Jesus sends His people to help people meet Him, follow Him, and keep following Him. Everywhere.

The Church doesn’t exist just to gather.

The Church exists to go: into neighborhoods, group chats, workplaces, family systems, hospitals, dorms, prisons, refugee camps, and closed countries.

And Jesus ends this mission statement with a promise you can lean on when you’re exhausted:

“I am with you always.”

The Main Verb: “Make Disciples” (Not “Go Far Away”)

Sometimes people hear “Go” and picture international flights, big budgets, and special callings.

But in the original language of Matthew 28, the central command is really this:

Make disciples.

“Go,” “baptize,” and “teach” describe how disciples are made.

So if your life feels limited right now, hear this clearly:

You can fulfill the Great Commission without leaving your home. You can live on mission without being loud. You can make disciples without a stage.

Disciple-making can look like:

  • praying with a coworker who’s falling apart inside

  • sending one Scripture to a friend who is losing hope

  • helping a new believer understand how to read the Bible

  • telling your story of how Jesus saved you

  • choosing integrity and kindness in a workplace that rewards the opposite

The mission is global, but it’s also personal.

Why the Great Commission Is Still “Great” in 2026

The world is more connected than ever… and more isolated than ever.

People can livestream a worship service from anywhere: and still feel completely unseen.

They can scroll for hours: and still wonder, “Does my life matter?”

They can survive trauma: and still not know there’s a Savior who heals and restores.

That’s why the Great Commission remains urgent:

  • Because people are still lost.

  • Because Jesus still saves.

  • Because the Church is still His plan.

Not a political plan. Not a marketing plan. Not a self-improvement plan.

A rescue plan.

Jesus described His own mission like this:

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” : Luke 19:10

And now He sends His Church: Spirit-empowered: to carry that same rescue message to the world.

Fundamental Truth #10: The Mission of the Church (In Real Life)

Assemblies of God Fundamental Truth #10 teaches that the Church exists to:

  • Evangelize (reach people who don’t know Jesus)

  • Worship God

  • Disciple believers (help them grow)

  • Show compassion (serve people in Jesus’ name)

That means “mission” isn’t a department in the Church.

Mission is the Church.

So if you’re asking, “What am I supposed to do as part of the Church?”: here are three simple handles you can grab today.

1) Evangelize: Share Jesus Clearly (Not Perfectly)

Evangelism doesn’t mean you have to win arguments online.

It means you bring Jesus into the conversation with humility and courage.

A simple way to share the gospel in everyday words:

  • God made you and loves you.

  • Sin separates us from God.

  • Jesus died and rose again to save us.

  • We respond by repenting and trusting Him.

  • He forgives us, makes us new, and leads us as Lord.

If you can say that in your own words, you can share Jesus.

If you can’t yet, that’s okay: start by telling your story:

  • who you were

  • what changed when you met Jesus

  • what He’s doing in you now

Your story matters in the Great Commission.

2) Disciple: Help Someone Take One Next Step

Discipleship is not information-only. Jesus said we teach people to observe (obey) what He commanded.

That’s not control. It’s love.

Because Jesus’ commands don’t crush people: they free people.

Discipleship can be as simple as:

  • reading one chapter of the Bible with someone

  • checking in weekly: “How can I pray for you?”

  • helping someone learn to forgive

  • helping someone break with old habits and build new ones

  • teaching someone how to pray honestly

And if you feel like, “I’m not mature enough to disciple anyone,” remember:

You don’t need to be an expert.

You just need to be one step ahead and willing to walk with someone.

3) Compassion: Show the Kingdom With Your Hands

Jesus didn’t only preach. He fed, healed, touched lepers, lifted women up, and welcomed children.

Compassion is part of mission: not optional, not “extra credit.”

Compassion can look like:

  • listening without rushing

  • giving what you can (even if it’s small)

  • being present with the grieving

  • helping someone navigate a hard season

  • praying for healing and standing with the suffering

In Spirit-empowered Christianity, compassion and gospel proclamation belong together.

Global Focus: “All Nations” Means All People Groups

Jesus said “all nations.” That’s not just passports and borders.

It includes every people group, language, and culture.

God’s heart has always been global. Even way back in Genesis, God promised Abraham:

“In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” : Genesis 12:3

The Great Commission is the continuation of that promise: God’s salvation reaching “the ends of the earth.”

So when you pray for the nations, give toward missions, welcome immigrants, encourage missionaries, or share Jesus across cultural lines: you’re not doing a side mission.

You’re participating in God’s big plan.

For Shift Workers, Caregivers, Disabled Believers, and the Persecuted: You’re Not Disqualified

Let’s get really practical for the people this series is written for.

If you work odd hours

Your schedule might feel like a barrier. But it can also be your mission field.

  • You’re with people others don’t see.

  • You carry calm into chaotic places.

  • Your consistency builds trust over time.

A simple prayer before a shift:

“Jesus, make me aware of one person I can encourage today.”

If you’re a caregiver

Caregiving can feel hidden. But the kingdom is full of “hidden” faithfulness.

  • Your compassion reflects Jesus.

  • Your patience is worship.

  • Your love is a witness.

Sometimes your Great Commission moment is simply this:

Being gentle when you’re tired.

Choosing prayer instead of bitterness.

Holding onto hope.

If you live with disability or chronic illness

You may not be able to “go” the way others do. But disciple-making isn’t limited to physical mobility.

You can:

  • pray strategically for the lost

  • encourage others with what God is teaching you

  • build friendships online that point to Jesus

  • share Scripture and hope from a real place

Your life can preach, even on the days your body won’t cooperate.

If you’re in a persecuted or unsafe place

You are seen by God.

The Great Commission does not demand reckless exposure. It calls for faithful witness.

Sometimes that witness is quiet:

  • a whispered prayer

  • a trusted conversation

  • a small gathering

  • obedience in private when it costs you

Jesus’ promise still holds: “I am with you always.”

The Power Source: Authority + Presence + Spirit

Jesus doesn’t send you out with motivational quotes. He sends you out with reality:

His authority

Meaning: the mission rests on Jesus’ power, not yours.

His presence

Meaning: you’re not doing this alone.

His Spirit

Meaning: the Holy Spirit empowers normal believers to witness with courage, love, wisdom, and spiritual gifts.

If you’re running on empty, the answer isn’t “try harder.”

It’s: come close again. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and lead you.

A 10-Minute Micro-Practice for Today (Doable, Anywhere)

Try this today: no special setup needed.

Step 1: Read (2 minutes)

Read Matthew 28:18–20 slowly.

Step 2: Ask (2 minutes)

Ask: “Jesus, who is one person you want me to love toward You?”

Step 3: Pray (3 minutes)

Pray for that person by name.

  • for protection

  • for clarity

  • for a soft heart

  • for an open door

Step 4: Act (3 minutes)

Do one small action:

  • send an encouraging message

  • offer prayer

  • share a verse

  • invite them to worship online

  • apologize if you need to make something right

Small obedience is still obedience.

How Digital Ministry Fits the Great Commission

A lot of people can’t attend church in person. Some physically can’t. Some can’t safely. Some can’t consistently.

That’s not a spiritual failure: it’s a reality.

And it’s why digital ministry matters.

Boundless Online Church exists for people in real situations: late shifts, chronic illness, caregiving, distance, anxiety, disability, persecution, and spiritual searching.

If gathering in a room isn’t possible right now, you can still gather as the Church online.

A Simple Question to Sit With Today

Where has Jesus already placed me… that I’ve been calling “ordinary”?

That might be the exact place He wants to make disciples through your life.

You don’t have to do everything.

Just take the next faithful step.
