Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study - Day 21: Divine Healing

Welcome back to Day 21 of our Global Micro-Study. If you’ve been following along, you know we are journeying through the core beliefs that shape our faith. Today, we are leaning into a topic that is deeply personal, often misunderstood, and incredibly powerful: Divine Healing.

For many of us, this isn't just a theological concept. It’s a lived experience. It’s the prayer whispered in a hospital room at 3:00 AM. It’s the hope we hold onto when a diagnosis feels final. At Boundless Online Church, we serve a global community, many of whom are homebound, serving as caregivers, or navigating chronic illness. If that’s you, know that today’s study is written with you in heart and mind.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. Let’s look at what God’s Word says about His power to heal.

What is Divine Healing?

In the Assemblies of God tradition, we recognize Divine Healing as one of our 16 Fundamental Truths. Specifically, Truth #12 states: "Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers."

That sounds very official, doesn’t it? But let’s break it down into plain English.

When we say healing is "provided for in the atonement," we are saying that when Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He didn't just deal with our sins. He dealt with the brokenness of the entire human condition. Because of what Jesus did, healing is available to us today. It isn't just a "bonus" feature of Christianity; it is woven into the very fabric of the Good News.

The Biblical Foundation: Why We Believe

Our belief in divine healing isn't based on wishful thinking. It’s rooted in the character of God and the promises of Scripture.

The Prophecy of Isaiah

Centuries before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah wrote these words: "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4-5)

Notice the language there. It links our peace and our healing directly to the sacrifice of Jesus. When He took those stripes on His back, He was making a way for our restoration.

The Ministry of Jesus

If you want to know what God thinks about sickness, look at Jesus. Throughout the Gospels, we see Him constantly moved with compassion. He didn’t just preach; He healed. He restored sight to the blind, made the lame walk, and cleansed the lepers.

Matthew 8:16-17 tells us, "He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.'"

Jesus didn’t view sickness as a natural part of life that we just have to accept. He viewed it as an enemy, a result of the world's brokenness, and He moved against it with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Healing in the Modern World

You might be thinking, "That was 2,000 years ago. Does God still do that today?"

The answer is a resounding yes. Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." If He was a Healer then, He is a Healer now.

At Boundless Online Church, we see this as a vital part of our mission. We are a digital church serving those who cannot attend in person. For many in our community, physical limitations are a daily reality. We believe that God’s power isn't confined to a physical building or a specific geographic location. Whether you are in a high-rise apartment, a hospital bed, or a remote village, the Great Physician is present with you.

How Do We Receive Healing?

The Bible gives us practical instructions on how to seek God’s healing touch. In James 5:14-15, we find a clear "how-to" for the church:

"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up."

In an online environment, "calling the elders" looks a little different, but the principle remains the same. It’s about reaching out for community and prayer. It’s about the "prayer of faith."

We encourage you to use our Prayer Wall to share your needs. There is something powerful about knowing that believers across the globe are standing with you, petitioning Heaven on your behalf.

The Tension: When Healing Doesn't Look Like We Expect

We have to be honest and compassionate here. We have all prayed for healing and seen the answer look different than what we hoped for. Some are healed instantly (miracles). Some are healed over time (medical providence). And some find their ultimate healing when they step into eternity with Christ.

Living in the "not yet" is one of the hardest parts of the Christian walk. If you are struggling with a chronic condition or watching a loved one suffer, please hear this: Sickness is not a sign of God’s displeasure, and a lack of immediate healing is not necessarily a sign of a lack of faith.

We live in a fallen world, but we serve a God who promises to be "near to the brokenhearted." Divine healing is our privilege, but we also trust in God’s sovereignty and His perfect timing. Even while we pray for physical restoration, we ask for the "peace that passes all understanding" to guard our hearts.

Why This Matters for You Today

Divine healing is about more than just physical bodies. It’s about God’s desire for wholeness. He cares about your mental health, your emotional wounds, and your spiritual vitality.

If you are feeling weary, let this truth sink in: God is interested in your well-being. He is not distant or indifferent to your pain. He is the God who heals.

As we wrap up Day 21, I want to invite you to take a moment of stillness. Wherever you are: perhaps you're a night-shift worker taking a break, or a caregiver finally finding a moment of quiet: reach out to Him. You don't need fancy words. Just a simple, "Lord, I need Your touch today."
