Boundless Daily: Holy Living in a Digital Age

It’s 7:00 AM.
Before your feet even hit the floor, your hand reaches for your phone.
The blue light hits your eyes before the sunlight does. Within seconds, you are flooded with notifications, headlines, memes, and emails. In those first few moments of the day, your mind is already being shaped by the digital world.
For many of us, the digital age isn't just a part of life; it is life. We work, study, socialize, and even attend church in digital spaces. But as followers of Christ, we face a unique challenge: How do we live a holy life in a world that never logs off?
Holiness can feel like an "old school" word. It sounds like something reserved for monks in a desert or people living in a time before the internet. But holiness is just as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that your digital life and your spiritual life shouldn't be two separate things. God is interested in your heart, whether you are sitting in a pew or scrolling through a feed.
What Does "Holy" Even Mean?
When we talk about holiness, we aren't talking about being perfect or better than everyone else.
In the Bible, holiness simply means being "set apart." It’s about being dedicated to God’s purposes rather than the world’s patterns. In the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, we focus on "Sanctification."
Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s not just about saying "no" to bad things; it’s about saying "yes" to a better way of living.
Living a holy life in a digital age means making a conscious choice to let the Holy Spirit lead your online interactions. It means your "digital footprint" should look a lot like the footsteps of Jesus.

The Battle for the Heart (and the Algorithm)
We have to be honest: the digital world isn't neutral.
Algorithms are designed to keep us scrolling, often by feeding us things that spark anger, envy, or lust. The "attention economy" wants your time, but God wants your heart.
Purity in a digital age starts with what we allow into our eyes and minds. Proverbs 4:23 tells us, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
If our feeds are filled with comparison, gossip, or inappropriate content, it becomes very difficult to live the life God has called us to. Purity isn't just about avoiding "the big sins." It’s about the small compromises we make every day.
Ask yourself:
Does this account I follow bring me closer to peace or closer to anxiety?
Is this comment I'm about to post filled with grace, or am I just trying to "win" an argument?
Am I using my screen time to escape reality, or to enhance my service to God?
The Power to Change
If this sounds hard, that’s because it is. In our own strength, we can't maintain digital purity or live a truly holy life. We need help.
This is where the Baptism in the Holy Spirit comes in. We believe this experience gives us the power to witness and the strength to live for God. The same Spirit that empowered the early church is available to you right now, behind your screen.
The Holy Spirit acts as a "digital compass." When you are about to click something you shouldn't, or when you feel the urge to lash out in a comment section, the Spirit provides that gentle nudge, that "still, small voice", reminding you who you belong to.

Digital Purpose: More Than a "Like"
Holiness isn't just about what we don't do. It’s also about what we do.
God has given us these digital tools for a reason. We are called to fulfill the Great Commission, and today, that commission extends into the digital frontier. Your purpose online is to be a light.
Think about the impact you can have:
Sharing a word of encouragement with someone who is hurting.
Using your platform to stand up for justice and truth.
Inviting a friend to check out our online programs.
Pointing people toward the hope found in Jesus.
When we live with purpose, the digital world stops being a distraction and starts being a ministry. You are a content creator for the Kingdom of God, even if you only have five followers. Your "likes" and "shares" can be seeds of faith planted in someone else's life.
The Most Important Connection
You might be reading this and feeling a bit overwhelmed. Maybe you’ve made mistakes online. Maybe you feel like your digital habits have pulled you away from God.
Here is the good news: God’s grace is bigger than your browser history.
We all fall short. We all get distracted. But God loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to bridge the gap between us and Him. Jesus lived a perfect, holy life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again so that we could have a fresh start.
This is the Gospel, the Good News. Salvation isn't something you earn by being "good" online. It’s a free gift you receive by trusting in Jesus.
If you want to know more about starting a relationship with Him, we invite you to visit our I'm New page. Meeting Jesus is the most important "connection" you will ever make. It’s the update your soul has been waiting for.

Practical Steps for a Holy Digital Life
Living a set-apart life takes practice. Here are a few ways to start today:
Morning First Fruits: Give God the first moments of your day. Before you check your phone, spend five minutes in prayer or reading the Word.
Audit Your Feed: Go through your following list. If an account consistently makes you feel bad, envious, or tempted, hit "unfollow." You don't need that noise in your life.
Digital Sabbath: Set aside a few hours (or a whole day) each week to put the screens away. Reconnect with God and the people physically around you.
Practice the "Pause": Before you post, ask: Is it true? Is it kind? Does it honor God?
Stay Connected to Community: Don't do life alone. Join a Bible study or listen to a podcast that builds your faith.
