Christian Living: How Do I Experience God’s Power Daily?

To experience God’s power daily, you must maintain a consistent, surrendered relationship with the Holy Spirit. By prioritizing morning prayer, immersing yourself in Scripture, and seeking the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, you invite supernatural peace, wisdom, and strength into every aspect of your routine.

Walking in the Spirit isn’t just for Sunday mornings or large conferences at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. It is a moment-by-moment lifestyle available to every believer in the 901 and beyond. Whether you are navigating traffic on I-40 or leading a team in downtown Memphis, the Holy Spirit wants to be your constant Partner and Guide.

When we talk about "God’s power," we aren't talking about a vague "force." We are talking about the Person of the Holy Spirit living within you, empowering you to live a life that reflects Jesus. This is the heart of the Pentecostal experience, moving from religious tradition into a vibrant, powerful relationship with the living God.

Defining the Foundations

Before we dive into the daily steps, it’s helpful to understand a few core biblical terms that define our walk with the Spirit:

Term

Biblical Definition

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

An experience subsequent to salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, as seen in Acts 2.

Sanctification

The ongoing process of being set apart for God and growing in Christlike character through the Spirit's work.

Divine Healing

God's supernatural intervention to bring health to the body, provided for in the atonement of Christ.

5 Steps to Living a Spirit-Led Life in Memphis

1. Start with a Morning Surrender

The easiest way to lose track of God’s power is to try and carry the weight of your day on your own shoulders. The Spirit-led life begins the second your feet hit the floor. Before you check your notifications or look at the local news, take sixty seconds to surrender.

A simple prayer like, "Holy Spirit, I surrender this day to You. Lead my thoughts and my words," shifts your posture from "I can do this" to "God, I need You." This act of surrender opens the door for Him to interrupt your plans with His better ones. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe that being "filled with the Spirit" isn't a one-time event, but an ongoing command to be continually filled (Ephesians 5:18).

2. Get Your "Map" from the Word

You cannot be led by the Spirit if you aren’t listening to what He has already said. The Holy Spirit is the Author of Scripture, and He will never lead you in a direction that contradicts the Bible.

Living in Memphis, or anywhere else, means being bombarded with different opinions, cultural pressures, and noise. Immersing yourself in the Word acts as a spiritual filter. Try starting your day with one chapter of the Gospels or the Book of Acts. Ask the Holy Spirit, "What are You highlighting for me today?" When you read the Word with the Author, the text stops being just history and starts being a living map for your Tuesday afternoon.

3. Seek the Baptism in the Holy Spirit for Daily Power

There is a difference between having the Spirit within you (salvation) and having the Spirit’s power upon you for service. In the Assemblies of God, we emphasize the Baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience that gives us "boldness" (Acts 1:8).

If you’ve experienced this baptism, use your prayer language (speaking in tongues) throughout the day. It builds up your spirit (1 Corinthians 14:4) and helps you pray when you don't know what to say. If you haven't experienced this yet, simply ask! God is a good Father who gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. This isn't about "feeling weird"; it's about being equipped with supernatural strength to face life’s challenges.

4. Respond to Daily Promptings in the 901

God’s power is often found in the small, "still small voice" promptings. Maybe it’s a nudge to call a friend in Cordova who has been on your mind, or an impulse to pay for the coffee of the person behind you in the drive-thru.

When you sense these nudges, act on them! A Spirit-led life is an active one. The more you obey the small promptings, the more sensitive you become to the Spirit's voice in big decisions. Whether you're in Bartlett, Arlington, or Collierville, God wants to use you as a vessel of His grace to the people around you. This is how the "fruit of the Spirit", love, joy, peace, and patience, becomes visible to your neighbors.

5. Review and Reflect Before You Sleep

At the end of the day, take five minutes to sit with the Lord. This isn't about self-condemnation; it’s about reflection. Ask yourself:

  • Where did I see God working today?

  • Was there a time I ignored the Spirit’s prompting?

  • How can I be more sensitive tomorrow?

This practice of reflection helps with the process of sanctification. It allows the Holy Spirit to refine your character and prepare you for a fresh filling the next morning. It turns your daily experiences into a spiritual classroom.

Practical Ways to Stay Connected

Staying "switched on" to the Spirit requires community. You weren't meant to do this alone. Here are a few ways to keep the fire burning:

  • Join a Life Group: Whether in-person in Memphis or virtually, sharing life with other believers keeps you accountable and encouraged.

  • Attend Mid-Week Prayer: There is something powerful about corporate prayer that recharges your spiritual battery.

  • Worship Daily: Put on a playlist while you're at the gym or in the car. Worship clears the "spiritual atmosphere" around you.

  • Serve Others: The Spirit’s power is given for service. When you help others, you’ll often find God’s power flowing through you more clearly.
