Daily Micro-Study: Faith in the Waiting

A Message from FA Memphis

Finding strength while waiting for change is a universal challenge, especially for those in isolation or demanding roles. This micro-study explores how the Holy Spirit empowers believers to endure seasons of delay with hope. Grounded in Isaiah 40:31 and Assemblies of God doctrine, we discover that waiting isn’t passive: it’s a Spirit-led preparation for the strength God promises to those who trust His timing.

The Word

"But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." : Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

The Reality of the Wait

Waiting isn't just a gap between where you are and where you want to be. For many in our Boundless community, waiting is the environment you live in every single day.

Maybe you’re working the graveyard shift in a quiet warehouse, wondering when your career will finally take flight.

Maybe you’re a caregiver sitting in a dimly lit room, waiting for a loved one’s breathing to steady or for a miracle that seems delayed.

Maybe you are living in a part of the world where practicing your faith openly is a dream you’re still waiting to realize.

We often think of waiting as "wasted time." We feel like life is on pause. But in the Kingdom of God, waiting is active. It is a posture of the heart that says, "I don't see the finish line yet, but I know who holds the clock."

Power in the Pause: A Spirit-Led Endurance

At Boundless Online Church, we hold to the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. Specifically, Truth #7 speaks to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Often, people think of this empowerment only in terms of "big" moments: preaching to crowds or performing signs and wonders. But there is a profound "power for service" that manifests in the quiet, grueling seasons of waiting.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and our Advocate. When your own strength hits a wall at 3:00 AM, the Spirit provides a supernatural "second wind." This isn't just about feeling better; it’s about the divine empowerment to keep serving, keep loving, and keep believing even when the circumstances haven't changed an inch.

If you’ve ever wondered what it means to be Pentecostal in the middle of a mundane or difficult wait, it means you have access to a Resident Power that sustains you when the world says you should have quit long ago. You can learn more about this in our post on what it means to be Pentecostal.

Micro-Study: Finding Strength in the Margins

We know your schedule is packed or your energy is low. That’s why we use the "micro-study" format. It’s based on the idea that consistency beats intensity. Meeting God for ten minutes every day is often more life-changing than a two-hour session once a month.

1. Shift Your Perspective

Instead of asking "When will this end?", try asking "What is the Spirit producing in me right now?" Waiting is the soil where patience, long-suffering, and trust grow. These aren't just "nice" traits; they are the fruit of the Spirit that make you look more like Jesus.

2. Renew Through the Word

Isaiah 40:31 doesn't say those who wait will just "get by." It says they will renew their strength. In the original language, that word "renew" means to exchange. You give God your weakness, and He gives you His strength.

3. Practical Waiting

If you are a shift worker or a caregiver, use the "dead space" of your day to connect with the Father. Use our Prayer Wall to post a quick request or to pray for someone else during your break. When you pray for others while you are in your own "waiting room," you are engaging in Spirit-empowered service.

A Global Community in the Shadows

Boundless is a global church. As you read this, there is a brother or sister in a restricted nation who is waiting for the freedom to own a Bible. There is a believer in a hospital bed waiting for news from a doctor.

You are not waiting alone.

We are a "Boundless" family because the Spirit of God ignores physical borders and time zones. Whether you are tuning in from Memphis or Manila, the same Holy Spirit that empowered the early church is available to you right now.

The Gospel: Our Enduring Hope

The ultimate "waiting" story in the Bible is the story of the Gospel. For centuries, the world waited for a Savior. There were 400 years of silence between the Old and New Testaments. People lived, died, and hoped without seeing the promise fulfilled.

But God was not idle. He was preparing the world for the arrival of Jesus.

If you feel like God is silent in your life right now, remember that silence is not absence. The Gospel is the proof that God keeps His word. Jesus came, He died for our sins, He rose again, and now He has sent the Holy Spirit to be with us until He returns.

Our hope isn't based on our circumstances changing tomorrow. Our hope is based on the fact that the tomb is empty today. That is the "waiting with purpose" we talk about in our Boundless Daily series.

Living It Out This Week

How do we practically "wait on the Lord" this week?

  1. Identify your "Waiting Room": What is the one thing you are most anxious to see change? Name it.

  2. Surrender the Clock: Tell God, "I trust Your timing more than my schedule."

  3. Ask for the Spirit’s Help: Specifically ask for the empowerment described in AG Truth #7: not just for a miracle, but for the strength to represent Jesus well while you wait.

  4. Connect with the Body: Don't isolate. Visit our Sunday Sermons page to be encouraged by the Word with others.

If you are new here and trying to figure out where you fit in, we have a Welcome Center Q&A just for you.

A Prayer for the Wait

Heavenly Father, we come to You today acknowledging that waiting is hard. For those of us on the night shift, those of us in hospital rooms, and those of us facing persecution, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit. Give us the "calm power" that comes from knowing You are in control.

Lord, renew our strength today. Help us to mount up with wings like eagles. When we feel like we are fainting, catch us. When we feel weary, carry us. Let our lives be a witness to Your faithfulness even before the breakthrough comes. Thank You for the hope of the Gospel that never fails. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
