Evergreen Faith : Divine Healing: Is God’s Promise for Your Body and Soul Still Available Today?

A Message from FA Memphis

Yes, divine healing is a central provision of the Gospel and remains a promise for every believer today. Based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God provides restoration for the physical body, the mind, and the spirit. Because Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, His power to heal has not changed, and it is available to all who seek Him in faith.

Bible Verses on Divine Healing

Exodus 15:26 "...for I am the Lord who heals you."

Isaiah 53:4-5 "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."

Matthew 8:17 "This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.'"

James 5:14-15 "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up."

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

Understanding Divine Healing as a Provision of the Gospel

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that healing isn't just a "bonus" of the Christian life, it’s a fundamental part of what Jesus accomplished on the cross. When we talk about the Gospel, we often focus on the forgiveness of sins. That is the foundation, of course! But the same sacrifice that paid for our sins also provided for our healing.

In the Assemblies of God (AG) tradition, we recognize Divine Healing as one of the four cardinal doctrines. We believe that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers.

Why Does God Heal?

God heals because it is His nature. In the Old Testament, one of His names is Jehovah Rapha, which literally means "The Lord Who Heals." He doesn't just do healing; He is healing.

Jesus spent a massive portion of His earthly ministry healing the sick. He didn't do it just to prove He was God; He did it because He was "moved with compassion." He hates what sickness does to His children. Whether it’s a physical ailment, a mental struggle, or a wounded soul, God’s desire is to see you whole.

Healing for the Body

Physical healing is a testimony to God’s power in the natural world. We see in the New Testament that Jesus healed "every kind of disease and sickness" (Matthew 9:35). There was no case too hard for Him then, and there is no case too hard for Him now.

Sometimes healing is instantaneous, a miracle that leaves doctors shaking their heads in wonder. Other times, it’s a process of recovery where God works through time or even through the wisdom of medical professionals. We thank God for both! All healing comes from Him.

Healing for the Soul and Mind

We live in a world that is heavy with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Divine healing isn't limited to broken bones or viruses; it extends to the "inner man."

Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." If your soul is weary or your mind is clouded by fear, Jesus offers a peace that surpasses understanding. This emotional restoration is just as much a part of His promise as physical health.

The Role of Faith and Community

How do we receive this promise? The Bible points us toward faith. Faith isn't about "earning" healing or being perfect; it’s about trusting in the character and the Word of God.

Faith comes by hearing the Word. As you study the promises of God in scripture, your confidence in His willingness to heal grows.

Community also plays a huge role. In James 5, we are told to call for others to pray for us. There is power when the body of Christ comes together. We aren't meant to carry our burdens or our illnesses alone.

Common Questions About Healing

Does God still heal today? Absolutely. Because Jesus never changes, His ministry of healing continues through the Holy Spirit in the church today.

What if I’m not healed immediately? This is a tough question that many face. We continue to trust God’s Word regardless of what we see. Persistence in prayer is encouraged in the Bible. We keep seeking, keep knocking, and keep trusting in His timing and His ultimate plan for wholeness.

Is medical medicine okay for Christians? Yes! We believe God is the source of all healing. Medicine and doctors are gifts that can be used by God to bring about recovery. We pray for divine intervention while also being thankful for the tools God has given us through science.

A Prayer for Healing

"Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are the Great Physician. I believe that by Your stripes, I am healed. I bring my body, my mind, and my soul to You today. I ask for Your healing touch to flow through me, restoring what is broken and strengthening what is weak. Give me peace that passes understanding and the faith to trust You in every season. Amen."
