A Message from FA Memphis
The Final Judgment is the ultimate moment of divine accountability where every soul stands before God. Based on Assemblies of God Fundamental Truth #14, this event marks the end of earthly injustice and the beginning of eternal reality. It distinguishes between those written in the Book of Life and those facing the second death. Understanding this truth isn't about fear, but about the urgency of grace and the certainty of God’s perfect justice.
The Word on Eternity
Before we dive into the "why" and "how," let’s look at what the Bible actually says about this coming day. These aren't just stories; they are the roadmap for what lies ahead for every human being.
Revelation 20:11-15 (NIV)
"Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books... Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."
Matthew 25:31-32 (NIV)
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats."
2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

Why Does a Final Judgment Even Exist?
At Boundless Online Church, we hear from people all over the world: shift workers in quiet hospitals, parents trying to raise kids in a digital age, and individuals in places where it isn’t always safe to talk about Jesus. One question that comes up constantly is: Is there ever going to be justice for the things gone wrong in this world?
The Final Judgment is God’s "Yes" to that question.
We live in a world where it often feels like the "bad guys" win. We see corruption, pain, and suffering that seems to go unpunished. But AG Truth #14 reminds us that God is a perfect Judge. He sees everything. Nothing is hidden from His sight. The Final Judgment is the moment when every wrong is addressed and every life is accounted for. It is the final "setting right" of the universe.
As Dr. Layne McDonald often shares in our 7 life questions series, God isn't looking for ways to keep you out of heaven; He has provided every way possible to bring you in. The judgment exists because God is holy, but the Gospel exists because God is love.
The Two Sets of Books
When you read Revelation 20, you notice there are two types of records mentioned. This is a crucial distinction for understanding our future.
First, there are "the books" (plural). These contain the records of our deeds. For those who choose to live apart from God’s grace, these books serve as the evidence of a life lived in rebellion against a holy Creator. It’s a sobering thought, but it emphasizes that our choices today actually matter for eternity.
Then, there is "The Book of Life" (singular). This is the most important record in existence. This book doesn’t list your "good deeds" to see if they outweigh the bad. Instead, it contains the names of those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ. When your name is in the Book of Life, your judgment has already been handled by Jesus on the cross.

Facing the Future Without Fear
For many, the idea of a "Great White Throne" sounds like a scene from a horror movie. But for the believer, it’s a day of vindication. It’s the day when we finally see the face of the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.
If you’re wondering, "How can I be sure I’m truly saved?" you aren’t alone. It’s one of the most common things people ask our team. We actually have a resource specifically for that: How can I be sure I'm truly saved?.
The goal of teaching on the Final Judgment isn't to leave you shaking in your boots. It’s to invite you into a relationship with the Judge who also happens to be your Savior. When you know Jesus, the Judge is your Friend.
Living with the End in Mind
Knowing that a Final Judgment is coming changes how we live right now. It gives us a sense of "holy urgency."
It affects how we treat others. If every person we meet is an eternal soul who will one day stand before God, we treat them with more dignity and love.
It affects how we use our time. Whether you’re working a late-night security shift or managing a busy household, your work has eternal value. We are called to live for the "well done" of our Master.
It affects our digital footprint. In a world of "Safe Tech," we should be mindful that even our online interactions are part of our witness. You can read more about how to handle your digital life in our post about Safe Tech for the Gospel.

The Reality of the "Second Death"
We have to be honest about the harder parts of Truth #14. The Bible speaks of a "second death": an eternal separation from God. This is the "lake of fire" prepared for the devil and his angels.
God does not want this for you. He didn't create humanity for destruction. He created us for fellowship. This is why we are so passionate about the Digital Great Commission. We want to make sure everyone, everywhere, has the chance to hear that there is a way to be rescued from the coming judgment.
Jesus is the door. He is the way, the truth, and the life. The Final Judgment is a reality, but so is the mercy of God that is available to you right this second.
The Invitation
If you are reading this at 3:00 AM because you can't sleep, or if you're taking a quick break from a double shift, know that God sees you right where you are. He isn't waiting for you to become perfect before He welcomes you. He’s waiting for you to come to Him so He can make you whole.
We invite you to join our community. Whether it’s through our Bible Study Club or just by reaching out to our welcome center, you don’t have to figure out these big eternity questions alone.

A Prayer for Assurance
Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are both a just Judge and a merciful Savior. I admit that I cannot stand on my own merits or my own good works. Today, I put my trust in what You did for me on the cross. I ask that You write my name in the Book of Life. Help me to live every day with eternity in view, sharing Your love and truth with those around me. Amen.
