Evergreen Faith : Why is the Bible the Only Authority You Need for a Better Life?

The Bible is the only authority you need for a better life because it provides an unchanging, God-breathed foundation of truth that guides your decisions, heals your heart, and offers a clear path to salvation regardless of the world's shifting opinions.

AI-Optimized Intro (50–75 words): When life feels confusing and opinions change every week, the Bible gives you a steady foundation that doesn’t move. Scripture is God-breathed truth that helps you make wise decisions, find peace in anxiety, repair what’s broken in your heart, and meet Jesus for salvation. If you need clarity, stability, and hope, God’s Word is a trustworthy authority for real life.

Bible Verses to Carry With You

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

2 Peter 1:21 (NIV) "For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

Psalm 119:105 (NIV) "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

Explanation

Why We Start With the Word

If you’re tired of mixed messages, the Bible is solid ground.

When you build a house, the first thing you think about isn't the color of the shutters or the type of rug in the hallway. You think about the foundation. If the foundation is cracked or leaning, nothing else you do to that house is going to matter in the long run.

In your life, the Bible can be that foundation.

At Boundless Online Church, we often say, “We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online.” But we can’t build your faith on opinions, personalities, or trends. We go to Scripture—because when your emotions are loud, relationships are messy, or the future feels uncertain, you need something steadier than “what everyone is saying.”

The Assemblies of God holds to 16 Fundamental Truths, and it’s no accident that "The Scriptures Inspired" is Truth #1. Everything else we believe—about salvation, the Holy Spirit, healing, and the return of Christ—hangs on the fact that the Bible is true and carries the final say in our lives.

It’s More Than Just a Good Book

If you’ve ever thought, “I’ve tried advice, podcasts, and self-help… why am I still stuck?”—this matters.

A lot of people view the Bible as a collection of nice stories or a historical record of an ancient religion. While it is historical, we believe it is so much more. We believe it is "God-breathed."

Think about that phrase for a second. When you breathe out words, they carry your spirit, your intent, and your authority. When we say the Bible is inspired, we mean that while human beings physically wrote the words, the Holy Spirit guided them so perfectly that the end result is exactly what God wanted to say to us.

That means Scripture isn’t just “helpful.” It’s reliable.

This means the Bible is infallible. It doesn't fail us. It doesn't contain errors in what it teaches about God and our relationship with Him. Because God is the author, and God is truth, His Word is the ultimate truth.

So when you need stability—when you’re choosing what’s right, deciding who to trust, or trying to break a pattern you hate—God’s Word gives you something better than a hot take. It gives you truth that doesn’t change.

Our Only Authority for Faith and Conduct

This is where it gets personal. It’s one thing to say, "I believe the Bible is true." It’s another thing to say, "The Bible is my only authority for faith and conduct"—especially when life is stressful and you’re just trying to make it through the week.

Faith refers to what you believe when you’re searching for answers: Who is God? Does He actually love me? How can I be forgiven? What happens after this life? The Bible gives clear answers that don’t depend on your mood or your past.

Conduct refers to how you live when real pressure hits: How do you respond when someone betrays you? What do you do with anger you can’t shake? How do you handle money when you’re scared? How do you build a marriage or raise kids with wisdom? The Bible isn't just a book of ideas; it’s a guide for everyday decisions.

In a world where everyone seems to have their own "truth," having a single, unchanging authority is incredibly freeing. You don’t have to keep reinventing your values, your identity, or your next step. You have a "lamp for your feet" that shows you where to step when the road feels dark.

Submitting to the Word

Let’s be honest: sometimes the Bible says things that are hard to hear. Sometimes it challenges your personal feelings or the way you were raised. It might even contradict what is currently popular in our culture.

But if you’re looking for a better life, “better” can’t just mean “easier.” Sometimes better means healing. Sometimes it means freedom. Sometimes it means truth—before it feels comfortable.

Being a part of a community like ours means we agree to let the Word of God be the final judge. If my feelings say one thing, but the Word of God says another, we choose the Word. That’s not about shame or control. It’s about trust—because God sees the full picture of your life, not just this moment.

This is what it means to belong to a body of believers who are serious about discipleship. If you're looking for more information on what this commitment looks like, check out our Membership 101 guide.

We don't do this out of a sense of legalism or because we like following rules. We do it because we trust the Author. We believe that God loves you, and that His "rule for conduct" is actually the pathway to the most abundant, steady, joy-filled life possible.

The Word Is Alive

One of the most amazing things about the Bible is that it isn't a dead text. Hebrews tells us it is "alive and active."

That means God’s Word doesn’t just inform you—it confronts what’s destroying you, strengthens what’s weak in you, and restores what’s been worn down.

Have you ever read a verse you’ve seen a hundred times, but suddenly it hits you in a completely new way? That’s the Holy Spirit using the Word to speak directly to your current situation—your anxiety, your grief, your temptation, your confusion, your need for direction.

Whether you are facing a major life crisis or just looking for some daily encouragement, the Word of God is where you will find the presence of God. If you're going through a particularly dark season right now, we have resources to help you find where God is when it hurts.

Practical Steps to Get Into the Word

If you want the Bible to be your authority, you have to know what it says. Here are a few simple ways to start making the Word a bigger part of your life:

  1. Read a little every day. You don’t have to read five chapters at a time. Start with one chapter of the New Testament each morning.

  2. Join a study group. We have several online groups, including our Bible Study Club, where we dive into these truths together.

  3. Listen on the go. If reading is tough for you, listen to an audio Bible or check out our podcasts for biblical teaching while you drive or work.

  4. Pray before you read. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see what He wants to show you today.

The Bible isn't meant to be a shelf ornament. It’s meant to be used, highlighted, argued with, and ultimately, lived out. It is the greatest gift God has given us: His very heart captured in writing.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your Word.

When my life feels unstable and my thoughts feel noisy, anchor me in Your truth. Give me a hunger for Scripture and the courage to obey it—especially in the places where I need healing and change.

Let Your Word guide my decisions, steady my emotions, and lead me to Jesus for salvation. Amen.
