Exploring Christianity: A Welcoming Guide for the Faith-Curious

Exploring Christianity is about discovering a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, rather than following a set of rigid rules. This guide introduces seekers to the core beliefs of the faith, including the authority of the Bible, the nature of God, and the gift of salvation. Designed for the curious heart, we walk through the basics of Spirit-empowered living and how to join a global community of believers meeting Jesus online.

Words of Hope to Start Your Journey

The Bible is filled with invitations for those who are looking for something more. Here are a few verses that capture the heart of what it means to explore faith:

  • Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

  • John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

  • Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

  • Acts 2:38: "Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"

You Are Welcome Here

If you’ve found yourself clicking on this guide, chances are you’re looking for answers. Maybe life feels a bit heavy lately, or maybe you’ve just always had a nagging curiosity about who Jesus really is.

Whatever brought you here, we want you to know one thing clearly: you are welcome.

At Boundless Online Church, we help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. We know that for many: especially shift workers, those living with disabilities, or people in parts of the world where attending a physical church isn't safe: the internet is the front door to faith. You don't need a suit, a tie, or a perfect track record to start this conversation. You just need a heart that is open to the possibility that you are deeply loved by a Creator who knows your name.

The Foundation: What Do Christians Believe?

Christianity isn't just a philosophy; it’s a relationship built on specific truths. As part of the Assemblies of God, we hold to 16 Fundamental Truths that serve as our anchor.

1. The Bible is Our Compass

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It’s not just an old book; it’s a living guide that shows us how to live and who God is. If you’re just starting out, we often recommend starting with the Book of Mark in the New Testament to see Jesus in action. If you want to dive deeper into study, you might enjoy our Clarion Call Bible Study.

2. The Nature of God

We believe in one God who has revealed Himself in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. This can be a lot to wrap your head around, but think of it as God’s way of being completely present with us in every way possible.

3. The Story of Jesus

Jesus is the center of everything we do. We believe He is fully God and fully man. He came to earth, lived a perfect life, died for our mistakes (which the Bible calls "sin"), and rose again. Because He is alive, we can have a fresh start. This is the "Good News" you might have heard people talk about.

The Gift of Salvation

One of the most beautiful parts of Christianity is that you don’t have to "earn" your way to God. In many religions, you have to do enough good deeds to balance out the bad. In Christianity, Jesus already did the work.

Salvation is a free gift. It happens when we realize we can’t fix ourselves and we ask Jesus to take the lead in our lives. This involves "repentance": which is just a churchy word for "turning around." It means deciding to move away from our old way of doing things and moving toward God.

When you accept this gift, you aren’t just joining a club; you’re being adopted into a family. You become a child of God.

Living a Spirit-Empowered Life

You might have heard the word "Pentecostal" and wondered what it means. You can read a full breakdown of what Pentecostal means here, but the short version is that we believe the Holy Spirit is active and available today.

The same Spirit that empowered the early church is available to help you navigate your daily life. Whether you are working a late shift, caring for a family member in hospice, or navigating an unsafe environment, the Holy Spirit provides comfort, guidance, and strength that goes beyond our own abilities.

Why Community Matters (Even Online)

Faith wasn't meant to be lived alone. While your relationship with Jesus is personal, it’s best grown in a community.

Boundless Online Church exists because we believe that "church" isn't a building: it's people. We are a global community. We have friends joining us from every time zone, from hospitals to living rooms.

Connecting with others helps you stay encouraged. You can watch Sunday Sermons to hear practical teaching, or join the conversation on our Prayer Wall. Seeing how God is working in other people’s lives often helps us see how He is working in ours.

Common Questions from the Curious

"Do I have to be 'good' before I can come to God?" Absolutely not. Jesus didn't wait for people to be perfect before He spent time with them. He invites you exactly as you are right now.

"What if I have doubts?" Doubts are okay. Asking questions is a sign of a seeking heart. Even the closest followers of Jesus had moments of uncertainty. God is big enough to handle your questions.

"How do I pray?" Prayer is just talking to God. You don't need special words or a "thee" and "thou." You can talk to Him like you’d talk to a trusted friend. Tell Him what’s on your mind, thank Him for the good things, and ask Him for help with the hard things.
