In a world that often confuses "niceness" with "love," many Christians are being pressured to remain silent for the sake of peace. But as we see a 78-year-old pastor convicted for reading John 3:16 and Christian colleges facing "existential threats" from secular regulations, we must ask: Is silence actually love? At Boundless Online Church, we believe that true biblical love refuses to bow to cultural pressure. It stands for the Truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
The Myth of "Silent Love"
Have you ever felt that pressure to just "stay quiet" to keep the peace? Maybe it's at work, in your neighborhood, or even within your own family. There is a growing myth in our culture today that suggests if you truly love someone, you will never say anything that might make them feel challenged or uncomfortable.
But here is the reality: Love isn't about bowing down.
If you saw someone walking toward a cliff, would it be "loving" to remain silent because you didn't want to startle them? Of course not. In the same way, the Gospel is the most loving message ever shared because it addresses the most serious cliff we all face: life without God.
When we choose silence over the Truth, we aren't being loving; we are being compliant. And compliance is not a Fruit of the Spirit.
Real Stakes: The Conviction of Pastor Clive Johnston
This isn't just a theoretical debate. In May 2026, we witnessed a startling moment for religious freedom 2026. Pastor Clive Johnston, a 78-year-old retired minister, was convicted in Northern Ireland for simply preaching the Gospel.
What was his "crime"? He stood in a "buffer zone" near a hospital and read John 3:16.
Pastor Johnston wasn't shouting, he wasn't obstructing anyone, and he wasn't even talking about the specific medical services offered at that location. He was simply reading the most famous verse in the Bible: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son..."
The court found him guilty because his presence was seen as an attempt to "influence" others. This is a massive wake-up call for our virtual church community. When the act of reading God's Word becomes a criminal offense, we have to realize that the world’s definition of "peace" often requires the total removal of God's Truth from the public square.

The "Existential Threat" to Christian Education
It’s not just individuals being targeted; it’s our institutions. Christian colleges are currently facing what leaders call an "existential threat" due to new federal regulations known as the Student Tuition and Transparency System (STATS).
Essentially, the government is trying to tie federal funding to the "earnings premium" of graduates. On the surface, it sounds like a way to protect students from bad debt. But look closer. The government’s own estimates suggest that:
89% of religion master’s degrees would fail this test.
53% of religion bachelor’s degrees would fail this test.
Why? Because pastors, missionaries, and non-profit workers aren't in it for the money. Their "value" can't be measured by a secular paycheck. By using a worldly yardstick to measure spiritual callings, these regulations threaten to shut down the very schools that train our future leaders.
This is truth over culture in action. We are being told that if a degree doesn't lead to a high salary, it has no "value." But as believers, we know that a life dedicated to Jesus is the most valuable thing on earth.
What Does the Bible Say?
When we look at the early Church, they faced the exact same pressure. They were told to be quiet. They were told to keep their "opinions" to themselves.
Acts 4:19-20 (NIV)
"But Peter and John replied, 'Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.'"
Ephesians 4:15 (NIV)
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the head, that is, Christ."
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
Notice that Paul connects power and love. True love isn't timid. It isn't afraid. It doesn't bow.

5 Takeaways for Standing in Faith
How do we practically live this out? Whether you are attending a Christian online Bible study or connecting with our Memphis roots from across the globe, here are five ways to stand firm:
Know the Word, Not Just the World: You can't stand for Truth if you don't know what it is. Make daily Bible reading your non-negotiable.
Reject the Fear of Man: Proverb 29:25 tells us that the fear of man is a snare. Ask God for the courage to care more about His "well done" than the world's "likes."
Speak Truth IN Love: Standing for Truth isn't an excuse to be a jerk. We speak with grace, seasoned with salt. We want to win people, not just arguments.
Find Your Community: You weren't meant to do this alone. Join a virtual church community like Boundless Online Church where you can be strengthened by other believers.
Support Faith-Based Institutions: Whether it’s your local church or a Christian college, stand with those who are being pressured to compromise.
Why Boundless Online Church Exists
We know that for many of you, attending a physical church is difficult. Maybe you’re a shift worker, a caregiver, or someone who has felt "burned" by the walls of a building. That’s why we bring church to you.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online.
But "online" doesn't mean "watered down." We are committed to the same Truth that Pastor Clive Johnston stood for. We are committed to the same Truth that the early apostles died for. We are here to provide a safe, welcoming space where you can ask hard questions and get honest, biblical answers.
