The simple trick to growing your faith while balancing a busy life is practicing "micro-faith", integrating small, intentional spiritual habits into the natural gaps of your day rather than waiting for a perfect hour of silence that may never come. By turning ordinary moments like brewing coffee, commuting, or caregiving into points of connection with God, you can maintain a vibrant relationship with Jesus regardless of how demanding your schedule feels.
The Simple Trick to Grow Your Faith While Balancing a Busy Life
If you’re reading this while waiting for a shift to start, during a rare five-minute break from caregiving, or while managing a chronic illness from home, you know that "busy" isn’t just a word, it’s a reality. We often hear that the only way to grow in our faith is to set aside an hour every morning for deep study and silent prayer. But for many of us, that feels impossible. When your life is demanding, the guilt of not having a "perfect" quiet time can actually push you further away from God.
Here’s the good news: God isn't waiting for you to be "un-busy" to meet with you. He is present in the chaos, the noise, and the exhaustion. Growing your faith doesn't require a change in your schedule; it requires a change in your perspective.
The Myth of the "Perfect" Quiet Time
For a long time, the image of a "good Christian" was someone sitting at a mahogany desk with a leather-bound Bible, a highlighter, and a steaming cup of coffee in total silence. While that’s a beautiful practice, it’s not the only way to meet with the Creator.
If you are a nurse working a twelve-hour night shift, a parent caring for a child with special needs, or someone living in a part of the world where owning a physical Bible is dangerous, that "perfect" image is out of reach. Does that mean your faith is destined to stall? Absolutely not.
In the Assemblies of God, we believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. But the Bible also tells us to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). You can’t pray without ceasing if you only pray when you’re sitting at a desk. Prayer and faith-growth are meant to be woven into the fabric of your life, not just tucked into a corner of it.

Micro-Habits: Small Moments, Big Impact
The secret to a thriving spiritual life in a hectic world is the "micro-habit." This is the practice of taking a single verse or a 30-second prayer and anchoring it to something you already do every day.
Think about your daily routine. Do you brew coffee? Do you wait for the bus? Do you wash your hands twenty times a shift? These are "spiritual triggers."
1. The "Brewing" Prayer While the coffee pot is dripping or the microwave is running, use those 60 seconds to acknowledge God’s presence. A simple, "Lord, I give this day to You," is enough. You are acknowledging His sovereignty (one of our 16 Fundamental Truths) before the day even gets moving.
2. The "Commute" Cathedral Whether you are driving, walking, or riding the train, turn your transit time into worship. You don't have to sing at the top of your lungs if you're on a crowded bus. Simply listening to a worship song or a podcast can shift your focus. Our Boundless Podcasts are designed specifically for these moments.
3. Sticky Note Scripture The Bible tells us to meditate on the Word day and night. If you can't sit down to read three chapters, pick one verse. Write it on a sticky note and put it on your mirror, your dashboard, or the inside of your locker. When you see it, read it once. That’s it. Over the course of a day, you’ll have "read" that verse a dozen times.
Turning the Mundane into the Sacred
God is the creator of all things. That means there is nothing so "ordinary" that He isn't there. For those of us in caregiving roles, the work can often feel thankless and repetitive. But what if those moments were sacred?
When you are helping someone get dressed or preparing a meal, you are modeling the servant heart of Jesus. Our Caregiver’s Compass resource talks specifically about finding God’s grace in these high-pressure roles.
If you are a shift worker dealing with the "3:00 AM slump," remember that God never sleeps. He is just as available to you in the middle of the night as He is on a Sunday morning. You can talk to Him while you restock shelves or monitor a patient. He hears the whispers of the heart just as clearly as the songs in a sanctuary.

Faith for the Isolated and Persecuted
We know that many of our Boundless Online Church family members are in places where they cannot openly practice their faith. If you are in a persecuted area or are physically unable to leave your home, your "busy" might be a mental or emotional heaviness rather than a packed schedule.
For you, growing your faith is about the sanctuary of the mind. You don't need a building to be the Church. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Even if you only have one memorized verse, that verse is a seed that God can grow. We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online because we know that the internet can bridge the gap where physical doors are closed.
The Foundation: It’s All About Jesus
None of these "tricks" or habits work if they are just another item on your to-do list. The goal isn't to be "better at being Christian." The goal is to know Jesus.
The core of the Gospel is simple: We are all separated from God by our sin, but God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place. He rose again, defeating death, so that anyone who believes in Him can have eternal life. This salvation is a free gift. You don't earn it by being busy for God, and you don't lose it by being too busy for a long prayer time.
If you’ve never made that decision to follow Jesus, you can start right now, right where you are. You don't need a special ceremony. Just tell Him: "Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me and lead my life."
Once you have that foundation, every "micro-habit" becomes a way to enjoy the relationship you already have with Him.

Next Steps for Your Busy Week
If you're feeling overwhelmed, don't try to add ten new habits today. Just pick one.
Ask a Question: If you’re struggling with how to apply the Bible to your specific life situation, we’d love to help. You can join our Bible Study Club to chat with others who are walking the same path.
Check the Resources: We have articles on Life's Hardest Questions that might speak to the stress you’re feeling.
Be Kind to Yourself: God is a loving Father, not a demanding boss. He sees your heart and the effort you’re making to stay connected to Him.
Growing in faith is a marathon, not a sprint. Some days you’ll have time for a long study; other days, you’ll just have enough breath for a quick "Help me, Lord." Both are precious to Him.
