Walking with the One Who Knows You
Knowing the One True God changes the way you parent today because it gives you real peace of mind. You stop parenting from panic and start parenting from peace—you’re not guessing your way through the day alone, and your child isn’t “too much” for God to handle. The same God who made your child also knows their heart, holds your home steady, and gives you fresh wisdom and patience right when you need it.
There’s a special kind of peace that settles over a home when everyone feels truly "seen." You know that feeling, when your spouse anticipates your need for a quiet cup of coffee, or when you look at your child and know exactly what that specific "I’m tired" pout means before they even say a word. Being known is the foundation of being loved.
In our journey as parents, we spend so much energy trying to know our children’s hearts, but we also have the incredible privilege of introducing them to the One who knew them before the world began. Today, we’re looking at what it means to walk with the One True God. This isn't just a theological concept from a textbook; it’s the heartbeat of our family’s security.
Scripture
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." , Deuteronomy 6:4 (NIV)
A Reflection for Parents: The God Who Is One
In a world that offers a thousand different "truths" and a million different distractions, the Bible anchors us in a beautiful reality: there is only one God. He isn't a collection of conflicting moods or a distant force. He is the One True God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, perfectly united in love.
For us as parents, this unity is our blueprint. When we teach our children that God is one, we are telling them that the same God who created the giant redwoods also walked the dusty floors of Galilee and lives inside our hearts today through His Spirit. He is consistent. He is reliable. He is whole.
When life feels fractured, between school runs, work deadlines, and laundry piles, we can lean on the "Oneness" of God. We don’t have to juggle different versions of Him. The God who hears your whispered prayer at 3:00 AM is the same God who is sovereign over the big, scary things in the news. He knows you, He is for you, and He is the only One who can truly hold your world together.

1. Family Bible Study: The Great "One and Only"
Goal: To help children understand that while God is big and powerful, He is also personal and one-of-a-kind.
Read Together: Isaiah 43:10 "‘You are my witnesses,’ declares the Lord, ‘and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.’"
The Big Idea: Imagine if there were ten different suns in the sky. It would be very confusing! We wouldn't know which one to look to for light or which one gave us warmth. But there is only one sun, and it is enough for the whole world. God is like that, but even better. He is the One True God. There is no one like Him, no one as strong as Him, and no one as kind as Him.
Talk About It:
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? (Wait for answers). Did you know God has all the power? Because He is the only God, He never has to ask anyone else for permission to help us.
What does it feel like to know that the God who made the stars also knows your name?
Parent Tip: If your kids ask, "How can God be three (Father, Son, Spirit) and still be one?" you can use the example of a family. A family is one unit, but it is made of different people who love each other perfectly. In an even more amazing way, God is one God in three Persons.
2. A Story for the Little Ones: Toby and the Secret Star
Once upon a time, in a house with a bright blue door, lived a little boy named Toby. Toby loved to count things. He counted his blue socks (two!). He counted his goldfish crackers (ten!). He even tried to count the freckles on his nose, but he always got stuck at seven.
One night, Toby looked up at the sky. "Mommy," he whispered, "there are too many stars. Does God get confused trying to watch all of them?"
Mommy tucked the blanket under Toby’s chin. "Toby, imagine if there were a hundred different 'Mommys' in this house. Each one had a different rule. One said 'Eat your peas,' and another said 'Eat only chocolate!' That would be confusing, wouldn't it?"
Toby giggled. "That would be silly."
"Well," Mommy said, "there is only one True God. Because He is the only One, He never gets confused. He doesn’t have to check with anyone else to see if He should love you today. He just does! He knows every star by name, and He knows every hair on your head. You never have to wonder which God is listening, because the One who made you is the only One there is."
Toby looked back at the window. The stars didn't look like a big, messy crowd anymore. They looked like tiny lanterns held by the One who knew him best. Toby closed his eyes, feeling very safe, and very seen.

3. The Chronicles of the Bright Path: Chapter 1
The Lantern’s First Light
The woods behind Elara’s house were never just woods. To Elara, they were the "Great Unknown." She stood at the edge of the tall pines, clutching a wooden lantern that her grandfather had given her. It didn't have a candle inside, yet it hummed with a soft, golden warmth.
"Remember, Elara," her grandfather’s voice echoed in her mind, "The Path only shows itself to those who trust the One who laid the stones."
Elara took a breath. The village was full of stories about other 'powers' in the woods: shadows that promised shortcuts or spirits that demanded gifts. But Elara knew the Truth. There was only one King of the Woods, the One who had planted the first seed and carved the first stream.
She stepped forward. As her foot touched the moss, the lantern flared. A single, clear path appeared, glowing like silver under the trees. It didn't branch off into a dozen confusing ways. It was one path, led by one light.
"I’m not alone," she whispered. The warmth from the lantern spread up her arm and into her chest. The One who made the path was walking right beside her, and He knew exactly where they were going.
4. Tips for Raising Christian Children: Talking About the "Only" God
In a pluralistic culture, teaching that God is the only true God can feel "exclusive" or difficult. Here are three ways to handle this with grace and clarity:
Focus on Relationship, Not Just Rules: Instead of just saying "other religions are wrong," focus on the beauty of who our God is. He is the God who comes to us. Most other worldviews are about people trying to reach a distant god. Our God, the One True God, reached down to us through Jesus.
Use the "Creator" Logic: Help your children see God’s handiwork. Whether it’s the complexity of a butterfly’s wing or the vastness of the ocean, point out that such a perfect design points to one Master Designer.
Model Exclusivity in Love: Just as you are their only mother or father, and that special bond makes them feel safe, tell them that God’s "oneness" is His way of saying, "I am your everything."

5. Hands-On Faith: The Unity Mosaic
The Activity: Create a "One True God" Mosaic.
Materials:
A piece of cardstock with a large "1" drawn in the center.
Old magazines, colored paper scraps, or fabric bits.
Glue sticks.
Instructions:
Have your children tear the colored paper into small pieces.
As they glue the different colors inside the number "1," talk about how God made everything in the world (the different colors/textures), but He is the single source of it all.
The Spiritual Connection: Say: "Just like all these little pieces come together to make one big number, all the amazing things God does: making us, saving us, and helping us: all come from the One True God who loves us."

Heart of the Story
The goal of this devotional is to instill a sense of security in children by teaching them the "Oneness" of God. When we understand there is only one True God, we move from the fear of the unknown into the safety of being known.
Theological Roots: AG Fundamental Truth #2 (The One True God). We believe the one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind.
Discussion Questions
Ages 3–6: If you were scared in the dark, who is the one person you would call for? Just like you call for Mommy or Daddy, we can always call for the one God who is always there.
Ages 7–9: Why do you think the Bible says there is only one God? How does that help us when we are making choices about what is right and wrong?
Ages 10–12: In school, you might hear people say all paths lead to God. How does the verse "The Lord our God is one" change the way you think about that?
Scripture Memory Cards (Watercolor Style)
Verse: "The Lord our God, the Lord is one." (Deut 6:4)

Signature:Walking in Truth.

Action: A Moment of Gratitude
Tonight, before bed, sit in the dark for a moment with a single flashlight. Point out how that one light can chase away all the shadows. Say a quick thank you to God for being the one true Light in your family’s life.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for being the One True God. Thank You that we don't have to wonder who You are or if You care about us. You are our Creator, our Savior, and our Friend. Help our family to walk with You today and every day. Amen.
