To prepare for the return of Christ, believers should prioritize daily spiritual readiness, holy living, and active sharing of the Gospel. Rather than focusing on fear or date-setting, preparation involves living with an eternal perspective, aligning one's character with Christ, remaining alert through prayer, and fulfilling the Great Commission. This "Blessed Hope" motivates a life of purpose, ensuring we are found faithful and ready whenever He appears.
What the Word Says
The Bible isn't silent about the end of the story. In fact, it gives us very clear instructions on how to handle ourselves while we wait for the King to return. Here are a few foundational scriptures to hold onto:
Matthew 24:42-44 (NIV) "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
Titus 2:11-13 (NIV) "For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 3:11-12 (NIV) "Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming."

Understanding the "Blessed Hope"
At Boundless Online Church, we lean heavily into the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. One of those core truths is "The Blessed Hope." This isn't just a "hope" like we hope it rains or hope our favorite team wins. In the Bible, hope means a confident expectation.
The return of Christ is the "Blessed Hope" of the Church. It’s the moment when those who have fallen asleep in Christ, along with those who are alive and remain, will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. This doctrine isn’t meant to scare us; it’s meant to encourage us. It reminds us that no matter how chaotic the world gets, God has a plan, and He is coming back for His people.
Living with an eternal perspective means shifting our focus from the temporary struggles of today to the permanent reality of God’s Kingdom. Whether you are working a late shift in a hospital, caring for a family member at home, or living in a place where it’s dangerous to own a Bible, the promise remains the same: He is coming back.
How to Stay Ready Every Day
Preparation for the return of Christ isn't something you do once a year during a special sermon series. It’s a daily rhythm. Think of it like "decorating" your soul with the character of Jesus. Here is how we can practically live in a state of readiness:
1. Maintain Constant Spiritual Awareness
It’s easy to get distracted by the "noise" of life, bills, news cycles, and social media. Staying ready means "looking" for His return with sincere conviction. This doesn't mean standing on a mountain staring at the clouds; it means living each day with the awareness that Jesus could return at any moment. This awareness naturally changes how we treat people and how we spend our time.
2. Pursue Holy Living and Character
In Titus, we are told that grace teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness. Readiness involves a "cleaning of the house." Just as you would tidy up your home if you knew a guest was arriving, we prepare our hearts by confessing sin and inviting the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit in us. When we remain in fellowship with Him, we won't feel the need to "shrink back in shame" when He appears.

3. Let Your Light Shine Through Service
Being ready isn't a passive state; it’s an active one. In the parables of Jesus, the servants who were commended were the ones found doing the Master’s work when He returned. For us, that means fulfilling the Great Commission. We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. Whether you are participating in a Clarion Call Bible Study or simply being a witness to your coworkers, your work has eternal value.
4. Stay Rooted in Community and Prayer
You weren't meant to wait alone. Being part of a spiritual community helps keep your "lamp burning." If you’re feeling weary or distracted, reach out. Our Prayer Wall is a place where you can share your burdens and find others standing with you. Staying connected to the Body of Christ keeps us sharp and encouraged.

Living with Hope in a Hurting World
For many of our global community members: especially those in unsafe areas or those dealing with chronic illness: the return of Christ is the ultimate source of comfort. It represents the end of suffering, the restoration of peace, and the righting of every wrong.
When we live with an eternal perspective, we don't ignore the problems of the world, but we aren't crushed by them either. We understand that our current trials are "light and momentary" compared to the glory that will be revealed. This perspective gives us the "calm power" to face each day with confidence.
If you’ve been feeling anxious about the "end times," remember that for the believer, the end is actually the beginning of our forever with God. Your job isn't to figure out the exact date or hour: Jesus said even He didn't know that. Your job is to be ready.

A Prayer for Readiness
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the "Blessed Hope" we have in Jesus Christ. Lord, help us to live every day with our eyes on eternity. Forgive us for the times we’ve become too settled in this world and lost sight of Your Kingdom. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we can live holy and godly lives. Give us the courage to share Your love with those who don't know You yet. Keep our lamps burning bright until the day we see You face to face. Amen.
