Micro-Study: How Can I Grow in Christ at Home When Life is Busy?

A Message from FA Memphis
You can grow in your faith at home by dedicating just 3 to 5 minutes a day to a "micro-study", a focused look at a single Bible verse followed by brief reflection and prayer. By using a method called "habit stacking," where you attach this study to an existing routine like drinking your morning coffee or commuting, you create a consistent, sustainable spiritual rhythm. This intentional connection with the Holy Spirit allows God’s Word to transform your heart and mind even in the middle of a packed schedule.
The Power of the Small Moment
We often think that growing in Christ requires hours of silence, a massive library of commentaries, and a perfect environment.
But for most of us, life is loud. It’s fast. It’s full of responsibilities that don’t stop.
The good news is that God meets us right where we are. Whether you are a parent juggling toddlers, a professional with a long commute, or a student balancing exams, your spiritual growth isn’t dependent on the length of your study, but the posture of your heart.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that the "Boundless Daily Micro-Studies" series is one of the most effective ways to stay grounded.
It’s about quality, not just quantity. It’s about taking one truth from Scripture and letting it breathe in your life throughout the day.

What is a Micro-Study?
A micro-study is a focused, intentional spiritual exercise.
It usually takes between 3 and 5 minutes.
Instead of trying to read three chapters of a book you don't fully understand, you focus on one powerful verse.
You read it. You think about it. You talk to God about it.
That’s it.
This approach aligns with our belief in the authority of the Scriptures. As the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths remind us, the Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. By focusing on even a small portion of it, you are inviting the Creator of the universe to speak into your situation.
How to Get Started: The 3-Step Process
Starting a new habit can feel overwhelming, so let’s keep this very simple.
1. Select a Single Verse
Don’t worry about the whole Bible today. Pick one verse that speaks to where you are right now.
If you’re feeling anxious, try Psalm 46:10: "Be still, and know that I am God."
If you need direction, look at Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
2. Engage Intentionally
Read the verse slowly. Maybe read it twice.
Ask yourself: "What is God saying to me through this?"
This isn't just a reading exercise; it’s a conversation. You are listening to the Holy Spirit.
3. Habit Stack
This is the secret to consistency. "Habit stacking" means you take your micro-study and "stack" it onto something you already do every single day.
The Coffee Routine: While the water is boiling or the coffee is brewing, read your verse.
The Commute: Use a Bible app to listen to a verse while you drive or ride the train.
The Bedtime Plug-in: When you plug your phone in for the night, let that be your cue to reflect on one final truth before you sleep.

Why Consistency Beats Intensity
Many people start the year with a plan to read the entire Bible in 90 days. Most of those people stop by February.
Why? Because intensity is hard to maintain. Consistency, however, builds a foundation.
Think of it like physical exercise. If you go to the gym for 10 hours once a year, you won’t see much change. But if you walk for 15 minutes every single day, your health will transform.
Spiritual growth works the same way.
The goal of these micro-studies isn't to check a box. The goal is to keep your heart "warm" toward God. When you stay connected to Him in small ways throughout the day, you’ll find it easier to hear His voice when big decisions come your way.
Suggested Verses to Start Your Journey
If you aren't sure where to begin, here are a few "theological pillars" that provide a great foundation for any micro-study:
2 Timothy 3:16:"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." (Reminds us why we study the Word).
Hebrews 13:8:"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Provides peace in a changing world).
Acts 1:8:"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you..." (Focuses on Spirit-empowered living).

Prayer: The Essential Second Half
A micro-study isn't complete without a moment of prayer.
You don't need fancy words. You don't need to be in a church building.
Prayer is simply responding to what God just told you in His Word.
If your verse was about peace, your prayer might be: "Lord, I feel stressed today. Help me to actually feel Your peace like You promised in this verse."
If your verse was about strength, you might say: "God, I’m tired. Please give me Your strength to get through this afternoon."
This simple dialogue keeps your relationship with Jesus vibrant and real. It’s not about religion; it’s about a living connection.
