Tuesday Tips: Finding Courage When Fear Feels Overwhelming
Fear can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to lead your life. God’s Word reminds us that courage grows when we trust His presence, take one faithful step at a time, and refuse to let anxiety make our decisions for us. If you are scared, uncertain, or tired, God is still with you and still leading you forward.
Let's be real for a moment: fear is something every single one of us faces. Maybe it's the fear of failure, rejection, the unknown, or even the fear of stepping into something new that God is calling you toward. Whatever shape your fear takes, know this: you are not alone, and you are never forgotten.
Here at Boundless Online Church, we believe that faith and fear cannot occupy the same space. When we choose to step out in faith, fear begins to lose its grip. We want to walk alongside you as we explore what it truly means to overcome fear and step boldly into God's purpose for your life.
Whether you're feeling stuck, anxious about the future, or simply need a reminder that God is bigger than any obstacle you face, this is for you. Welcome home, friend.
📖 Bible Study: Joshua 1:9 : God's Promise of Courage

One of the most powerful verses in Scripture about overcoming fear comes from the book of Joshua. God spoke these words to Joshua as he was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land: a massive, terrifying responsibility:
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." : Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Let's break this down together:
1. It's a Command, Not a Suggestion
Notice that God doesn't say, "It would be nice if you weren't afraid." He commands it. Why? Because He knows that fear will try to paralyze us. But when God commands something, He also provides the strength to obey.
2. Courage Isn't the Absence of Fear
Being courageous doesn't mean you never feel scared. It means you choose to move forward anyway because you trust the One who walks with you. Joshua surely felt the weight of his calling, but God's presence made all the difference.
3. The Promise: "I Will Be With You"
This is the heart of it all. God doesn't send us out alone. He promises His presence: wherever we go, whatever we face. That truth alone is enough to quiet our anxious hearts.
Reflection Questions:
What fear is currently holding you back from stepping into God's plan?
How does knowing God is with you change your perspective on that fear?
What would you do today if you truly believed you couldn't fail with God by your side?
Take a moment to journal your thoughts or share them in one of our Boundless groups: we'd love to pray with you!
🛠️ Life Hack: The 5-Second Rule for Courage
Here's a practical tool that can transform the way you respond to fear: The 5-Second Rule.
This simple technique, popularized by motivational speaker Mel Robbins, works like this:
When you feel an impulse to do something brave, good, or aligned with God's calling: count down 5-4-3-2-1 and GO before your brain talks you out of it.
Why does this work? Our brains are wired to protect us from discomfort. The moment we hesitate, our mind starts generating excuses, worst-case scenarios, and reasons to stay in our comfort zone. The 5-second countdown interrupts that pattern and propels us into action.
How to Apply This in Your Faith Walk:
Feel prompted to pray for a stranger? 5-4-3-2-1: walk over and offer encouragement.
Sensing God calling you to join a Bible study group? 5-4-3-2-1: sign up today.
Want to reach out to someone you've lost touch with? 5-4-3-2-1: send that message.
Feeling led to volunteer or serve? 5-4-3-2-1: take the first step.
The more you practice this, the more natural courage becomes. Faith is action. And sometimes, action is as simple as counting to five and trusting God with the rest.
🎬 Movie Review: Facing the Giants : When Faith Conquers Fear

If you're looking for an inspiring film that beautifully illustrates stepping out in faith, we highly recommend Facing the Giants (2006).
This faith-based movie follows Coach Grant Taylor, a high school football coach whose team has never had a winning season. Beyond the field, Grant faces mounting personal struggles: infertility, financial stress, and the very real possibility of losing his job.
At his lowest point, Grant makes a decision that changes everything: he chooses to fully surrender his fears and future to God.
Why We Love This Film:
It's honest about struggle. The characters don't pretend everything is easy. They wrestle with doubt, disappointment, and fear: just like we do.
It shows the power of surrender. When Grant stops trying to control outcomes and starts trusting God's plan, everything shifts.
It inspires action. The famous "death crawl" scene is a powerful visual of what's possible when we push past our limits with faith.
Favorite Quote:"Your attitude is like the aroma of your heart. If your attitude stinks, it means your heart's not right."
Whether you watch it alone or with your family, Facing the Giants is a beautiful reminder that God is faithful even when circumstances seem impossible. Perfect for a movie night with purpose!
💬 Your Daily Affirmation: Speak Faith Over Fear
Here's a life-changing affirmation rooted in Joshua 1:9 that we encourage you to speak over yourself every single day:
"I am not afraid because the Lord my God is with me wherever I go."
Write it on your mirror. Set it as your phone wallpaper. Say it out loud when anxiety creeps in. Affirmations aren't magic words: they're reminders of God's truth that rewire our thinking and align our hearts with His promises.
When fear whispers, "You can't do this," let faith shout back, "God is with me, and He is able!"
