Revival is Not Just for Florida: Is God Seeking an Outpouring at FA Memphis?

Is God sending a spiritual revival to Memphis? While outpourings at SEU in Florida have captured headlines, First Assembly Memphis is actively seeking a local movement of the Holy Spirit. Through intentional prayer, Wednesday night gatherings, and Pentecostal worship, we are inviting a fresh move of God to Shelby County.

At First Assembly Memphis, our "WHY" is simple: we believe every person in the 901 is a priceless child of God who deserves to experience His life-changing presence. We exist to be a Pentecostal lighthouse, helping our neighbors in Cordova, Bartlett, and beyond navigate their spiritual journey with Christ-like love and biblical truth.

The Spark from the Sunshine State

If you’ve been scrolling through social media lately, you might have seen widely reported clips from Southeastern University (SEU) in Lakeland, Florida. Students stayed in the chapel for hours, sometimes days, just to worship. No fancy lights, no celebrity preachers, just a raw, authentic hunger for the Holy Spirit. It’s the kind of thing that makes you sit up and ask, "Why not here? Why not in Memphis?"

There’s a common misconception that "revival" is something that only happens in big coastal cities or at university campuses. But the truth is, the Holy Spirit doesn't need a specific zip code to move. He just needs an open heart. Whether you are in the middle of a bustling campus or sitting in a pew in Cordova, the promise of an outpouring is for you.

Why Memphis is Ripe for an Outpouring

Let’s be real for a second. Our city, the 901, has its challenges. We see the news, we feel the weight of the world, and sometimes it feels like Shelby County is just waiting for a break. But history tells us that some of the greatest moves of God happen in places that feel the most desperate for a touch of Heaven.

Memphis has always been a city of soul. From our music to our food, there is a deep-seated passion here. When that passion is directed toward Jesus, something incredible happens. We aren’t just looking for a "good service." We are seeking a transformation that spills out of our sanctuary and into the streets of Arlington, Bartlett, and downtown Memphis.

Staying Grounded: The Pentecostal Lighthouse

As a church aligned with the Assemblies of God, we don’t just "hope" for revival; we are built on the doctrinal foundation that makes room for it. We stand firmly on the 16 Fundamental Truths, which remind us that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a distinct experience available to all believers.

When we talk about an "outpouring," we aren’t talking about emotional hype. We are talking about the biblical precedent found in Acts 2. We believe in the authority of Scripture and the power of divine healing. This isn't a new trend; it’s our heritage. We are a lighthouse because we hold to the light of the Word, even when the cultural winds shift.

Wednesday Nights: Where the Fire Starts

You might think revival only happens on Sunday mornings with a full band and a packed house. But at FA Memphis, some of our most profound moments happen mid-week. Our Wednesday night dinners are more than just a meal (though the food is great, check out our Wednesday Menu). They are a time for the family of God to slow down.

Following the meal, we dive into prayer and praise. It’s in these smaller, focused moments that we often see the Holy Spirit move most clearly. Whether it’s through The Journey or our dedicated prayer gatherings, we are creating a space for God to speak. Revival often starts around a dinner table or in a circle of friends praying for one another’s burdens.

Practical Steps for Your Spiritual Growth

Revival isn't just a corporate event; it's a personal one. If you are feeling a nudge to go deeper in your faith, here are a few ways to position yourself for what God is doing:

  1. Prioritize Prayer: Don’t wait for a church service. Start your day by asking the Holy Spirit to fill you. Visit our Prayer and Praise page for inspiration.

  2. Get Into the Word: Revival must be anchored in Scripture. If you don’t have a regular reading plan, start in the book of Acts.

  3. Community Matters: You weren't meant to do this alone. Join a Life Group or get involved in our Ladies Ministry or men's groups.

  4. Expect the Miraculous: God is still in the business of healing and restoration. Come with an expectant heart.

What Does Revival Look Like in the 901?

Revival in Memphis doesn’t mean everyone starts wearing white robes and shouting on street corners. It looks like a father in Cordova finally finding the strength to lead his family with grace. It looks like a college student in Bartlett finding their identity in Christ instead of their GPA. It looks like people from all walks of life coming together at First Assembly Memphis to say, "We want more of God."

It’s about course-correcting with Christ-like love. It’s about realizing that you are a priceless child of God and that He has a purpose for your life that far exceeds your current circumstances.

Seeking the "Outpouring" Together

We often hear people talk about the "SEU outpouring" as a widely reported event at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and we also hear stories of revivals in different places. But here in Memphis, I’m not trying to name or brand anything—I’m simply praying for a fresh move of God in Memphis and asking the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do in our city.

We are actively seeking God’s presence in our KidsZone, in our youth ministry, and in every square inch of our campus.

If you are tired of the status quo and you are hungry for something real, you aren't alone. There is a community here in the 901 that is praying for the same thing. We don't have to look to Florida to believe God can work; we can ask Him to move right here in our own backyard.
