Technology & Faith : Is AI Bad for Your Faith? Why Technology and Christianity Can Actually Coexist

AI is not inherently bad for your faith; in fact, technology and Christianity can coexist beautifully when we approach innovation with a heart for God and a spirit of discernment. While any new tool can become a distraction if misused, artificial intelligence offers incredible opportunities to translate the Gospel into every language, streamline ministry work to focus on people, and provide new ways to dive deep into Scripture. By staying rooted in biblical truth and prioritizing real human connection, we can use these digital tools to fulfill the Great Commission in ways never before possible.

AI-Optimized Intro

Is AI bad for faith? Not necessarily. While technology can sometimes distract, AI and Christianity can coexist when used as a tool for connection and ministry. From enhancing Bible study to translating the Word globally, AI offers ways to deepen spiritual lives. By prioritizing human connection and biblical truth, believers can navigate the digital age while staying rooted in Christ’s love and the Great Commission.

What the Bible Says About Innovation and Knowledge

The Word of God isn't silent about the growth of knowledge or how we use the tools at our disposal. Here are a few verses to keep in mind as we explore this digital frontier:

  • Daniel 12:4 – "But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge."

  • Colossians 3:17 – "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 – "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."

  • Matthew 28:19 – "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..."

Navigating the Digital Frontier with "Calm Power"

I often hear from folks who are a bit nervous about how fast the world is changing. With the rise of AI chatbots, automated systems, and virtual reality, it’s easy to feel like the "human" part of our faith is being pushed to the side.

At Boundless Online Church, we like to approach these changes with what I call "calm power." We don't have to fear technology because we know who holds the future. God is the creator of the human mind, and the intelligence we use to build these tools is a gift from Him.

The question isn't whether AI is "good" or "evil." The real question is: How are we using it to honor God and love our neighbors?

Addressing the Concerns: Does Technology Replace God?

Recent research has shown some interesting trends. In places where automation and "robots" become a big part of daily life, some people tend to rely less on their faith. Why? Because historically, humans have turned to God to solve problems that felt beyond their control. When a machine can solve those problems, the temptation is to think we don't need the Divine anymore.

But we know better.

A machine can give you an answer, but it can’t give you Peace. A bot can process data, but it can’t offer Grace. An algorithm can predict your next move, but it can’t offer you Eternal Life.

The danger isn't the technology itself; it’s the human tendency to worship the creation instead of the Creator. We have to be intentional about using AI as a supplement to our spiritual lives, not a substitute for a relationship with Jesus.

Practical Tech Safety for Families

As your Online and Connection Pastor, I want to make sure we are protecting our homes while we explore these new tools. If you’re a parent or grandparent, AI can feel like a bit of a "black box." Here are some practical ways to keep your family’s tech use safe and faith-focused:

  1. Be the Filter: Don't let your kids explore AI tools alone. Sit with them. Ask the AI questions together and talk about the answers.

  2. Verify the Source: AI can sometimes share "hallucinations" or biased info. Teach your kids to always check what they read against the Bible.

  3. Set "No-Tech" Zones: Ensure your dinner table or evening prayer time is a screen-free zone. We need moments of silence to hear the Holy Spirit.

  4. Discuss Ethics: Talk to your teens about why things like "deepfakes" or AI-generated dishonesty go against our call to walk in the Truth.

AI as a Tool for the Great Commission

Now, let's look at the "Amazing" side of this. Think about the Great Commission. We are called to reach every nation.

Right now, AI is helping missionaries translate the Bible into rare languages in a fraction of the time it used to take. It’s helping churches like ours reach people who might be stuck at home, in a hospital, or living in a country where they can’t safely walk into a physical building.

We use technology to bring our Sunday Live Worship into your living rooms. It allows us to host Bible Study Clubs where someone in Memphis can pray with someone in London or Tokyo.

When we use AI to handle the "busy work": like scheduling, basic questions, or data organization: it actually frees up our pastors and volunteers to do more of what matters: listening, counseling, and loving people one-on-one.

Maintaining the Heart of Connection

One of my favorite things we do here is our Boundless Buddy Check-ins. Why? Because at the end of the day, faith is about connection.

Technology can be the bridge that brings us together, but the connection itself has to be human. AI can't feel the weight of a heavy heart, and it can't celebrate with you when a prayer is answered. It is a tool, like a hammer or a paintbrush. A paintbrush doesn't create the masterpiece; the artist does.

We are the artists, and the Holy Spirit is our inspiration. AI is just a new kind of brush.

Personalized Learning and Growing in Faith

Have you ever struggled to understand a complex part of the Bible? AI-driven study tools can now help explain things in ways that fit your specific learning style. Whether you need a simple breakdown or a deep historical analysis, these tools can make the Word more accessible.

If you’re looking for more ways to grow, I encourage you to check out our Podcasts or browse through our Evergreen Bible Studies. We are constantly using the best tools available to make sure you have the resources you need to walk confidently in your calling.

Finding Peace in a Noisy Digital World

The digital world is noisy. It’s fast. Sometimes it’s even a bit scary. But our God is the God of Peace. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the "noise" of the world, remember that you have a community here at Boundless that is focused on what truly lasts.

We’ve written before about finding perfect peace in a noisy world, and that applies to our digital lives too. Don't let the "next big thing" in tech steal your joy. Use the tools, but keep your eyes on the Prize.

A Closing Thought

Technology will keep changing. There will be new versions, new gadgets, and new AI models every few months. But the Gospel is "the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

We don't have to be afraid of the future because God is already there. Let’s use every tool we have: digital or traditional: to make sure the world knows just how much He loves them.

A Prayer for Wisdom in the Digital Age

Lord, thank You for the gift of creativity and the technology that allows us to connect across the world. We ask for Your wisdom as we navigate these new tools. Help us to use AI and every digital platform to spread Your light and Your truth. Protect our families, guard our hearts from distraction, and help us always to prioritize real, human connection in Your name. May everything we do online bring glory to You. Amen.
