The Boundless Daily: Day 3 : More Than a Teacher

Who Do You Say That I Am?
Jesus asked His disciples this question two thousand years ago.
It's still the most important question anyone will ever answer.
Some say He was a good teacher. A wise rabbi. A moral philosopher. A revolutionary leader who stood up for the poor.
All of those things are true.
But they're not enough.

The Problem With "Just a Teacher"
Here's the thing: Jesus didn't leave us that option.
Good teachers don't claim to forgive sins.
Wise philosophers don't say, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
Moral leaders don't accept worship.
But Jesus did all of these things.
C.S. Lewis said it best: Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord. There's no middle ground where He's just a "good teacher" who said some nice things.
If He's not God, then He's either deceiving us or deceived Himself.
But if He is God: everything changes.

What Jesus Said About Himself
Jesus made His identity crystal clear.
When the religious leaders accused Him of blasphemy, He didn't back down. He doubled down.
"I and the Father are one," He said in John 10:30.
The crowd picked up stones. They knew exactly what He was claiming.
In John 8:58, Jesus declared, "Before Abraham was, I am."
That phrase: "I am": is the name God gave Moses at the burning bush. Jesus was saying, "I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I'm the One who brought Israel out of Egypt. I'm the eternal God in human flesh."
Thomas got it. After seeing the risen Christ, he fell at His feet and said, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28).
Jesus didn't correct him.
He accepted worship. Only God can do that.

Why His Deity Matters for You
So what? Why does it matter that Jesus is God?
Because only God can save.
Only God can forgive your sins. When a paralyzed man was lowered through a roof, Jesus' first words weren't about healing. They were about forgiveness: "Your sins are forgiven" (Mark 2:5).
The religious leaders were furious. "Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Exactly.
That's the point.
Jesus has the authority to forgive because He is God. He's not just a messenger delivering God's forgiveness: He is the source of it.
Only God can defeat death. Jesus didn't just teach about resurrection. He rose from the dead Himself. He walked out of the tomb on the third day, proving His power over sin, death, and the grave.
No other religious leader can make that claim. Their tombs are occupied. Jesus' tomb is empty.
Only God can give you eternal life. Jesus said, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:28).
Your salvation isn't dependent on your performance. It's secure in His hands.
Because He's God.
God With Us
Here's the beautiful part: Jesus didn't stay distant.
He didn't send a messenger. He didn't write instructions from heaven and expect us to figure it out.
He came.
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us" (John 1:14).
Emmanuel. God with us.
He knows what it's like to be tired, hungry, tempted, rejected, and heartbroken. He walked dusty roads. He wept at funerals. He felt the sting of betrayal.
He understands your struggles because He lived them.
But He never sinned. Never gave in. Never failed.
And because He's God, He has the power to help you through whatever you're facing right now.

Your Secure Salvation
If Jesus were just a teacher, your salvation would depend on how well you followed His lessons.
You'd never be sure if you'd done enough.
But because Jesus is God, your salvation is secure in Him.
He didn't come to give you a to-do list. He came to do what you could never do for yourself.
He lived the perfect life you couldn't live.
He died the death you deserved.
He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death once and for all.
When you trust in Him: not in your own goodness, but in His finished work: you are saved. Completely. Eternally. Securely.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
That's the gospel.
That's the good news.
Jesus is God. He came to save you. And He did.
What Will You Do With Jesus?
So we're back to the question: Who do you say that He is?
A good teacher? A historical figure? An inspiring example?
Or Lord and Savior?
If you've never surrendered your life to Jesus, today is the day.
You don't have to clean up your act first. You don't have to understand everything. You don't have to be in a church building.
Wherever you are right now: in a remote village, working a night shift, sitting alone in a hospital room, hiding your faith in a dangerous place: you can meet Jesus.
Just tell Him:
"Jesus, I believe You are God. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I can't save myself, but I trust You to save me. Come into my life. Be my Lord and Savior. Amen."
If you prayed that prayer, welcome to the family.
Your life just changed forever.
