The Daily Walk: Growing in Faith Step by Step

Walking with Jesus isn’t a one-time decision: it’s a daily journey.

Some days feel clear and steady. Other days feel messy, rushed, or heavy.

But the good news is this: growth doesn’t require perfection. It requires presence: showing up with Jesus again today.

This post is a simple, step-by-step guide for your daily walk. It’s rooted in Scripture, aligned with the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, and built for real life: whether you’re a student, a shift worker, a caregiver, in a tough season, or exploring faith from a distance.

Step 1: Start with God’s Word (even if it’s small)

If your faith is a daily walk, Scripture is your daily bread.

We believe the Bible is inspired and authoritative: God speaking truth that’s reliable, not just motivational. (Fundamental Truth #1)

So here’s a simple approach:

  • Read a short passage

  • Ask, “What does this show me about God?”

  • Ask, “What does this invite me to do today?”

  • Pray it back to Him (one or two sentences is enough)

If you need a structure, a “daily reading” plan can help you stay steady without feeling overwhelmed. Many people like the idea of short daily readings with weekly reflection: bite-size, consistent, and realistic.

If you want a quick refresher on how Boundless thinks about Scripture, this is a good companion read: https://www.boundlessonlinechurch.org/post/inspired-truth-the-gift-of-god-s-word

Daily prayer starter: “Jesus, open my eyes to Your truth today. Help me obey what You show me.”

Step 2: Anchor your identity in Jesus, not your mood

Walking with Jesus starts with knowing who He is.

Jesus is not just a teacher or a moral example. He is fully God, the Son of God, and the only Savior. (Fundamental Truth #2)

And salvation isn’t earned: it's received by faith. (Fundamental Truth #5)

That matters because your emotions will change. Your schedule will change. Your performance will change.

But Jesus doesn’t change.

When you wake up discouraged, your walk can still be real. When you’ve failed, repentance is still open. When you’re numb, you can still turn your face toward Him.

Try this daily confession (simple, not dramatic):

  • Jesus, You are Lord.

  • Jesus, I trust You to save me and lead me.

  • Jesus, make me more like You.

That’s a daily walk.

Step 3: Let repentance be normal (not shameful)

Sin is real. But grace is real too.

We believe humanity fell into sin and needs salvation. (Fundamental Truth #3)

And we believe Jesus’ forgiveness is not fragile. The Cross is not a “second chance” that runs out: it’s the center of our faith. (Fundamental Truth #4)

A healthy daily walk includes regular heart-checks:

  • Where am I drifting?

  • What attitudes am I feeding?

  • Who do I need to forgive?

  • What truth am I resisting?

Repentance isn’t groveling. It’s turning around.

It’s a practical “Jesus, lead me back.”

If you feel stuck in shame, here’s a short prayer you can repeat:

“Father, I confess my sin to You. Thank You for forgiving me through Jesus. Clean me, restore me, and lead me forward.”

Step 4: Practice water baptism as obedience (and a reminder)

Baptism doesn’t save you: Jesus saves you.

But water baptism is a powerful act of obedience and public identification with Christ. (Fundamental Truth #6)

In an online world, some people wonder if baptism still matters. It does. It’s a physical moment that reinforces a spiritual reality: you’ve been raised into new life with Jesus.

If you’ve never been baptized after choosing to follow Christ, that’s a simple next step worth exploring. If you have been baptized, remember what it meant:

  • the old life is not your master

  • Jesus has claimed you

  • your story has a new center

Step 5: Ask the Holy Spirit to empower your everyday life

The Christian life isn’t “try harder.” It’s Spirit-empowered.

We believe the Holy Spirit is not a concept: He is God, present and active today. (Fundamental Truth #7)

We also believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the initial physical evidence of speaking in tongues, and that this empowers believers for witness and holy living. (Fundamental Truth #8)

That’s not meant to be weird or distant. It’s meant to be practical.

If you’re tired, anxious, or spiritually dry, you can pray:

“Holy Spirit, fill me. Give me power to live like Jesus today. Help me witness with love and courage.”

And if you’re not sure what you believe about Spirit baptism, gifts, or tongues, it’s okay to ask questions. Your daily walk includes learning: not pretending.

Step 6: Expect God to work through spiritual gifts (with love and order)

God still heals. God still speaks. God still strengthens His people.

We believe divine healing is provided in Christ’s atonement. (Fundamental Truth #12)

We also believe spiritual gifts continue today and should be desired and practiced biblically. (Fundamental Truth #9)

A daily walk is not only “me trying to be good.” It’s also “God working through His people.”

That can look like:

  • praying for a friend’s pain to be healed

  • asking God for wisdom and discernment

  • encouraging someone with Scripture

  • serving faithfully behind the scenes

  • sharing Jesus with gentleness

If you’re in a situation where being public about faith is unsafe: God still sees you, strengthens you, and gives wisdom for when to speak and when to be quiet. A Spirit-led walk is not reckless; it’s faithful.

A modern family shares a quiet moment of prayer and Bible study in a sunlit room, growing in faith together.

Image idea: hands holding a Bible and a cup of coffee near a window, morning light, colorful and hopeful, no text.

Step 7: Make prayer your “walking conversation” with God

Prayer doesn’t have to be long to be real.

A daily walk means God is part of your real day:

  • the commute

  • the hospital waiting room

  • the night shift

  • the school pickup line

  • the quiet moment when everyone’s asleep

Try a simple rhythm:

  • Morning: “Lead me today.”

  • Midday: “Strengthen me right now.”

  • Evening: “Thank You. Search my heart.”

And if you’re overwhelmed, don’t upgrade your guilt: simplify your prayer:

“Jesus, help.”

That’s a real prayer.

Step 8: Stay connected to the Church (even online)

You can love Jesus alone, but you can’t follow Jesus well in isolation.

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ and God’s plan for worship, discipleship, and mission. (Fundamental Truth #10)

And we believe in the value of regular worship, fellowship, and spiritual covering: not as pressure, but as support.

If online church is your safest or most realistic option right now, you belong here. Start small:

The goal isn’t “be online more.” The goal is: stay connected to Jesus and His people.

Step 9: Live with hope: Jesus is coming back

Your daily walk is going somewhere.

We believe in the blessed hope: the soon return of Jesus Christ. (Fundamental Truth #13)

That hope doesn’t make us check out of life. It helps us stay faithful in the middle of life.

When your work is unnoticed. When your prayers feel slow. When justice feels delayed. When grief feels heavy.

Jesus is coming. And your faithfulness matters.

Step 10: Let holiness be formation, not image-management

Holiness isn’t pretending. Holiness is transformation.

We believe sanctification is an act of separation from evil and dedication to God. (Fundamental Truth #11)

So the question isn’t “How do I look to others?” It’s “What is Jesus forming in me?”

Some practical daily holiness habits:

  • limit what you feed your mind when it fuels temptation

  • choose integrity when nobody can verify it

  • make peace quickly when conflict rises

  • replace one unhealthy coping pattern with one life-giving practice

  • ask for help when addiction or despair is pressing in

Holiness is not instant. But it is real growth: step by step.

A man walks a bright trail at sunrise, representing the daily spiritual journey and growing in faith step by step.

Image idea: a person walking a bright trail through green hills, sunlight breaking through clouds, cinematic and colorful, no text.

Step 11: Remember: there is a final restoration and a real judgment

A daily walk has weight because eternity is real.

We believe there will be a final judgment for the wicked dead. (Fundamental Truth #15)

We also believe in the new heavens and new earth: the future kingdom of God where righteousness dwells. (Fundamental Truth #16)

This isn’t meant to produce panic. It’s meant to produce clarity.

  • Your life matters.

  • Your choices matter.

  • Your “yes” to Jesus matters.

And if you’re reading this and you’re not sure where you stand with God, you can talk to Him right now: no special setup required.

A simple salvation prayer (in your own words is fine):

“Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sin and rose again. Forgive me, change me, and lead me. I trust You as my Savior and Lord. Amen.”

If you prayed that sincerely, your next step is to keep walking: one step at a time.

A simple daily plan you can repeat (10–15 minutes)

If you like structure, here’s a realistic “daily walk” template:

  1. Read one short passage (or a few paragraphs)

  2. Write one sentence: “Today I learned…”

  3. Pray one honest prayer about your day

  4. Act on one small obedience step (send the message, forgive, apologize, serve, stop scrolling, share hope)

Consistency beats intensity.

Keep walking: one step is still a step

If all you have today is a whisper of faith, bring it to Jesus.

If you have big faith today, thank Him: and keep walking humbly.

If you feel like you’re behind, remember: Jesus is not rushing you. He’s leading you.
