The One True God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Trying to understand God can feel like trying to catch the ocean in a paper cup.

He is big. He is eternal. He is beyond our full comprehension.

But God doesn’t want to be a mystery that stays hidden.

He has revealed Himself to us in a very specific way.

In the Assemblies of God, we recognize this as our second fundamental truth.

We believe in the one true God.

He has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.”

He is the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind.

Most importantly, He has revealed Himself as a Trinity.

This means He is one God, existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

One God, Three Persons

If that sounds confusing, you aren’t alone.

The idea of the Trinity is one of the deepest parts of faith.

It isn’t a math problem to solve. It is a relationship to enter.

We don’t worship three different gods.

We worship one God who exists in perfect unity.

Think of it like this: the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are fully equal.

They share the same nature, the same power, and the same love.

Yet, they are distinct in how they relate to us and to each other.

God the Father: The Source of All Things

When we talk about God the Father, we are talking about the heart of the universe.

He is the One who spoke the stars into existence.

He is the Architect of your life.

The Father represents the ultimate authority and the ultimate source of love.

He is not a distant judge waiting for you to fail.

He is a loving parent waiting for you to come home.

The Father’s role is one of initiation.

He loved the world so much that He sent His Son.

He has a plan for restoration and peace.

When you feel lost, the Father is the one who gives you a sense of belonging.

He reminds you that you are not an accident.

You are a creation of the one true God.

God the Son: Jesus Christ

Jesus is how we know what God is really like.

He is the Son, the second Person of the Trinity.

Jesus didn't just start existing when He was born in a manger.

He has existed eternally with the Father.

But He stepped into our world to bridge the gap between us and God.

He is fully God and fully man.

This is the miracle of the Gospel.

Because He is man, He understands our pain, our hunger, and our struggles.

Because He is God, He has the power to forgive our sins and give us eternal life.

Jesus is our Redeemer.

He is the visible image of the invisible God.

If you want to know how God feels about you, look at Jesus.

Look at how He healed the broken. Look at how He welcomed the outcast.

God the Holy Spirit: The Presence of God

The Holy Spirit is often the member of the Trinity people understand the least.

But the Spirit is vital to your daily life.

The Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity.

He is not a "force" or a "vibe." He is a Person.

The Holy Spirit is God present with us right now.

After Jesus ascended to heaven, He promised He wouldn't leave us alone.

He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside those who follow Him.

The Spirit comforts us when we are hurting.

He guides us when we don't know which way to go.

He gives us the power to live a life that honors God.

When you feel a tug on your heart to do the right thing, that’s the Spirit.

When you feel a sudden sense of peace in a storm, that’s the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit points us back to Jesus and reminds us of the Father’s love.

The Harmony of the Trinity

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work in perfect harmony.

They are never in conflict. They are never competing for attention.

At the baptism of Jesus, we see all three present at once.

Jesus is in the water. The Holy Spirit descends like a dove. The Father speaks from heaven.

This shows us that God is relational at His very core.

Before the world was ever made, love existed between the Father, Son, and Spirit.

This is why you were created for relationship.

You were made in the image of a God who is, in His very nature, a community.

Why This Matters to You

You might wonder why these theological details matter for your Monday morning.

It matters because it tells you that God is not lonely.

He didn't create you because He was bored or needed someone to talk to.

He created you because His love was so full it had to be shared.

Because God is a Trinity, we know that relationship is the most important thing in the universe.

It also means that God understands every part of the human experience.

He understands what it means to lead (the Father).

He understands what it means to suffer and serve (the Son).

He understands what it means to be a constant, quiet presence (the Spirit).

No matter what you are going through, some part of the Godhead relates to you.
