The Return of the King: Living with Eternal Perspective

Does it ever feel like the world is spinning just a little too fast?

Between the breaking news alerts on our phones and the weight of our daily responsibilities, it’s easy to feel like we’re walking on shaky ground. Whether you are working the late shift, navigating a difficult diagnosis, or simply trying to make sense of the chaos in the world, there is a common feeling we all share: a longing for things to be made right.

We find ourselves looking at the horizon, wondering if there is a bigger story unfolding.

The good news? There is.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that history isn’t just a series of random events. It’s a story with a beginning, a middle, and a very specific, glorious conclusion. It’s the story of a King who promised to return.

The King is Coming

In literature and film, the "Return of the King" is a moment of ultimate triumph. It’s when the rightful heir takes the throne, the darkness is pushed back, and the land begins to heal.

For those of us who follow Jesus, this isn't just a plot point in a fantasy novel. It is our "Blessed Hope."

In the Assemblies of God tradition, we hold to a core truth (specifically, Truth #13) that tells us the resurrection of those who have died in Christ, together with those who are still alive, is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church.

This means that Jesus is coming back. And He’s coming back soon.

When we talk about the "Return of the King," we aren’t talking about a scary, "end-of-the-world" scenario filled with gloom. We are talking about the ultimate rescue mission. We are talking about the moment when every tear is wiped away, and justice finally rolls down like waters.

Shifting Our Perspective

So, how does this change how we live on a Tuesday afternoon?

Living with an eternal perspective doesn't mean we ignore our current reality. It means we view our current reality through a different lens.

When you look at a mountain range from a distance, the peaks look close together. It’s only when you start climbing that you realize there are valleys in between. An eternal perspective allows us to see the "peaks", God’s promises, even when we are currently walking through a deep, dark valley.

Here are a few ways an eternal perspective changes our day-to-day life:

1. It Calms Our Anxiety

When we realize that the King is in control and that His return is certain, the "global uncertainty" of our age loses some of its teeth. Yes, things are difficult. Yes, the news is heavy. But we know how the story ends. The King wins.

2. It Gives Our Suffering Purpose

For those in our community who are facing long-term illness or serving as caregivers, the days can feel endless. An eternal perspective reminds us that our "light and momentary troubles" (as the Apostle Paul called them) are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. Your hard work, your patience, and your faith in the dark are not wasted.

3. It Motivates Our Mission

If we believe the King is returning, we want to make sure as many people as possible meet Him. This is why we are so passionate about being a Content Creator and providing spaces for people to grow. We want everyone to know the peace that comes from knowing Jesus.

The Blessed Hope for the "Invisible" Ones

We know that many of you reading this might feel invisible to the rest of the world.

Maybe you’re working a security job in the middle of the night while the city sleeps. Maybe you’re a stay-at-home parent who hasn't had a "grown-up" conversation in days. Maybe you’re living in a part of the world where it isn’t safe to openly talk about your faith.

Please hear this: The King sees you.

The promise of His return isn't just for the people on a stage or the people with the loudest voices. It is for you. In fact, Jesus often went out of His way to remind the "hidden" people that they were the first in His Kingdom.

Living with an eternal perspective means knowing that your worth isn't tied to your productivity or your social status. Your worth is tied to the fact that you are a citizen of a Kingdom that will never end.

Practical Steps for an Eternal View

How do we keep our eyes on the horizon when the "now" is so demanding?

  • Start with the Word: It’s hard to have a Kingdom perspective if we aren't familiar with the King’s words. Join a Bible Study Club to dive deeper into these promises with others.

  • Connect with Community: We weren't meant to wait alone. Whether it's through our Bible Study for Men or other groups, find people who can remind you of the truth when you’re feeling weary.

  • Pray with Purpose: Instead of just praying for your problems to go away, try praying for God’s perspective on those problems. Ask Him to help you see your life the way He sees it.

Questions to Consider

We love hearing from you and walking alongside you in this journey. As you think about the Return of the King this week, consider these questions:

  • What is one area of your life where you feel the most "uncertainty" right now?

  • How would knowing that Jesus could return at any moment change your attitude toward that situation?

  • Who in your life needs to hear the "Blessed Hope" of Christ today?

The return of Jesus isn't just a theological concept to be studied; it's a reality to be lived. It's the "calm power" that keeps us steady when the world is shaking.

If you’re new here and trying to figure out what this all means, we invite you to check out our I'm New Q&A Welcome Center. We’d love to meet you and help you navigate these big questions.

A Final Thought

As the sun sets today, imagine those mountains silhouetted against a golden sky. The beauty of creation is just a shadow of the beauty that is coming.

The King is returning. Let’s live like we believe it.
