Who Is Jesus? Why the Deity of Christ Changes Everyday Life

The question seems simple.
Who is Jesus?
But your answer to that question changes everything: how you pray, how you face Monday mornings, how you handle fear, and what you believe is possible when life feels impossible.
At Boundless Online Church, we stand with the Assemblies of God in teaching that Jesus is fully God and fully human. Not just a good teacher. Not just a prophet. Not even just the best person who ever lived.
Jesus is God in the flesh.
And that truth? It rewrites your entire week.
What the Assemblies of God Teaches About Jesus
The Assemblies of God's 16 Fundamental Truths include two core beliefs that anchor everything we do:
#2: The One True God (Trinity) We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
#3: The Deity of Jesus Christ We believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God: fully divine, co-equal with the Father. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven. He is seated at the right hand of the Father and will return for His Church.

This isn't abstract theology.
It's the foundation of your hope, your identity, and your prayers.
Here's what it means practically:
Jesus Has the Authority to Forgive You
Because Jesus is God, He doesn't just ask God to forgive you. He does forgive you.
When you come to Him in prayer: broken, ashamed, or stuck: you're not approaching a middleman. You're coming to the One with absolute authority to speak peace over your past.
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace." (Ephesians 1:7)
When Jesus says, "Your sins are forgiven," it's final. Done. Real.
Jesus Understands What You're Going Through
Because Jesus became human, He walked this earth. He felt hunger, exhaustion, rejection, and grief.
He knows what it's like to work hard and not see results. He knows what it's like to lose someone you love. He knows what it's like when people misunderstand you.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are: yet he did not sin." (Hebrews 4:15)
You're never praying to someone who can't relate.

Jesus Has the Power to Change Your Circumstances
Because Jesus is God, He has authority over sickness, chaos, fear, and death itself.
He didn't just hope the storm would calm down. He told it to stop: and it did.
He didn't just wish Lazarus would wake up. He called him out of the tomb: and he did.
When you pray to Jesus, you're praying to the One who holds all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).
That doesn't mean He'll do everything the way you expect. But it does mean nothing is impossible for Him.
Why This Changes Your Everyday Life
So what does it look like to live like Jesus is God?
It changes how you start your day.
How you face your boss. How you respond when your kid is sick. How you handle that impossible conversation.
Here are three shifts that happen when the deity of Christ moves from your head to your heart:
1. You Pray With Confidence (Not Just Hope)
When you know Jesus is God, prayer isn't crossing your fingers and hoping someone's listening.
It's walking into the throne room of the universe and speaking directly to the King who loves you, knows you, and has the power to act.
You don't have to wonder if He hears you. You don't have to wonder if He cares.
He does. Always.
"Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)

2. You Stop Living Like You Have to Earn God's Approval
When you believe Jesus is God: and that He died in your place: you stop trying to perform your way into God's love.
You're already loved. You're already chosen. You're already His.
That doesn't make you lazy. It makes you free.
Free to serve out of gratitude, not guilt. Free to rest without shame. Free to mess up and still be called "beloved."
As Dr. Layne McDonald often reminds us: "When you know who Jesus is, you stop striving and start resting in what He's already done."
3. You Face Hard Days Differently
When life gets heavy: and it will: you're not just gritting your teeth and hoping for the best.
You're leaning on the One who conquered death. You're trusting the One who holds tomorrow. You're resting in the One who never leaves.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
Jesus didn't promise easy. But He promised presence.
And when Jesus is God, His presence changes everything.
Living This Out: Your Next Steps
So where do you start?
Here are three simple, practical next steps:
1. Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you.
Pray something like: "Jesus, I want to know You more. Show me who You really are. Help me trust You more fully."
2. Read the Gospel of John.
It's written specifically to help people understand who Jesus is. Start with chapter 1. Read it slowly. Let it sink in.
3. Connect with a community that teaches the truth about Jesus.
