Who Is Jesus? An Assemblies of God Guide to the Deity of Christ (Hope for Real Life)

HOLD FOR REVIEW — DO NOT PUBLISH Status: DRAFT (no schedule)

It's Monday morning. Your alarm goes off. You're already calculating how you'll make it through the week.

And somewhere in the back of your mind, a question surfaces:

Does Jesus actually get what I'm dealing with?

That question matters more than you might think. Because who Jesus is, really is, shapes everything about how we face Mondays, mistakes, and the messy middle of life.

At Boundless Online Church, we hold to Assemblies of God teaching. And one of our core beliefs (Fundamental Truth #3) is this:

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human.

Not partly. Not mostly. Fully both.

That's not just theology. That's hope.

Let's break it down.

What the Assemblies of God Teaches About Jesus

The Assemblies of God affirms that Jesus is the eternal Son of God, God Himself, wrapped in human flesh. He's not a created being. He's not an angel who got promoted. He is Immanuel, which literally means "God with us."

Here's what that includes:

Jesus Has the Attributes of God

He's eternal. He never had a beginning. He won't have an end.

He's unchanging. The Jesus who met the woman at the well is the same Jesus who meets you in your kitchen at 6 a.m.

He possesses the full nature of God, not a fraction, not a reflection. The real thing.

Jesus Holds the Offices of Deity

Scripture shows us that Jesus is the Creator. Everything that exists, galaxies, oceans, your heartbeat, came through Him (John 1:3).

He's also the Sustainer. Right now, He's holding the universe together (Colossians 1:17). Including your life. Including this moment.

Jesus Exercises the Prerogatives of Deity

He forgives sins. Not as a middleman, but as the One offended by sin in the first place.

He will carry out all judgment. One day, He will set everything right.

He is worthy of worship, because only God should be worshiped, and Jesus is God.

Jesus Became Fully Human

This is where it gets personal.

Jesus was born of a virgin. He lived a real human life. He got tired. He got hungry. He felt what you feel.

And here's the stunning part: He was tempted in every way you are, yet He never sinned (Hebrews 4:15).

That makes Him the perfect sacrifice. The only One qualified to pay for our sins.

Jesus Died, Rose, and Ascended

Jesus accomplished a substitutionary, atoning death on the cross. That's church language for: He took your place. He absorbed the punishment you and I deserved.

Three days later, He walked out of the tomb, bodily resurrected. Not a ghost. Not a memory. Alive.

He then ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He is exalted as Lord and intercedes for us right now (Romans 8:34).

Why This Matters on a Tuesday Morning (or Any Day)

You might be thinking, Okay, cool. But what does this have to do with my actual life?

Everything.

Because Jesus Is Fully God, He Has the Power to Save You

You're not putting your faith in a good teacher or a moral example. You're trusting the Creator of the universe.

That means when Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6), He's not being exclusive: He's being accurate.

There's no other path. But here's the good news: the path is open. To you. Right now.

The Assemblies of God teaches that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. You can't earn it. You can't buy it. You receive it.

Repent. Believe. Follow.

That's the invitation.

Because Jesus Is Fully Human, He Understands Your Struggle

You're not praying to a distant deity who doesn't get it.

You're praying to someone who knows what it's like to be misunderstood, exhausted, and tempted to give up.

Hebrews 4:15–16 says it like this:

"We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are: yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Jesus isn't judging you from a distance. He's with you in the mess. And He's inviting you to come boldly: not shamefully: to ask for help.

How This Shapes the Way We Live

At Boundless Online Church, we don't just teach doctrine. We try to live it out.

Here's what believing in the deity of Christ does in real time:

It Anchors Your Identity

You are not defined by your productivity, your paycheck, or your past mistakes.

You are loved by the God of the universe who became flesh to rescue you.

That's who you are. Let that sink in.

It Fuels Your Worship

When you realize Jesus is God: fully, completely, eternally: worship isn't a chore. It's a response.

You're not trying to impress Him. You're overwhelmed by who He is.

At Boundless Online Church, we gather (online and in person) not out of obligation, but out of gratitude. Because Jesus is worth it.

It Gives You Confidence in Prayer

You're not shouting into the void. You're talking to someone who hears, understands, and has the power to act.

Jesus isn't limited by your circumstances. He created the laws of physics. He can work within them: or outside them: as He sees fit.

So pray boldly. Ask for help. Trust Him with your real needs.

It Changes How You Face Suffering

The Assemblies of God believes in divine healing (Fundamental Truth #12). We pray for healing. We've seen God move in miraculous ways.

But we also recognize that we live in a broken world: and sometimes, healing doesn't come the way we expect.

Jesus doesn't promise to remove every hardship. But He does promise to be with you in it.

And because He suffered, died, and rose again, we know that suffering isn't the end of the story. Resurrection is.

What Do You Do With This?

So who is Jesus?

He's God. He's human. He's the Creator, Savior, and Sustainer of all things.

And He's inviting you into relationship with Him.

Not someday. Not when you get your act together.

Today.

Here's what that looks like practically:

1. Acknowledge Who He Is

Say it out loud: "Jesus, You are God. You are Lord. I believe You died for me and rose again."

That's not magic. It's surrender. And it's the starting point.

2. Confess Your Need

Tell Him you need Him. Be honest about where you're stuck, where you've failed, where you're afraid.

He already knows. But He wants to hear it from you.

3. Receive His Grace

Salvation is a gift. You can't earn it. Just receive it.

The Assemblies of God teaches that when you put your faith in Jesus, you are saved by grace. Forgiven. Made new.

4. Follow Him

This isn't a one-time decision. It's a daily commitment.

Wake up. Ask Him what He wants you to do today. Read His Word. Pray. Connect with other believers.

At Boundless Online Church, we're serious about helping people take next steps. Whether that's water baptism, serving, joining a small group, or just asking questions: there's room for you here.

Final thought:

Jesus isn't just a doctrine to believe. He's a person to know.

And He's already reaching toward you.

The question isn't whether He's willing.

The question is: Are you ready?
