Have you ever felt like you were drowning in a sea of opinions?
We live in a world where everyone has a "truth." You scroll through your feed and see a thousand different voices telling you how to live, what to believe, and what is right or wrong. It can get exhausting. If you are a shift worker getting off a long night at 3:00 AM, or a caregiver sitting in a quiet hospital room, you know how much you need something solid to hold onto.
You need an anchor.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that anchor is the Bible. But we don’t just believe it’s a "good book" or a collection of wise sayings. We believe it is the inspired Word of God. This isn't just a side note for us; it is Truth #1 of our 16 Fundamental Truths.
Let’s take a deep dive into what we mean when we talk about the "Inspiration of Scripture" and why it matters for your life today.
What Does "Inspired" Actually Mean?
When we use the word "inspired" today, we usually mean something that makes us feel good. A sunset is inspired. A great song is inspired. A motivational speaker is inspired.
But when we talk about the Bible, we are using a much heavier, more powerful definition.
The Assemblies of God teaches that the Scriptures: both the Old and New Testaments: are "verbally inspired of God." The Greek word used in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) is theopneustos. It literally translates to "God-breathed."
Think about that for a second. Every word on those pages isn't just the result of a human author having a "lightbulb moment." It is the breath of God captured in written form.

Not Just a History Book
Some people look at the Bible as a historical record. Others see it as a beautiful piece of ancient literature. While it is both of those things, it is also much more.
Because the Bible is inspired by God, it is our "infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct."
In plain English? That means the Bible is our ultimate GPS.
When you aren’t sure how to handle a difficult person at work, you look to the Word. When you are struggling with a health diagnosis and don't know where to find hope, you look to the Word. When you are making big decisions about your family or your future, you look to the Word.
We trust it because it doesn’t come from a human source that can fail. It comes from a God who knows the end from the beginning.
How Did God Do It?
You might wonder, "If God wrote it, why does it look like different people wrote it?"
This is the beautiful part of how God works. He didn't turn the authors into robots. He didn't put them in a trance and move their hands across the parchment. Instead, the Holy Spirit "moved" upon men.
The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:21 that "men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
God used the personalities, the vocabularies, and even the life experiences of the writers. But He guided them so perfectly that the final result was exactly what He wanted to say: without error.
Whether it was David writing a song in a cave, Paul writing a letter from a prison cell, or Moses writing the law in the desert, God was the primary Author. This is why the Bible is so consistent. Even though it was written over 1,500 years by about 40 different authors from all walks of life, it tells one single, cohesive story: God’s plan to redeem humanity.
Why We Can Trust the Bible Today
If you are a seeker or someone who has been away from church for a while, you might have questions. "Can we really trust a book this old?" or "Hasn't it been changed over the years?"
These are great questions. At Boundless Online Church, we love questions!
The reliability of the Bible is backed up by more evidence than any other ancient book in history. From the thousands of manuscript copies to the discoveries in archaeology that confirm biblical accounts, the evidence is overwhelming.
But even more than the historical evidence is the personal evidence.
When you read the Bible, it reads you. Have you ever opened it and felt like a verse was written exactly for what you were going through that very hour? That isn't a coincidence. That is the "God-breathed" nature of Scripture at work. It is alive and active.

A Rule for Faith and Conduct
Truth #1 isn't just about what we believe in our heads; it’s about how we live our lives.
The Bible declares God’s design and plan for mankind. It tells us where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going. Without the Bible, we are just guessing. With it, we have a foundation that never shakes.
For those of us living in "the real world": the world of late-night shifts, chronic pain, or living in places where it might not even be safe to go to a physical church building: the Bible is our direct line to God's heart. You don't need a middleman. You don't need a special degree. You just need to open the Word.
Applying the Truth
How do we actually put this "Inspiration of Scripture" into practice?
Read it with Expectation: If you believe these are the literal words of God, you won't read it like a textbook. You'll read it like a letter from someone who loves you.
Submit to its Authority: There will be times when the Bible says something that challenges our culture or our personal feelings. Because it is inspired by God, we choose to follow His wisdom over our own.
Use it as a Filter: Every podcast you hear, every book you read, and every "truth" you see on social media should be filtered through the Bible. If it doesn't line up with God's Word, we don't have to carry it.
Share its Hope: For our friends in persecuted areas or those feeling isolated, the Bible is a source of strength that no one can take away from you.
Your Next Steps
The Bible is God’s gift to you. It is His voice in written form, meant to guide you, comfort you, and show you the way to Jesus.
If you’ve never really spent time in the Word, a great place to start is the Gospel of John in the New Testament. It shows us the heart of Jesus so clearly.
Do you have questions about the Bible? Are you struggling to believe that it’s really God's Word? We would love to chat with you about it. We are a welcoming community and we believe that growing in faith is a journey we take together.
You can also join us for our Sunday Night Bible Study or check out our Live Worship to hear the Word taught and applied to everyday life.
No matter where you are in the world: or where you are in your faith: God’s Word is for you. It is inspired, it is true, and it is the foundation you can build your life on.
