AG Truth Deep Dive: The Salvation of Man

Welcome back to our journey through the 16 Fundamental Truths! If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve already explored the authority of the Bible and the nature of God. Today, we are stepping into what I like to call the "Heart of the Matter."

We’re talking about Truth #4: The Salvation of Man.

If you’ve ever felt like you were running on empty, or like there was a distance between you and God that you just couldn't bridge, this post is for you. Salvation isn't just a "churchy" word. It’s a rescue mission. It’s the ultimate story of a God who refused to leave us where we were.

Let’s dive into the joy of being found.

The Need for a Rescue

Before we can truly celebrate the solution, we have to understand the situation. In our previous deep dive on the Fall of Man, we looked at how sin entered the picture. It wasn't just a mistake or a "bad day": it was a fundamental break in our relationship with our Creator.

Sin brought about spiritual death, which is essentially separation from God. Because God is holy and life-giving, being separated from Him means we are, quite literally, spiritually lost.

But here is the good news: God didn't look at our mess and walk away. He looked at our mess and moved toward us.

Salvation is the process of being redeemed: bought back: from that state of separation. It is the restoration of everything that was broken in Eden. And the best part? It’s a gift. You don’t have to work 80 hours a week to earn it. You don’t have to be "perfect enough" to qualify for it.

The Foundation: The Shed Blood of Jesus

In the Assemblies of God doctrine, we believe that "Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God."

Why blood? That can sound a bit intense if you’re new to faith. But throughout the Bible, blood represents life. Jesus gave His life so that we could have ours back. On the cross, a "Great Exchange" happened. He took our sin, our shame, and our separation, and in return, He offered us His righteousness and His relationship with the Father.

This redemption is complete. It doesn't just cover up our past; it washes it away. When we talk about the salvation of man, we are talking about a total transformation.

How Do We Receive It?

This is where it gets practical. How does this rescue mission actually reach your life? The AG teaches that there are two primary "conditions" for salvation. They aren't hoops to jump through; they are the two sides of the same coin of responding to God’s love.

1. Repentance Toward God

Repentance is a word that sometimes gets a bad rap, but it’s actually a beautiful thing. It’s not just saying "I’m sorry." It’s a change of mind and direction. It’s like realization hitting you that you’ve been driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Repentance is pulling over, doing a U-turn, and heading toward God. It’s acknowledging that our way wasn’t working and that we need Him.

2. Faith Toward the Lord Jesus Christ

Faith is simply trust. It’s the act of leaning your whole weight on Jesus. You believe that He is who He says He is and that His sacrifice was enough to save you. It’s not about having "perfect" faith or "big" faith; it’s about having faith in a big God.

When we combine repentance (turning away from sin) and faith (turning toward Jesus), something miraculous happens. The Bible calls it "the washing of regeneration." You are, quite literally, made new.

The Inward and Outward Evidence

How do you know it’s "real"? This is a question people ask all the time. Sometimes we don’t "feel" saved, or we have a bad day and wonder if it all still counts. The AG doctrine points to two types of evidence:

The Inward Evidence: This is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit. It’s that quiet, steady inner confidence that you belong to God. It’s the "still, small voice" that comforts you and reminds you that you are His child.

The Outward Evidence: This is where the world sees the change. If you’ve truly been changed on the inside, it eventually shows up on the outside. This doesn't mean you become a robot who never makes a mistake. It means your desires change. You start to value what God values. You want to live a life of righteousness and true holiness.

As we often say here at Boundless, we help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. That growth is the outward evidence of the salvation happening in your heart.

The First Step of Obedience: Water Baptism

Once someone has accepted this gift of salvation, the very next thing we encourage is water baptism.

In the AG tradition, we practice baptism by immersion. This is a powerful, public declaration of what has already happened inside you. When you go under the water, it symbolizes dying to your old self. When you come up out of the water, it symbolizes being raised to walk in a brand-new life.

It’s an outward sign of an inward grace. It’s like a wedding ring: it doesn't make you married, but it tells the whole world that you are committed and that your life has changed.

Why This Matters for You Today

We know that many of you reading this are in unique situations.

Maybe you’re a shift worker reading this on a break at 3:00 AM, wondering if God sees you in the quiet of the night. He does. Salvation is for the night-watchman just as much as the Sunday morning regular.

Maybe you’re a caregiver or someone who is homebound, feeling isolated from a physical church building. Remember, salvation isn't about a building; it’s about a person: Jesus. You can experience the "renewing of the Holy Spirit" right where you are, in your living room or at a hospital bedside.

Maybe you’re in an unsafe area where following Jesus feels risky. The salvation of man provides an anchor for your soul that no circumstance can take away. You become an "heir of God," which means you have an inheritance that is secure, no matter what happens on earth.

Justified by Grace

One of the most joyful words in this whole study is "Justified."

To be justified means to be declared righteous. A common way people explain it is "Just-as-if-I’d" never sinned. Because of Jesus, when the Father looks at you, He doesn't see your list of failures. He sees the perfection of His Son.

That is the power of grace. It’s favor we didn't earn, and it’s a standing we can't lose as long as we keep our faith in Him.

Taking the Next Step

Does this resonate with you? Maybe you’ve realized today that you’ve been trying to "save yourself" through good works or just trying to be a "decent person."

The invitation is open. You can turn toward God right now. You can trust Jesus today. There’s no complicated ritual: just a heart that says, "Lord, I need You. I believe You died for me. Make me new."
