Bible Studies : How to Study the Bible with a Busy Schedule?

Jul 9
5 min read

You can study the Bible effectively even with a packed schedule by shifting your focus from "how long" you read to "how consistently" you engage, using short 10-to-15-minute sessions, redeeming travel time with audio Bibles, and utilizing digital tools like Boundless Daily to keep the Word accessible. By prioritizing quality over quantity and integrating Scripture into your existing routines, you can maintain a deep, vibrant connection with God regardless of your calendar.

Living a fast-paced life often makes us feel like our spiritual growth is on the back burner. We see images of people spending hours in quiet meditation and think, "I could never do that." But here is the good news: God isn't looking for a perfect performance or a marathon session. He is looking for a heart that is open to Him.

At Boundless Online Church, faith isn't about finding more time; it’s about making the time we have count.

The Myth of the "Perfect Hour"

Many of us fall into the trap of thinking that if we can’t spend a full hour in deep study with three different commentaries and a Greek lexicon, it doesn’t count. We wait for a "quiet season" that never actually arrives.

The reality of modern life: especially for parents, professionals, and students: is that quiet seasons are rare. If we wait for the perfect conditions to study the Bible, we might never open it at all.

Protestant tradition emphasizes the "priesthood of all believers," which means the Word of God is accessible to you right where you are. You don’t need a cathedral or a library to meet with Jesus. You just need a willing spirit and a few intentional minutes.

The 15-Minute Daily Framework

If you have 15 minutes, you have enough time to deeply encounter God’s Word. Instead of aimlessly flipping pages, try this structured approach to maximize your time:

  • Minutes 1-2: Center Yourself. Start with a simple prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to quiet your mind and speak to your heart.

  • Minutes 3-8: Read and Observe. Choose a short passage: maybe 5 to 10 verses. Read them slowly. Read them twice. Look for a word or phrase that jumps out at you.

  • Minutes 9-12: Reflect and Journal. Write down one thought. What is God saying about His character? Is there a command to follow or a promise to hold onto?

  • Minutes 13-15: Pray the Scripture. Use the verses you just read as the basis for your closing prayer.

By following this rhythm, you move from "reading for information" to "reading for transformation." It’s not about how many chapters you check off a list; it’s about letting the truth of one verse sink into your soul.

Redeeming "Dead Time" with Audio and Tech

One of the greatest gifts of modern technology is that we can carry the Bible with us everywhere. We believe in using these tools to build a Boundless faith that isn't limited by location.

Think about your "dead time": the moments spent commuting, doing laundry, or waiting in line at the grocery store. These are prime opportunities to saturate your mind with Scripture.

  • Audio Bibles: Use apps like Dwell or the YouVersion audio feature. Listening to the Word allows you to engage while your hands are busy.

  • Bible Podcasts: Resources like The Bible Recap or The Bible Project can give you context and overview while you’re at the gym or driving to work.

  • Digital Bible resources: Our online content is designed to be easy to access. Whether you are looking for faith and discipleship tips or a quick Bible study highlight, these can fit into the small windows of your day.

The PEACE Method for Busy People

When you do have a few extra minutes to sit down, having a method helps prevent the "what should I read today?" panic. The PEACE method is a great way to stay focused:

  • P – Promise: Is there a promise from God in this text?

  • E – Example: Is there an example to follow (or avoid)?

  • A – Attitude: Is there an attitude I need to adopt or change?

  • C – Command: Is there a specific command Jesus is giving me?

  • E – Enlargement: How does this passage enlarge my view of who God is?

Using a simple acronym like this keeps your study time focused and practical. It helps you walk away from your Bible not just with head knowledge, but with a clear step for your day.

Quality Over Quantity: The Power of One

If you are in a particularly demanding season of life: perhaps caring for a newborn or managing a major project at work: try the "Power of One" approach.

Instead of trying to read through the whole Bible in a year, spend an entire week on one single chapter. Read Romans 8 every day for seven days. By the third or fourth day, you’ll start noticing details you missed before. By the seventh day, those truths will be written on your heart.

Consistency matters more than marathon sessions. A 10-minute daily habit will grow your faith much faster than a three-hour session once a month. The goal is a relationship, and relationships are built on daily connection.

Involving the Whole Family

For many of us, our busy schedules are tied to our families. Why not integrate Bible study into the family rhythm?

Using family resources or Bible time for kids allows you to grow together. You can listen to an audio Bible during breakfast or discuss a single verse over dinner. This takes the "work" out of finding time and makes faith a natural part of your household's "calm power."

If you are looking for ways to better use technology to facilitate this, our church tech section offers guidance on staying safe and effective in the digital age.

Finding Accountability Online

It is much harder to stay consistent when you are doing it alone. This is why church life and community are so vital.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. This means you can find a group or a partner to check in with, even if you can’t make it to a physical building on Wednesday nights. Digital accountability through a quick text or an online group can be the anchor that keeps you in the Word when life gets chaotic.

Give Yourself Grace

Finally, remember that Bible study is a means of grace, not a chore to be completed. There will be days when the alarm doesn't go off, the kids are sick, or the boss calls early. On those days, don't let guilt keep you away from God.

If you miss a day, just start again the next morning. God's mercies are new every morning, and His Word is always waiting for you.

We invite you to explore resources at Boundless Online Church to find a rhythm that works for you. There is a place for you here.

How have you found time for the Word lately? Do you have a favorite app or a specific time of day that works best? We would love to hear your thoughts and questions. Staying connected to the vine is the most important thing we can do, no matter how busy the branches get.
