Jesus really is the Alpha and the Omega because Scripture reveals Him as fully God, eternally present, and Lord over all creation. He did not begin in Bethlehem. Jesus is the eternal Son, the great I AM, and the One who stands at both the beginning and the end of all things.
John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” That verse does not leave room for Jesus to be merely a teacher, prophet, or created being. He is God the Son, present before creation and active in creation. When you read the Gospels, you are not just learning about a good man. You are seeing the heart of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
In John 8:58, Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” He was not simply saying He existed earlier than Abraham. He was identifying Himself with the divine name revealed in Exodus. That is why His listeners understood the weight of His words. Jesus was declaring His eternal nature. For anyone who feels unstable, confused, or spiritually shaky, this matters deeply. Our Savior is not temporary. He is the unchanging I AM.
Colossians 1:15-20 shows the greatness of Christ with breathtaking clarity. Jesus is “the image of the invisible God,” and “by him all things were created.” The passage also says that in Him “all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.” Jesus is not part of creation. He is Lord over it. He made it, sustains it, and holds it together. That means your life is not floating without meaning. The One who created all things is still present, powerful, and involved.
Revelation gives us the Alpha and Omega language directly. Revelation 1:8 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega... who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Then Revelation 22:13 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Alpha is the first letter, and Omega is the last. Jesus is declaring that He is before all things and above all things. He is the beginning and the end, the source and the goal, the One who holds history and the One who holds you.
This is not just doctrine for a classroom. It is hope for real life. If Jesus is truly God, then His promises are strong enough for your grief, your questions, your fear, and your future. He is not limited. He is not learning. He is not guessing. He is the Alpha and the Omega, and that means you can trust Him with the unfinished parts of your story.
Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing Yourself as the eternal Son of God. Thank You that You are the Word, the great I AM, and the Alpha and the Omega. Help us trust You more deeply, worship You more fully, and rest in Your power and presence today. Amen.
