Have you ever felt like you were trying to put together a massive puzzle without looking at the picture on the box? Life can feel a lot like that sometimes. We’re all searching for meaning, looking for solid ground, and trying to figure out how we fit into the bigger story God is writing. Whether you’re joining us from nearby or logging in from the other side of the globe, I want you to know something right now: you are never forgotten, never alone, and you are deeply loved by God. Welcome home.

Today for Thursday Thunder, we’re taking a deep dive into the bedrock of what we believe. If you’ve been hanging around Boundless for a while, you’ve probably heard us mention the 16 Fundamental Truths. These aren't just dry, dusty doctrines; they are the living, breathing foundation of an Assemblies of God perspective. They are the "map" for our journey. If you’re looking for a 16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study that actually makes sense for your daily life, you’re in the right place.

Question: What are the 16 Fundamental Truths and why should I care?

The short answer is that these truths provide the scriptural framework for everything we do. They help us understand who God is, who we are, and where this whole world is heading. In a world full of "fake news" and shifting opinions, these truths are anchored in the unchanging Word of God. They aren't meant to be a wall to keep people out, but a foundation to build a life that can withstand any storm.

Answer: The Roadmap to Our Faith

Let’s break these down. While all 16 are vital, four are what we call our "Cardinal Doctrines", the absolute essentials of our mission. Think of these as the North Star of our faith.

1. The Scripture Inspired

Everything starts with the Bible. We believe the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired by God. It’s not just a good book; it’s the infallible, authoritative rule for our faith and how we live our lives (2 Timothy 3:15-17). When you’re doing an online Bible study, this is your ultimate source of truth.

2. The One True God

God isn’t a distant force. He has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of all things, and the Redeemer of mankind. He exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19).

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God. He wasn’t just a great teacher; He is divine. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His death on the cross to pay for our sins, His bodily resurrection, and His current seat at the right hand of God (Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; Acts 2:22).

4. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression, man fell. This brought both physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 5:12-19). We have to be honest about our need for a Savior before we can truly appreciate the Good News.

5. The Salvation of Man (Cardinal Doctrine)

This is the heart of the Gospel. Salvation is found exclusively through Jesus Christ. It’s not about being "good enough" or doing enough chores for God. It’s about repenting of our sins and placing our faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, we are justified by grace through faith (John 3:16; Titus 3:5-7).

6. The Ordinances of the Church

We practice two main things: Water Baptism (immersion) as a public declaration of our faith, and Holy Communion as a remembrance of Jesus’ suffering and death (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:26).

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Cardinal Doctrine)

We believe all believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. It brings power for life and service (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4, 8).

8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4).

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a process of becoming more like Jesus every day, through the power of the Spirit (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 12:14).

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ, and it has a mission: to seek and save that which is lost, to be worshipped by man, and to build a body of believers in the image of His Son (Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 4:11-16).

11. The Ministry

A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the fourfold purpose of leading the Church in evangelization, worship, building up the body, and meeting human needs with love and compassion (Mark 16:15-20; Ephesians 4:11-16).

12. Divine Healing (Cardinal Doctrine)

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16).

13. The Blessed Hope (Cardinal Doctrine)

The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the church (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13).

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years (Zechariah 14:5; Matthew 24:27; Revelation 20:1-6).

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life will be consigned to everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:11-15).

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

"We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness" (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21, 22).

And for your digital walk, we can’t recommend Bark and Covenant Eyes enough for accountability. Your spiritual growth depends on the environment you create for yourself.

Whether you're struggling with a health diagnosis and need to stand on Truth #12 (Divine Healing), or you're feeling hopeless about the state of the world and need the comfort of Truth #13 (The Blessed Hope), these doctrines are here for you. They remind us that God is in control, that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and that the Holy Spirit is ready to empower you for whatever you’re facing today.

Wherever we live, we know what it means to be resilient. But that resilience has to be built on something stronger than just our own grit. It has to be built on the Rock. These 16 truths are that Rock.
