Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study , Day 14: The Great Commission

Welcome to Day 14 of our Global Micro-Study.

Whether you are catching this on a quick break during a night shift, sitting in a quiet hospital room, or checking your phone in a place where you have to keep your faith a secret, we are glad you are here. You are not alone. You are part of a global family that stretches across every time zone and every border.

Today, we reach a pivotal point in our journey through the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. We are looking at Truth #14: The Church and Its Mission.

In many circles, this is known as "The Great Commission." It is the final set of instructions Jesus gave to His followers before He ascended to heaven. It isn't just a suggestion for "super-Christians" or missionaries moving across the ocean. It is the heartbeat of every person who follows Jesus.

The Heart of the Mission

When we think of "church," we often think of a building with a steeple or a specific room where people gather on Sunday mornings. But the Bible describes the Church as something much more dynamic. The Church is a people on a mission.

According to our shared faith, the Church has a four-fold purpose:

  1. To be an agency for evangelizing the world.

  2. To be a corporate body where we worship God.

  3. To be a channel of God’s purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.

  4. To be a people who demonstrate God’s love and compassion for all the world.

Today, we are focusing specifically on that first point: Evangelism. This is the "Go" part of the Gospel.

What Is the Great Commission?

In Matthew 28:18–20, Jesus makes a bold declaration and gives a clear command:

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

Jesus didn't say, "Wait for the world to come to you." He said, "Go."

For some of us, "going" means traveling to another country. For most of us, "going" means stepping into our workplace, our living room, or our digital spaces with the intention of sharing the hope we have found.

As the research shows, the primary command in the original language isn't actually the word "go", it is "make disciples." The "going" is what we do as we live our lives. Whether you are a caregiver at a bedside or a traveler in an airport, you are "going." The question is: are we making disciples as we go?

Why We Share the News

You might wonder why it is so important to share our faith. Why not just keep it to ourselves?

The Apostle Paul explains the urgency in Romans 10:14–15:

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'"

There are people in your life, coworkers on the late shift, neighbors who feel invisible, family members struggling with addiction, who need to know that there is a God who loves them. They can’t believe in a Savior they haven’t heard about.

You are the messenger. You are the "beautiful feet" (even if you’re wearing work boots or hospital scrubs) bringing good news to a world that is often filled with bad news.

The Power to Witness

Sharing your faith can feel intimidating. You might worry about not having the right words or being asked a question you can’t answer.

But Jesus didn't leave us to do this on our own strength. In Acts 1:8, He promised:

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The Holy Spirit provides the courage and the words. Being a "witness" doesn't mean you have to be a professional speaker. A witness simply tells what they have seen and heard. You are just sharing your story of what Jesus has done for you.

For Those in Hard Places

We know many of you reading this are in places where sharing your faith is dangerous. Or perhaps you are homebound or disabled, feeling like your "mission field" is limited to the four walls of your room.

The Great Commission is not limited by physical ability or political borders.

  • For the Homebound: Your prayers are a powerful force in the mission of the church. Your digital presence, sending an encouraging verse to a friend or sharing a link to a worship service, is an act of evangelism.

  • For the Persecuted: Your silent endurance and the way you love your enemies is a profound witness. The light shines brightest in the darkest places.

  • For the Shift Worker: Your integrity and your peace in the middle of a stressful night shift speak volumes to those working alongside you.

An Invitation to New Life

Maybe you are reading this and you realize you haven't yet responded to the message yourself. The "mission" of the church is for you. Jesus came to seek and save you.

The Gospel is simple:

  1. Repent: Turn away from going your own way. Acknowledge that you have sinned and need God.

  2. Believe: Trust that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, and that He rose again.

  3. Receive: Accept His gift of forgiveness and a new life.

If you want to start this journey today, you can talk to God right where you are. Just say: "Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me. Please forgive my sins and lead my life. I want to follow You."

If you made that decision, we would love to help you grow. You can find resources on how to get plugged in fast and start your journey of faith.

Your Action Step for Today

If you are on a break or it’s the middle of the night, here is one simple way to live out the Great Commission right now:

The "Digital Cup of Water" Step: Think of one person you know who is going through a hard time. Send them a short text or a message. You don't have to write a sermon. Just say: "I was just thinking about you and prayed for you. Hope you're doing okay."

If they ask why, tell them you've been learning about God's love today. 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us: "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."
