Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study - Day 15: The Call to Serve

Hey there, and welcome to Day 15 of our Global Micro-Study. We are so glad you’ve carved out a few minutes of your day, or your night, to be here with us. Whether you are catching this during a quick break on a 12-hour shift, sitting in a quiet house while your family sleeps, or tuning in from a place where meeting in person isn't easy, you are part of this community. You belong here.

Today, we are diving into a topic that often gets misunderstood. When people hear the word "ministry," they usually think of a person standing behind a wooden pulpit in a suit. They think of "The Pastor" or "The Priest." But as we look at the Assemblies of God Fundamental Truth #11, we see a much bigger, much more beautiful picture.

Truth #11 is about "The Ministry." But it’s not just about a job title. It’s about a gift that Jesus gave to the whole church to make sure every single one of us is empowered to live out our purpose.

What is the Purpose of "The Ministry"?

According to the scriptures and our shared core beliefs, leadership in the church, what we call "the ministry", is divinely called and scripturally ordained. But why? Why did Jesus give us leaders? It wasn't to create a hierarchy where some people are more "spiritual" than others. It was for a fourfold purpose that involves every one of us.

Let’s break these down and see how they apply to your life, right where you are.

1. Reaching the World (Evangelism)

The first purpose of ministry is the evangelization of the world. This is a big phrase for a simple idea: sharing the good news that Jesus changes everything.

For many of our friends at Boundless Online Church, you might be the only Christian in your workplace, your family, or even your town. If you work the late shift at a warehouse or care for a loved one at home, you might wonder how you can "evangelize."

Ministry leadership exists to equip you for those moments. It’s about helping you find the words and the confidence to show Christ’s love in the ordinary rhythms of your life. When you show kindness to a difficult coworker or offer a word of hope to someone in a restricted region via a digital chat, you are fulfilling this purpose. You are the hands and feet of Jesus.

2. The Heart of Worship

The second purpose is the worship of God. We often think of worship as the music that plays on a Sunday morning live stream. And while that is a huge part of it, worship is really a lifestyle.

Ministry leaders are called to lead the church in honoring God. They help us focus our attention on Him. At Boundless, we believe that worship doesn't have a time zone. When you take a moment at 3:00 AM to pray or thank God for His goodness, that is worship. Our leaders are here to provide the resources and the encouragement to help you keep your heart positioned toward Heaven, no matter what your schedule looks like.

3. Building Up the Body (Discipleship)

The third purpose is "building a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son." That’s a fancy way of saying we are all works in progress, and we need each other to grow.

Jesus gave the church leaders, pastors, teachers, and mentors, to help us move from "new believers" to "mature followers." This is why we have things like our Bible Study Club. We don't want you to just know about God; we want you to know Him deeply.

In the digital world, this "building up" happens in small groups, through mentoring, and by learning how to apply the Word of God to our specific struggles. Whether you are dealing with chronic illness or the stress of being a caregiver, the ministry is there to give you the tools to grow stronger in your faith through those trials.

4. Meeting Human Needs with Compassion

Finally, the fourth purpose of ministry is meeting human needs with ministries of love and compassion. This is where the rubber meets the road.

Jesus was moved by compassion. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and sat with the outcasts. The ministry of the church is called to do the same. This isn't just about large-scale charity work; it’s about the person-to-person care that happens every day.

At Boundless, we see this through our real-time prayer support and our virtual communities. When someone posts on the Prayer Wall and others respond with support, that is the ministry in action. It’s about making sure no one walks alone.

Ministry is for Everyone

If you’ve ever felt like you weren't "qualified" to serve God because you don't have a degree or because your physical limitations keep you at home, please hear this: The ministry exists to empower YOU.

The goal of every leader at Boundless Online Church, including Dr. Layne McDonald, is to help you see that God has a mission for your life. You are a minister in your own right, not necessarily as a pastor, but as a servant of Christ in your unique corner of the world.

A Message of Hope: The Gospel

Perhaps you are reading this today and you feel a pull in your heart, but you haven't yet taken that first step of following Jesus.

The core of everything we believe is simple: God created you for a relationship with Him. But all of us have turned our own way. This separation is what the Bible calls sin. No matter how hard we try to be "good," we can't bridge that gap on our own.

But God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to bridge the gap for us. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our mistakes, and rose again to give us new life. He offers you a fresh start, total forgiveness, and a purpose that lasts forever.

If you want to start that journey today, it’s as simple as talking to Him. You can say something like:

"Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me for my past and help me to follow You from this day forward. I want to be part of Your family. Amen."

If you made that decision, or if you have questions about what it means to follow Jesus, we would love to hear from you. You don't have to figure this out by yourself.
